legend has it that long ago - far too many eons ago to count - a rainbow streaking across the skies suddenly found itself in a state no one had ever thought a rainbow could be.. shattered. those who have had the tale passed down to them have all kinds of different stories as to how it came to be; lightning, meteors, an act of the gods, right down to simple happenstance. however, the most prevalent legend comes in the form of two deities locked in battle whose combined, clashing powers shattered time and space itself.
the one thing that is always consistent in these tales is the figure dubbed โnyan catโ, which has taken thousands of varying forms depending on the universe youโre hearing your tale from. ah, yes.. the one thing tying all of these beings together is simple - they are all the sundered shards of a single deity known as nyan borealis. interestingly, some of these shards exist in the same universe consistently, normally as family, but sometimes completely unknown to each other.
another interesting factor - one that supports the theory that the sundering was caused by a clashing of deities - is that it isnโt only this โnyan catโ that seems to be consistent, but also the seemingly corrupted entity โtac naynโ. between these two, multiple other variants have been documented that seem to resemble neither of the two in general colour palette or even species, yet keeping the strangely specific poptart-style gimmick and other such defining characteristics that unmistakably identifies them as one such shard.
some of these entities are in closely related timelines, barely different from our own, while others exist in timelines so absurd and out of order one would hardly think them real. while some universes, such as our own, see โnyan catโ as an entity taking on the form of a popular internet meme, distant timelines may see what we consider a silly meme as an irreverent god, or even a demon to be feared.
nyan borealis, the origin of the sundering, has taken it upon themself to realign themself with all of their shards in order to restabilise the multiverse. discontent with the discord in their mind and soul alike, their goal is simple: travel the multiverse, seek out as many nyans and otherwise as they can, and reconnect with them. whether they get up to nothing more than mischief or truly find a way to bring balance to these worlds.. well, that remains to be seen.
