Lore Guide

ORIGIN

It’s unknown when the first Kicharm came about- charms and fortune-bringing trinkets have existed in the world for nearly as long as humans have, so it’s likely that Kicharms have been helping out people since even the ancient times. Perhaps, in a period of misfortune, one person wished to have some relief from their troubles, and their wish was granted in the form of the very first Kicharm!

What is known is that there is a mysterious deity out there titled the Great Gacha God. It’s said to be the primordial force which supports the phenomenon of regular charms turning into Kicharms. While the Great Gacha God remains passive for most of the year, there are short periods of time when it becomes highly active, sparking the manifestation of many new Kicharms.

PURPOSE

The primary reason that Kicharms ‘manifest’, or come into existence from their charm form, is to serve the purpose that their original charm form was meant to help with-- and typically, this comes in the form of actions that physically help! A charm that was carried around to help bring fortune might become a Kicharm that helps with money-making endeavors. On the other hand, a charm that was meant to help bring luck with romance might strive to set up matchmaking scenarios!

That isn’t to say that Kicharms are wholly tied down to their ‘purpose’, of course, but it is a natural inclination that is ingrained into them. Kicharms can still have their own full personality, desires, dislikes, etc. that are unrelated to their ‘purpose’.

There are uncommon cases where a Kicharm comes to dislike the person who manifested them, and chooses to reject them instead, becoming independent. Whether this rejection is mutual or not, there is nothing that keeps a Kicharm tied to that person if the Kicharm chooses to disregard their natural inclinations.

That said, a Kicharm’s ability to exist depends on the life magic present in areas of population- whether it’s a small countryside village, or a bustling city. A Kicharm who decides to run away from civilization and live their days away from humankind may one day run out of life magic to ‘stay awake’... permanently.

Prevalence

In modern society, a Kicharm is not an exceedingly rare sight… but their population hardly makes up a sizable fraction of the world’s population, either. In history, Kicharms have been considered to be blessings from the gods, or even revered like deities in some cultures.

Nowadays, though, they’re more like lucky friends, and welcomed helpers!

SUSTAINING THEMSELVES

Kicharms do not inherently present a desire to eat, drink, sleep, etc. They are sustained with a magic force called life magic. Life magic is said to be derived from human populations, and exists naturally in places of civilization in the same way there is oxygen in the air.

Most Kicharms are able to utilize the life magic within them with ‘proper’ magic- spells, telekinesis, flight, or anything else that might come to mind. Naturally, this uses their life magic as a resource, and the more a Kicharm expends, the closer they get to using up all of their own life magic.

However, running out of life magic by using too much, by itself, is never deadly for a Kicharm. When a Kicharm reaches a near or complete ‘zero’ level of life magic, they are simply forced to return to their charm form, where they will remain in a sleeping state until they have once again absorbed enough life magic from their surroundings to ‘reawaken’ Though, if no one is there to help them out or keep their charm form safe, being stuck in this state may spell a worse fate…

On a lighter note, while Kicharms do not naturally need to eat, drink, or sleep, some may do these activities for fun! Kicharms can enjoy the taste of a good meal, or the feeling of a nice nap. Sleeping also has the benefit of being an activity where a Kicharm is ‘doing nothing’, and so some may prefer to sleep while transformed as a Kicharm instead of resting in their charm form, to regain their life magic resources.

Enchanted kicharms...?

Rarely, a Kicharm is manifested with a much higher life magic reserve than usual. These Kicharms are dubbed ‘Enchanted’ Kicharms due to several factors influenced by their high levels of life magic. There are several Kicharm traits that are unique to these powerful Enchanted Kicharms, such as a charm holder on the face, multiple links, magic links, and so on.

Enchanted Kicharms are also able to use much more magic, and perform it on a much bigger scale of strength. It’s possible that Kicharms who were worshiped as deities historically may have actually been Enchanted.

Secondarily, Enchanted Kicharms are able to remain independent of human populations for long periods of time, or even indefinitely, due to their high life magic reserves. This affords them the ability to live alone or travel the world in a solitary setting without having to worry about returning to their charm form.

This isn’t to say that Enchanted Kicharms are more likely to shun humanity, though- there are plenty of those who happily remain with the person who manifested them!
