Yumi-Pop LORE

The Goddess and her children

image.png?width=446&height=579

Yumi, the Goddess who helps to keep mortal life in check, by eliminating vengeful, lost, and corrupted souls who wish to disturb the peace...

Yumi does not directly contact anyone themself. Yumi can only be contacted via a special mirror located in the heart of Limbo, the Yumi-Pop homeland. They trust that a Yumi-Pop knows their duty, as it is told to them the day they are reborn. They will never attempt to contact a Yumi-Pop themselves, and if they don't complete their duty, well... A lot of changes start happening.

Yumina, the Symbol of The Goddess

REBIRTH

When a Yumi-Pop has been chosen to be reborn, a headstone is reserved and made just for them.
When their mortal self has died, the headstone begins to glow and a Yumi-Kin is born. When they are rebirthed, they do not posess any money or any materialistic items, only their clothes.
When they are rebirthed, a Yumi (Either from the Keishi or Dead Earth) usually welcomes them. It depends if a Yumi came to be in the graveyard of Limbo or if it was summoned forcibly by the Dead Earth, also noting:

  • Some Yumis get reincarnated without memories, but can subconsciously still keep their personality and traits.
  • When a Yumi-Pop is reincarnated, usually a senior Yumi-Pop (Tasked by the Keishi or Dead earth) is responsible for taking care of the new reincarnated Yumi: Showing them around, helping with finding a job and “living” a new and happy life. However, the fate of the new reincarnated Yumi solely lies in the hands on who gets to them first, that being the Keishi or Dead Earth. Their fate in being good or bad is decided from that day on...

A Yumi-Pop'S BEST FRIEND

The Yumi-Kin is an undeveloped form of a Yumi-Pop. Yumi-Kins have the appearance of small creatures that can look plush-like in nature or that of realistic animals. It has similar traits to the Yumi-Pop and may have a personality alike to it.

For the first week of its birth, the Yumi-Kin tours around Limbo; Maturing within the week and learning its duty. After that, it goes back to its headstone.
The next day, a Yumi-Pop appears in it's place. The Yumi-Pop can choose to summon it's Yumi-Kin or to never really have it active. A Yumi-Kin can be a helpful and maybe even friendly companion to have... But if the Yumi-Kin gets hurt, so does the Yumi-Pop, so many Yumi-Pops choose not to summon one.

If not summoned, the Yumi-Kin remains dormant and cannot exist own its own unless the Yumi-Pop decides to have them out. Yumi-Pops are the more ’pg’ version of their names to appear more friendly, the real specie’s name is Grim Reaper.

MUTANTS

There are some Yumi-Pops who are born with mutations... They may have stuff like several tails, several Keepers or no Keepers at all, More pair of wings, or more than one Yumi-Kin... Maybe even all these things in one.
These are extremely, extremely rare cases... However, a certain someone brewed a way to get to this form...

INJURIES

If a Yumi-Pop happens to get injured, they will slowly regenerate within 24 hours. If it goes on for much longer than that, treatment is needed. In the case of horns and tails being damaged: They also regenerate. On rare occasions there are Yumi-Pops with permanent cracks or completely broken tails or horns.

A Yumi pop bleeds black blood. Despite them being dead and mostly made out of magic, they still feel pain and can bleed out. To keep a Yumi pop and their soul away, a sage is needed to be used and burned like the example below.
ezgif-5-c4f821fac0.png A sage is like "Kryptonite" to a Yumi-Pop (a big and fatal weakness). If a weapon was laced with sage oil and then the Yumi was stabbed / had a limb cut off, the Yumi wont be able to regenerate, leaving the wound open (but they wont bleed out).

WEAPONS

A Yumi-Pop's weapon is created the moment they are reborn. It is summoned by holding their breath and pulling it out of their own Keeper. These weapons have been nicknamed to be "Limbs". While a Yumi-Pop can use other weapons, the Limb must be the one to reap a soul.

