Welcome to Sinclair "Industry" Island

The Island of Metal, Soil and Hard Workers

History~

Industry Island was found by American sailors in 1781, only a few years into the lifespan of the young nation. The island, creepily, was deserted. There was no animals or native people, only many trees and a few small hills and cliffs. The island was practically useless to the American government, seeing as it was small and had no natural resources besides wood. So the government sold off the island to the son of a filthy rich plantation owner and budding politican, Lewis Sinclair. Lewis hired men to help "grow" the island. Metal was used to create artificial land and soil was put on top of it to make the land look real. In 1790 the land was finished and Lewis began to speak with the government to let the piece of land be considered a territory of America, yet mainly politically independent, which was allowed. In 1793 young rich and middle class men and women moved to the island, creating homes with them and creating stores, inns and other trade based businesses.

In 1803 factories  and apartments were beginning to be built by British and American businessmen on the island. In 1805 advertisements began springing up everywhere telling people to move to Sinclair/Industry Island, promising fair wages, a home and something close to equality. White women were attracted to the idea of being able to vote on local elections. Black people and Native Americans, though not as huge of a population as white women, were also attracted by the possibility of voting, no worries about slave catchers and equal schools. A boom happened after the war of 1812 in the island and factories popped up almost everywhere, and of course people followed. By 1820 almost five thousand people lived on the island. The island was even expanded on all sides using metal and apartments built continuously to sustain the people.

However during this time many lower class white women were being raped in the island, causing problems between the lower class women on the island. Some wanted to leave but didn’t want to leave the “equality” given to them on the island. However after the rape of 5 young girls on the island and the murder of one of them in 1824, many lower class white women with no nuclear families on the island ended up leaving in droves.

Because of this factory owners forced anybody left or coming on the island, including blacks and Native Americans, to sign a contract forcing them to stay on the island at least another 10 years. Advertisements by factory owners were also pushed continuously in places with large free black populations and even around slave populations. Many slaves even ran away to get on boats coming to the island just because checks for runaway slaves is banned in the island.

Still, just because equality is promised to the non-white population doesn’t mean the receive it, especially from the white people around them. Racism runs rampant and many white people hurt, rape and kill the non-white population just because they are thriving in the island. Even small prejudice such as vandalism and not allowing them to come into certain places or join certain groups happens constantly. Still the island and the people on the island continue to thrive, regardless of the assholes who make things worse.

Quarters~

Bellevue- Where the rich people stay, also were the town/city square is. This where the actual land is and a well known hill resides in the island. Smallest quarter.

Gaston- Supposedly always so foggy and gassy so everyone calls it Gaston. Where the factories and the lower class stay. Largest quarter.

Seaview- The north of the island, which is farthest away from actual land and closest to the water. Where most of the stores and everybody who works at the stores work and live. Medium sized quarter.
