Introduction
All you need to know!
Gummi-dogs are a hybrid species of Canines who have gone through genetic mutations in order to have sugary goo-based parts of their bodies! They were once an experiment done during the American Cold War, but were quickly abandoned when found too friendly to be used as weapons. They now live domestically and in the wild, and can be represented in feral or anthro forms! Gummi-dogs are a semi-open species and thus certain traits are free to make with specific traits.
In order to make your own Gummi-dog, please follow the guidelines found HERE! Everyone can make their own Gummi-dogs with common and uncommon traits. However, rare and epic traits are reserved only for customs, MYOs, and events.
Anatomy
Gummi-dogs have the basic look of any domesticated dog (wolves, coyotes, dingos, painted dogs, etc. are wild dogs and thus not allowed) since their creators only had access to dogs in local shelters as test subjects in their experiment. Physical characteristics that are different than normal dogs are the ability to have horns, an exposed gummy belly, the ability to have exposed gummy parts on other places on the body, a gummy tail, eye mutations, bodily mutations, gummy paws, hard candy teeth and horns, gummy organs, and the ability to be anthropomorphic.
Their average life-span is 25-45 years. After this point, a majority of the sugar in there bodies begin to rot and they become zombie like. In their society, if a dog is becoming "zombified", they or their family sends them to a crematorium, where they are burned. If left alone, zombified dogs can zombify other dogs, so it is important that they are completely disposed of. Other than complete bodily combustion, a Gummi-dog can not be killed.
The Gummi-dog's ability to regenerate their bodies comes from a unique body part called the Helix Gland. The Helix Gland is located near the pancreas, and releases hormones when the dog is injured or needs to change their bodily structure in some way. These hormones alert the paw pads on the dog to absorb sugar near them so that its body can use that sugar to restore anything that needs to be fixed.
Their skeletons and teeth are made of hard candy that is incredibly condensed so that it is almost as hard as bone. However, it is more brittle. Their organs are made of gummy candy, and their blood is liquid sugar. Gummi-dogs can have bits and pieces ripped off of them, and in their place a gummy exterior will grow. If they receive a small nick (in the ear, tail, shoulders, etc.) it will bleed liquid sugar until it becomes gelatinous, where it will then turn into gummy candy. They stand anywhere from 2-6 feet tall, depending on the dog they are based off of. Their bodies are larger than the original dog they are based around because small dogs could not fill the full needs of the scientists who created them.
Their colors can be any colors that are a combination of their original dog they are based on and the candy they have been fused with.
To reproduce, Gummi-dogs are able to grow gummy genitalia of their choosing (meaning they are intersex by nature) via the Helix Gland and reproduce normally. After reproduction, the genitalia is reabsorbed by the body. When the recieving dog is pregnant, the developing fetus can be seen through her gummy belly. The gestation period is 10-12months. During that time, culturally, the dog's friends and family hold them in high regard for choosing to be the carrier of the child, and is given full leave of any work they may have been doing, and are kept well fed and nurtured. After the pup is born, the carrier reabsorbs their genitalia and is once again able to reproduce, either as a giver or carrier. However, typically the carrier will continue to have tits until the pup is able to eat solids. Their "milk" is similar to honey, but more liquid and holds more essential nutrients. The pup of two Gummi-dogs is a combination of both their breed, colors, and traits. However, random mutations are possible, and are common in the species since they are a man-made creation. The pup will reach full maturity on their 3rd birthday.
Background
In 1964, scientists in America, in the midsts of the Cold War, were working on a bio-weapon in secret with the hopes of attacking the enemy with something they would never see coming. They were working on a creation that was near-impossible to kill. By synthesizing a new organ, they were able to give the creature regenerative properties with the magic of the endocrine system (I’m a biology nerd, can you tell?).
However, the only easily trainable animal the scientists could utilize were canines, and this proved to be difficult. Once created, the then dubbed Infanines were too friendly to be trained as a bioweapon. The scientists, disappointed with the result, went on to look into robotics as their solution and locked up the dogs.
Vincent James McDougle, a scientist on the team, was the future inheritor of a family candy shoppe. His family business was failing and as his father aged, his time to run the shop loomed nearer. After much thought (and drinking) he came to the realization that by having the Infanines regrow in a candy environment, he could create candy dogs to sell in his shoppe. He took the abandoned Infanines to his shoppe, and before long Gummi-dogs were born. The first Gummi-dog was named Chaplin, and was the official face of the candy shoppe, creating the country wide phenomenon of gummi-dogs. His creation was a success, and soon he was making tens of thousands on Gummi-dogs.
Since then, since gummi-dogs are highly intelligent, they have created their own societies. They can walk on two legs or 4, and have a culture similar to humanity. However, their religion revolves around their creators, the scientists, unlike human religion. They mainly pray their thanks to have been created, not that the scientists will cure their sins. In fact, they do not believe in the idea that they have sin. Since they are still dogs, reproduction and earthly pleasures are part of their religion, thanking their creators that they have the ability to enjoy life.
Clothing is optional in their culture. Casual wear is being nude, while a dinner or a night out may require some sort of clothing for fun. Their genitals are not visible normally, so in normal circumstances being nude is not indecent.