A Yumi-Pop's Limb can be anything. However, the most common types of Limbs are those of scythes, swords, and flails. Having a limb such as a ranged weapon, axe, greatsword/giant weapon, etc., is less common.
A Limb, for the most part, follows the appearance of the host's tail or horns, however, they are freely customizable.

TRAVELING TO EARTH

To travel to Earth from Limbo, it involves a very simple blood ritual. You must draw out a Yumina in its beta form and have an offering ready.

A Possessed Yumi-Pop can cut through a rift and travel easier, as they naturally have the most power blessed by the Goddess. This means the Goddess was confident they'd be a prestigious Reaper.

  • Get sacrifice, can be an animal (Ram more often) or something else, however it needs to have blood and needs to be alive.
  • Get the candles and chants ready.
  • Cut open the animal whilst chanting and praying.
  • Draw out the beta symbol to travel to the Human realm, d̶r̷a̴w̵ ̶t̶h̵e̵ ̵c̴u̶l̷t̵'̵s̶ ̵s̶y̶m̵b̵o̴l̸ ̴t̴o̵ ̸s̶u̸m̷m̸o̶n̴ ̷t̴h̴e̷ ̴g̶o̵d̸

A YUMI-POP'S DEATH

photo-1602260262371-d5f734e1cffc?ixlib=r

For the most part, the Goddess Yumi chooses who to rebirth. A person can be chosen to be reborn as a Yumi-Pop from the day they were born, or during one of the many sins they will commit throughout their lives.

Those chosen are more likely to run into misfortune and may even die earlier than needed. The Goddess can choose to twist their fate however and whenever they'd like.

Most people who are chosen to be Yumi-Pops die to misfortune, such as a wild animal attack, tripping over and falling, a random disease, etc.
It is very rare for those chosen to die when nature calls. When those people die, a "Death scar" appears on them once they are reborn to be a Yumi-Pop, symbolizing their death.

If a corpse is so destroyed that it can not function as a body, the soul of that body that has been chosen to be reborn can get a replacement. A replacement is usually the corpse of someone who has gone to the afterlife and their body is vacant / soulless. It can also often mean that both the soul that enters the new body and gets rejected can get corrupted as well as the other soul from the body that is being taken from.

When they are reborn, they have no memory of their death: Who or what killed them, or the area they died. When a Yumi-Pop is near or acknowledges the thing/person that killed them or the area they died in... They will start getting severe headaches, something made to make Yumi-Pops flee the area. These headaches can cause severe pains and make a Yumi-Pop feel like they are in danger.

There are some Yumi-Pops brave and strong enough to go through this pain and remember these events... And it can change their mental behavior drastically. Mental instability due to the memories of one's tragic death can also cause them to be vulnerable towards souls corrupting them, becoming the worst kind of corruption.

This isn't a widely known fact... But...
There was one of this type which was eliminated in secret.
It scarred the two Reapers forever.

CORRUPTED SOULS

Corruption has its own stage levels, since their minimum intake is 3-4 souls a week, stocking up would be 5-9, and overfeeding, aka beginning of corruption, is 10+ souls.

Some Yumis would get corrupt slower (a transition from a Yumi to a corrupt Yumi) because of their power / rarity level. A corrupted soul has a measurement and it’s of the regret and guilt the soul has felt. The bigger the regret, the more power they have.

There is many ways a corrupted soul comes to be:

  • Afterlife— A corrupted soul did not have a peaceful death and was not able to go to the Afterlife, therefore if it has unfinished business or strong resentment / emotions, it can attack and become corrupted / violent. Their original forms are symbolic representations of their death. (E.G: Killed by a pack of wolves = becomes a Cerberus)
  • Yumi corruption— When a Yumi remembers their past, consumes too much souls or overuses substances (and so on), they can turn into a corrupted soul, which is often MUCH more powerful and bigger in size. A corrupted Yumi’s appearance is a mutated and deformed version of themselves, looking like they are melting whilst also sometimes crying out their regrets and grief, and repeating the words over and over until they are killed.
  • “Man-made"— As the name speaks for itself, they are souls artificially made by Dead Earth or third party. They are made by capturing pure souls or Yumis and drugging them to make them corrupted.
