The world of Aymenia - where nature, people and gods live in harmony

Introduction

The alluring world of Aymenia was created a long, long time ago by a powerful God named Aymon, and is ruled by him with the help of his Godly assistants who each lead one of Aymenias regions. Powers from the Gods can be granted to individuals in any way they see fit, but magical powers can also be acquired by the common man through study, practice and dedication. In such a world where magic is a natural part of daily life, the majority of people in Aymenia possess some type of magical abilities - although heavily varying in strength and power.

The mystical powers of Aymon have shaped the world, and many places in Aymenia have magical powers etched into the ground and scenery. The vegetation grows in ways it shouldn’t be able to, pieces of land float without gravity and the deep forest feels a little too alive. High mountains are raised around the edges of Aymenia in almost every part of the world, and they work as a protective border. Civilization is spread out all over the world, but certain places are more ingrained in the natural environment of Aymenia than others. In these places, the levels of magic naturally found in the environment tend to be higher and the way the world looks tends to be more unnatural than in less magical places. Oddly sized trees and large amounts of flowers and wildlife are ordinary for these locations. The amount of magical powers naturally found in the environment also affect an individual's ability to wield magic of their own, which is why more peaceful locations tend to stay quite unthreatened; as most who try to wield destructive magic get restricted by the environment. A lot of people and creatures in Aymenia have animalistic or unnatural traits, such as horns, wings and unusual skin colors. These traits are also more common in the highly magical areas, and it’s not unusual that you can tell a creature's origin simply by their appearance.

Mountain Regions

The Darkreach Mountains are a mountain range which wraps around the majority of Aymenia, with its highest peaks being in the northern part of Aymenia and the mountaintops getting lower the further south you go. Although the Darkreach Mountains wrap around almost the entirety of Aymenia in varying heights, except for in Mirol, the name Darkreach Mountains tends to refer to the higher mountains in the north while the lower mountains around region edges are more often referred to as “the mountain border”. As Aymenia is a flat world, if the Darkreach Mountains protective peaks didn’t exist it would not be unusual for people to simply walk off the edges and fall into the abyss. For this reason the mountains were created - to keep the Aymenian people safe. Without a regional God nor clear region borders, the people of the Darkreach Mountains rarely live closeby more than a handful of other people, and more often than not they are people and creatures who prefer to be left alone.

At the tall peaks of the Darkreach mountains is a kingdom of snow and ice, a region known as Isakra. The region wraps around most of the highest peaks of the mountains, with many of the buildings and homes being partly made of magical snow or ice - or at the very least, built of materials of similar colors. Although Isakra is a very isolated region - being so far away from the rest of the overworld - it has come with the benefit of individuals feeling very connected to the other citizens around them. The Isakrian population is overall friendly and people are often quick to help each other, many having the united mindset that helping the people around you will ensure that you will get the same kindness back. Despite the warm first impression one easily gets of Isakra, the region has an impressive and well-trained army. Many people of the kingdom have done time within the military, most through the obvious warriors training, but some have assisted through other means, such as providing food, helping with transports, taking care of equipment and such. Having done your duty to assist the kingdom and its army in some way is expected of you by the community, and without having a severe injury or something else that’d clearly hinder you from being of help, many people would raise their eyebrow at you and question your intentions if you’d tell them you hadn’t assisted the army. Despite this, having served the Isakrian army remains a pride - a proof of sorts, that you’re a valuable member of the kingdom of Isakra.

On some of the lower mountain peaks, southeast of Isakra, is the region Mistpeak - the mountains of the dragons. Through the many decades of Mistpeaks history, a unique bond has formed between the dragons of Mistpeak and the people living there. The dragons freely roam the region without getting attacked, and are taken care of by the people there. What started as a simple alliance over time grew into something even more, a deeper connection between the creatures and certain individuals they grew particularly fond of. After many years of building trust and courage, the first dragonrider took the history of Mistpeak to the next page. As more and more dragons got used to the life in Mistpeak, they developed a sense of humanity and connection, and would let certain individuals sit atop them as they soared into the sky. The people who had continuous close interactions with the dragons began getting changes in their appearance, such as growing horns, gaining small hints of scales on a few areas of their body, having their eye color shift toward the color of their associated dragon, and getting dark patterned markings on their skin at their chest and arms, almost resembling tattoos. These changes were slow and gradual, but became a pride to the people in Mistpeak. Large horns and markings over your entire upper body was the ultimate proof of your talent as a dragonrider - as most people barely grew horns above a few centimeters, if anything at all. The people of Mistpeak live in villages of varying sizes, with simple houses and farms, and the region has quite low levels of magic. The mountains are quite plain, being too far up for grass and greens to grow yet too far down for the arctic climate of Isakra. Despite their simple and plain environment compared to much else in Aymenia, their special connection to their draconic friends is something which couldn’t compare to anything else - and in the eyes of the people of Mistpeak, it easily outweighs the living standards that come with it.

Forest Regions

The Springwoods is the biggest region in the overworld of Aymenia, and many of the smaller regions are located inside of it. It’s a highly magical place, but the type of magic is rather weak and harmless. It helps life flourish, and there isn't a more fitting place for growing crops and keeping farms. The majority of the Springwood citizens are farmers or simple mages. Either they’re people staying in the springwoods to stay away from excessive magic or they simply enjoy the atmosphere and the unique connection between civilization and wildlife. A lot of animals are found in the Springwoods, and they’re often very peaceful and friendly. They often have unique characteristics such as flowers growing on their backs, unnatural colors and patterns or wings on animals which normally don't have wings. A lot of creatures from the springwoods are hybrids between different animals, or animals and humans. These are commonly referred to as Sylvian creatures, which are unique to the Springwoods and can vary a lot in appearance and connection to humanity. A sylvian could have minimal animal features and blend in perfectly with normal human society, or they could have been raised in the wildlife completely cut off from human civilization. Humans in the Springwoods are very accepting of the Sylvian creatures and would never treat them differently from how they would treat a human, but Sylvian creatures are sometimes looked down upon by people from other regions.

