Felix's magical, horrible, drug-filled, terrible, paranormal, no-good sophomore year.

Montgomery, Maine is a tiny town dominated by its flagship college, which has done little to relieve the economic depression it faces. If not a school for the children of oil barons and pharmaceutical executives, the firstborns groomed to inherit the family business, Montgomery College is a school for the second- or thirdborns with a knack for quoting Shakespeare and a demand for gluten-free food.

Felix Ibarra sticks out like a sore thumb among his wealthy peers. As a scholarship student who works two jobs, he never quite found his place among Montgomery's student body. Things only got worse when three of Montgomery's dormitories burnt to the ground at the end of Felix's freshman year, a kind of destruction that should have been impossible given that they were made almost entirely of stone. The source of the fire was traced directly to Felix's room, where he had been fast asleep. Now his sophomore year begins, and Felix has been branded a guilty man walking free.

Life only gets more complicated when a letter arrives from Oswald Halloran, the latest in the esteemed Halloran lineage. The Hallorans are old-money, and every single member of the family has walked Montgomery's halls since the institution's founding. Halloran House, the private residence dedicated to housing the various Halloran children as they attend Montgomery, is infamous for both its fantastical parties and utmost exclusivity, which is why Felix can't quite understand why Ozzie has invited him into Montgomery's premiere social scene and a free room. As a bonus, Ozzie claims to know exactly how the fires started.

Not only is magic real, but it thrives in Montgomery. Felix's new life in Halloran House is a dizzying parade of parties, occult rituals, and managing increasingly disturbing nightmares. Ozzie has been seeking out the magically attuned to help decipher the notes of his missing brother, Ambrose Halloran. Ambrose warned of something approaching of an apocalyptic scale with one cryptic message: WILDE JAGD.

The Hallorans of old brought something very dangerous with them to the New World, and it's starting to wake up.
