MvM Setting

Team Fortress 2 story that has a Mann vs Machine setting with slight canon-divergence.

The fate of Grey Mann is unknown, but his robot armies are still here. Kept in the dark about the background information that led to this mechanical threat, REDs and BLUs must team up together to fight against these robots at various Mann Co. facilities across the world.

PREAMBLE

This setting is based on my ideas of how Mann vs Machines (MvM) game mode of Team Fortress 2 works, and so may diverge from canon at certain parts. This setting assumes that there are multiple teams at various bases that are outside of the Teufort Nine (the canon mercenaries).

PREMISE

After the events of the TF2 comics, Grey Mann's robot army are still attacking Mann Co. property in waves. With little explanation to the full truth behind the events, selected RED and BLU mercenaries are assigned to team up together to fight against the mechanical threat. Oftentimes, they are pushed to travel from base to base to follow the hatches that drop off the robots at the bases. Mercenaries outside of these MvM missions may have heard of the robotic armies and of these teams, but most of the details concerning these missions do not reach them.

MECHANICS

There are usually ten mercenaries per team, but only six mercenaries (3 at the very least) who can fight at a time. The rest act as stand-ins and can switch in when someone wants to tag out, although this is only permitted between waves. Usually, there is always one of each class in one team. Ten or more team members is uncommon. These teams have numbers for bureaucracy purposes, but they also have team names, for easier identification between teams. When there is a surplus of MvM fighters, they can be redirected to regular bases (the core game modes). Or at least, that can be easily used as an official excuse when needed.

When teams fail, they are responsible for reimbursing the damages and for quickly fixing them, so they must remain fighting to forgive their debt. The cash dropped by the bots are taken back by Mann Co. at the end of each successful mission, as the money is declared as company property. This means surrendering upgrades as well. This is why collected money cannot be kept for future missions.