Just like the creatures in the Springwoods have unnatural appearances, the forest itself has a mystical feeling. Flowers which glow in the dark, trees which have grown in twisted ways and a huge amount of water streams and waterfalls are common around here. In the deeper parts of the springwoods you will end up getting lost no matter how many times you’ve travelled through the place, it never quite looks the same - and you could swear that the large mossy rock wasn’t there last night. The forest seems to move every second your head is turned, and you sometimes wonder if the trees would answer you if you found the courage to talk to them.

Deep within this area of the Springwoods is Aymenias smallest region called Liren. Although it may seem intriguing to explore, the beautiful looks are very deceiving. As the stronghold for the sirens, it is advised to stay as far away as possible from the region. Certain individuals can however not help but to be charmed; and who can blame them, it is after all what the deceptive, demonic creatures excel at doing. With their dark twisted magic they whisper the sweetest words into your head, promising you all the things you desire the most. But at the end of the day, you will meet the same fate as every person who gets mind-controlled by a Siren - a fast but immensely painful death. Telling the region apart from the rest of the woods can be very difficult. Without any clear borders, nobody really knows how big Liren is, and people are advised to rather stay too far away than too close. If you know what you’re looking for however, there are certain details which sets the region of Liren apart from the rest of the Springwoods. The trees and grass are darker, the leaves are tight and let through minimal light, and there is an extreme amount of deep-pink azalea flowers which seem to have a faint glow. These details are very gradual and get more and more prominent the further into the region you go - which is why people struggle to notice they’ve ended up in Liren. It could just as well have been any other part of the deep woods, given that such characteristics are far from out of place in the magical forest.

On the other side of the Springwoods, against the mountainwall between Crownhawk and Nimath you will encounter another region that is just as recommended to stay away from - Deadrin, the stronghold for the deadly cult of worshippers of Itham, the God of chaos. Identified by their full-face covering masks, the members of the cult are often very powerful and dangerous. The majority of the cult's stronghold is inside of the mountain walls, stretching deep down into the mountains. The parts of Deadrin above ground are simple yet practical living areas. The lowest members of the cult live here, in tents or simple houses. Despite Deadrin technically being located within the Springwoods, the area is nothing like the rest of the forest - the constant dark magic conjured in the area, as well as remnants from the war have altered the nature in the region. The grass is dark and colorless, no flowers grow and the trees are small and thin, growing few and plain leaves. The animals of the Springwoods tend to stay away from the area, so only the humanoid cult members and their occasional pets are found in Deadrin.

Under the rule of Aymenias most present god Aluwai lives the hunters, in a big and friendly region known as Nightwatch. The region is located against the lower parts of the Darkreach Mountains, north of Mirol and at the edges of the mystical deep woods.

Species and creatures

Aymenia has a lot of different species, many based on typical fantasy creatures such as elves, fairies, satyrs and such - but there are also some more unique species. Here’s the most common species and creatures you’ll find in Aymenia!

Gods
Although far from common to actually lay your eyes upon, the gods play an important role in the world of aymenia, as well as in the day to day life for most intelligent beings living there. They are worshipped within their dedicated regions, and grant powers to the people who follow them. A god can either be created by the creator, or be an exceptional and outstanding person who gets enlightened to godhood by the creator, Aymon. Although they are also a god, their power is far above all of the other gods within Aymenia, and is more therefore more commonly referred to as the creator, as they’re seen to be in their own, higher category.

Guardians
The guardians are the right hand of the gods, with powers able to reach the levels of even other gods. A god can have no guardians, only one, or multiple of them, though it is most common that the Gods have only one. They are not able to grant powers to people in the way that gods can, as they get their powers from their gods just like a normal person would, although in a way higher level. In some regions, especially ones where the God may not be so present, the Guardian can often be seen as a vessel for their God - a way for them to keep an eye on their region without showing themselves in their true form.

Resurrected
A resurrected is most commonly created by beating Keila, the Guardian of Hellreach, in a duel after passing away. A resurrected often keeps some characteristics from their time in the Overworld, though their skin turns gray and cold, their eyes are red and they grow red horns, slowly growing longer as they stay in the overworld. Both their magical and physical power is significantly enhanced in this state compared to when they were alive - though it comes with a price. In order for a person to be able to become resurrected, they must have a clear goal they want to achieve while back in the overworld, and after completing this goal, the Resurrected will wither away and their soul will return to Hellreach.

Dragonal
The Dragonal are a species native to Mistpeak, looking human apart from horns that grow on their head, as well as tattoo-like markings that spread on their body. This is a slow and gradual change which happens when a dragonrider and their dragon form a special connection from the mutual trust that is required to ride a dragon. Technically there is no obvious line for when a person would stop being considered human and start being considered Dragonal, but most people would say that your horns need to be at least 2-3 cm before you can count yourself as one of the Dragonal. Being a Dragonal is a huge pride to the people of Mistpeak, as they are very proud of their unique connection to their dragons and becoming more draconic is the ultimate proof that your dragon has approved of you, and that you are a worthy dragonrider.
