Steamghasts

An open species by Razzal

About

Steamghasts are strange, chimera-like creatures who run off of even stranger liquid as their power source. They also have a bizarre habit of replacing limbs with non-organic materials such as wood, metal, crystal, etc. Every Steamghast sports a strange symbol somewhere on their body; this symbol can glow and is believed to hold magic within. But Steamghasts do not have magic. Or, at least, that's what they insist. They prefer to pour their effort into science and other mathematical endeavors. That is what they consider real magic. And to this day no one has been able to figure out the exact meaning or cause behind their symbols. Steamghasts scientists ensure it is not magic, and yet they can't find any other explanation. It drives them nuts not to be able to explain something with science.

Appearance

Steamghasts can have a variety of fur, scales, horns, spikes, ears and such, but their base remains pretty similar.

They can have any amount of fur along their main body, aside from the head. They can also have any kind of front arms and paws. Even bird or dinosaur legs are allowed, Their back legs and nose are always non-organic, and the back legs are always peg/hoof-like. The non-organic material varies greatly and can make for some unique designs! The liquid in their chest compartment can be any liquid whatsoever. Anything from lava to water, to even space goop is fine. Some Ghasts have altered mouths and innards in order to consume the liquid they need to power themselves. (but you don't need an explanation for how they get their power source, it's just for fun)

Origin

Steamghasts are not natural. It is widely believed they are a failed (or successful?) laboratory experiment released to the wild. They have only been known for a few generations; the very first of them, Sigurd, is still alive to this day. Despite their unnatural origins, Ghasts can live nearly anywhere, provided they have access to the liquid they need. As such they are found in all sorts of biomes with next to no restrictions. If a Ghast wants to live somewhere it simply adjusts its body mechanically to survive.

Getting Your Own

Since Steamghasts are an open species you can make your own! Following the lore isn't required, and the design guidelines are flexible. Using, selling, and trading Steamghasts is allowed. I only ask that you do not create a Ghast for the sole purpose of selling it, such as adopts.
