Rixilian Calendar*

*NOTE: This section is under a bit of revision as the elemental system has changed and information needs to be updated to match.  Sorry for the inconvenience!

Rixile has a year of 300 days split into ten 30-day months, with five six-day weeks each.  Days are 30 hours long, so despite the fewer days compared to Earth, a Rixilian year is actually longer.

  • One Earth Year = 0.974 Rixilian Years
  • One Rixilian Year = 1.0267 Earth Years
  • Your Rixilian age, as well as characters' Earth ages, can be figured out by multiplying the base age by the appropriate conversion factor above.
  • Your Rixilian birthday = ([the ordinal day your birthdate is in an Earth year] +.25)/(365.25) * 300; the result is the ordinal day your birthdate is in a Rixilian year.  Knowing each Rixilian month is 30 days, the specific month/day can be figured out from there.

Because of the long days, some Rixile communities have a tradition of sleeping two times during the night, with an awake period in between.

The months of the calendar are all themed after the pantheon and are named after their associated legendary creatures.  As a result, the calendar also doubles as a zodiac system themed after these animals.  The months are as follows:

  • 1st: Dracam (Ignus, the dragon) (Vernal equinox N/Autumnal equinox S)
  • 2nd: Testudam (Phyll, the world turtle)
  • 3rd: Tigram (Galvan, the manticore)
  • 4th: Serpenam (Nocturne, the quetzalcoatl) (Summer solstice N/Winter solstice S)
  • 5th: Equam (Terra, the centaur)
  • 6th: Lampyram (Volt, the lightning bug) (Autumnal equinox N/Vernal equinox S)
  • 7th: Aquilam (Aether, the garuda)
  • 8th: Balaenam (Mist, the sea serpent)
  • 9th: Coiotam (Sonata, the coyote) (Winter solstice N/Summer solstice S)
  • 10th: Ursam (Cryos, the yeti)

The god (and thus element) may not always seem to match up with the season; this is because the calendar takes into mind the differing seasons in both the northern and southern hemispheres, particularly where the god's territory lies.  Sonata's month marks summer for her own territory, Solennia, for example.

The volkin were actually the ones to first name the months after the gods; this is why Ignus' month is first in the calendar.  The calendar itself was developed by meks.  They are still a bit sore with the volkin over this.

Dates are formatted DD/MM/YYYY or DD/MM, and ordinal numbers are usually written when the month is written out.  So a date of 1/1/1000 could also be written 1st Dracam, 1000.  The current year in Rixilian history is 1511 AR.  AR stands for "After the Rift," which is an event that will be touched upon in the summary of Rixilian history.
