Gemkits

Anatomy

Gemkits are born with at least one pair of Haloarms. These special limbs are kept around the neck and are opaque when not in use. When in use, these appendages become translucent and may be used in ways similar to a stretchy pair of human arms. Haloarms come in four forms: pet paws, beast claws, cryptic limbs, and the basic graspers. Pet paws are large and squishy, not recommended for use in battles. Beast claws are sharp and do their best in battle. Cryptic limbs look strangely similar to a pair of human arms and work much like human hands. The basic graspers are blocky in nature and are well rounded for everything. When in use, haloarms are not always corporeal, the kit can decide whether they want to interact with an object or not.

Gemkits have two main forms: Bean form and Noble form. Bean form is a small, squishy form gemkits are born in. Bean form is a comfort form and one that does not get hurt easily. Gemkits are much lighter in bean form, allowing them to float safely down from high areas. Noble form is much similar to average cats, their body and haloarms are much stronger in this form but they do take more damage from battles. Gemkits can switch between these two forms with ease. The third, but uncommon form, is referred to as knight form, a small bipedal form awarded to gemkits by the king’s decree. Outstanding cats can add this form to the ones they can switch between. The fourth form is Royal form and is only used by the ruling Gemkits. This form has very human-like proportions and is much taller than the other forms.

Reproduction

The young of a Gemkit is fondly referred to as a Gemling. Gemlings are born through Gem Flowers. Gem Flowers bloom en mass rarely, only following annual meteor showers, but infrequently bloom year round in the gem caves. During this Star Shower celebration, the gem flower field is full of soon to be parents, excited to raise a newborn kit. Gemlings emerge from their flowery beds about five days after being picked. Rarely a Gemling will emerge from an uncut flower but there's always a watchful eye ready to help them find a loving home. After being picked, the Gemkit parents can hold the flower with their haloarms and send thoughts to the Gemling inside to increase the chances of it looking like the parents. If the parents wish to be surprised they may leave the flower alone and let the Gemling develop by itself.

Royalty

The Gemkits rule through the monarchy system. The crowned kings or queens of the clowder have a close resemblance to the Diamond Queen, although not being immortal but having more humanoid forms than their peers. They gain this evolution through many different ways.
Royal Blood - Both parents are rulers, a rarity for the clowder.
Passed Down - The king or queen passes his or her abilities to a chosen Kit.
Earned - Achieved through seeking more knowledge, power and training.
Taken- Acquired through killing the current king or queen of the clowder.
The ability to be the king or queen is passed through the crown they wear, giving them power to turn humanoid which is a trait for all kings and queens. Royal bloods do not need the crowns to acquire this trait as they are born with it. Because earned kits achieved it through their own power they can also keep the form without the crown's aid. The passed downs can acquire enough power through further training to maintain their trait without the crown. Takens can only attain their abilities through the crown as killing the former king or queen means surprise attack or assassination. Taken crown rulers are looked down upon and feared at the same time.

An Unbreakable Figure

Blooming from the Gem Flowers, deep within the Gem Caves, was the first Gemkit. Starting off as just a regular Gemkit, with no mutations and with only just an oval gem, she was alone in the dark depths of a cave full of Gem Flowers. She was a brave and curious Kit, exploring every nook and cranny of the cave before leaving its confinements. She traveled far and wide through the lands, learning and evolving as she went. Slowly she started to change, first her eyes, then her ears, then her Gems. As she grew in size and form so did her knowledge of the world around her. Her paws slowly turned into humanoid limbs, her body grew into a curvy proportion, her features became more defined and finally, her Gems grew in numbers and merged into a crown of many colors. She acquired the magical ability to give life to more of her kind. She had ascended into an immortal being. She became the Creator, more often known as the Diamond Queen.

Many years ago The Diamond Queen walked alongside the gemkits but after The former queen Noor took the throne by force, The Diamond Queen questioned her creation and sought to reflect and repent. The Diamond Queen left the Jewel City and retreated to an overgrown island just off the coast of Feligon. After she moved there the flora became rich and colorful, growing even more out of control than before. This Island became known to Gemkits as The Creator’s Island but more commonly known around the continent as Mystic Island. The Diamond Queen is said to reside in a floating Obelisk in the center. Only the most courageous kits should try to brave the wild terrain in hopes of meeting their creator

Culture

Along with the other catfolk inhabitants of Feligon, Gemkits worship the Siblings of Feli, Fire and Water deities that are thought to keep life in motion. Gemkits also worship their own creator, The Diamond Queen. Those especially devoted to her will mark their foreheads with gem markings. This is entirely their own choice but is commonly seen throughout the Jewel city. There are five shrines for the Siblings of Feli on the continent of Feligon, they are well taken care of and heavily visited. The Diamond Queen has a handful of shrines scattered over the Jewel City and a shared shrine in the Capital. Gemkits often leave their eternal queen colorful flowers and scrolls of interesting facts and information to satiate her love for knowledge.

Enemies

Yataras are the prime enemy of gemkits. These crow-like creatures love the shine of their forehead gems and gemflowers and will swoop out of the sky to try and steal them. They are not overly violent and can be chased off without much worry. Although not usually dangerous, a flock of yataras is much harder to deal with. It is best to avoid large numbers of these cretins at all costs.

Vivinies are a rarer enemy. Usually traveling in pairs or solo, these canines put up a real fight. They don’t often attack gemkits but may be triggered into battle by the shine of the kit’s head gem. They see the shine as a challenge and it’s best to get out of there before anything happens. They become aggressive and territorial at night so do try to not go out alone after dark.
