Species Changes

Posted 2 years, 1 month ago by Tapinix

Hey, guys, long time no see!
I'm here to bring all world members a small update on species progress.

First of all, we've changed the species name! A popular NFT game is now using Starsharks, and we want to distance ourselves from this. The species will be called Selachiial from now on. With this name change comes the updating of our accounts, please be patient as our staff works on getting this done.
The species has changed owners a few times, however, we now have a steady owner and will be releasing updated traits and lore soon. This means we'll be getting a new generation! Gen 3 will be an improved version of the species and with it, we hope to bring in new members and get everything active again.
You can still refer to the older generations as starsharks if you wish, but we ask that you please call the new generation Selachiial.

I'll be updating the world soon as we go forward with these changes, thanks for sticking around so long!

Starshark Classes and Traits

Starsharks Classes and Traits

Introduction

Starsharks are a new closed species created and owned by irisky. Although they can have canine, feline, and even rabbit-like features, Starsharks are not of this world and are certainly not mammals, as fuzzy as they sometimes appear. They are mysterious creatures made of a substance unknown to human science called "magika." This substance powers their bodies and sustains them throughout their life, replenished through foods and liquids the species consumes. Starsharks live outside of space and time, nudging Universal events so they align the way that they're supposed to. Even so, they're still a species, animals that can have flaws, thoughts, and feelings.

Classes

Classes are certain categories of work that Starshark pups are sorted into once they get old enough. Pups spend much of their childhood figuring out who they want to be and what they want to do, which they then get to choose during the Class Ceremony. The Class Ceremony is a magical festival, during which pups undergo slight physical changes to be shaped for the class that they chose. High Guardians are the only class that cannot be chosen during this ceremony—in fact, the High Guardians are in technicality not a class at all. They’re more like royalty; a pup is either born a High Guardian or becomes one after committing great deeds.

Guardians of Health
Take care of warrior guardian classes who have been injured in battle. Also handle the youngest Starshark pups.
Guardians of Youth
Protect and nurture children. Starsharks are raised communally, although they do grow up knowing their parents. In charge of teaching pups and helping them decide which class they want to choose.
Guardians of Knowledge
Keepers of the histories and literature of the species. Work in the Biblioteka, a massive library. Usually don't have children.
Guardians of Time
One of two classes with claws gained after the induction ritual. A warrior class tasked with protecting the timeline. Fixes anomalies in the timeline that could be catastrophic to the whole.
Guardians of Space
One of two classes with claws gained after the induction ritual. A warrior class tasked with protecting space. Fight against multidimensional beings seeking to destroy the universe, as well as physical phenomena like giant black holes or supernovas that put intelligent life in danger.
High Guardians
Only class that you either have to be born into or win through great deeds. If you haven't been born into this class, you can enter it via a complex ritual to increase the intensity and clarity of your magical makeup. Only class that Starfish are born into.

Culture

Starsharks centralize in an extradimensional world called The Hub. This is where they make their home, as well as where they raise their young and store knowledge and resources.
Music is highly important to Starshark culture! There's nothing they like more than listening to the music of the stars.
Class roles aren't strict. Parents who aren't guardians of youth can still see and care for their children when they're not taking care of their responsibilities.
High Guardians are leaders and ambassadors, but are no more powerful than any of the other classes. In fact, guardians of time and space are actually more powerful but much less rare.
Starsharks are NOT immortal. They live and die like all other organisms.

Appearance

Starsharks are an anthro species. Traits vary across classes and each class has its own rarity. Scroll down to see the main Starsharks examples and check out the classes tab for class specific examples.

Magika
All Starsharks have exposed bits of their magical makeup. Every Starshark's tail, horns, and pawpads are made of this substance. Some Starsharks have patches of exposed magic across their body; the more magic, the rarer the Starshark. Magika can be any colour and wil gradient between different tones and other similar colors. Gradients between vastly different colours are a rare trait, see the trait guide for more information.

Claws
Only Guardians of Time and Space have claws. These claws grow after the Class Ritual, which changes how a Starshark functions to better fit their class role. No other classes of Starshark, including High Guardians, have claws.

Tails
Most Starsharks have tails that appear similar to Earthen rays, skates, and of course, sharks. However, Starsharks born into the High Guardian class can occasionally have tails that mimic species of regular fish instead of sharks. These fish are typically cartilaginous but there have been recorded cases of Starsharks with tails mimicking earthen betta fish. Starsharks with these fishtails are affectionately known as Starfish
All other classes must have a tail mimicking that of a species from the subclass Elasmobranchii.
