Shen

No offense intended, but Shen is the most abnormal-looking monster out of the "main four". Unlike Kazuo, Linos, and Hachiro, there's no feasible way he could be mistaken for an ordinary human being. However, the fact that he can't mingle among humans doesn't seem to bother him that much, since he tends to be a reserved and quiet creature; and probably wouldn't be too keen on frolicking around in public even if he could. Miraculously, he's able to squeeze himself into Hanako's tiny, first floor apartment, but he takes up an uncomfortable amount of space. Hanako doesn't have the heart to kick him out, since he has nowhere else to go.

Despite his frightening appearance, Shen has a gentlemanly demeanor and is very quiet. It's not that he's shy, but he doesn't feel the need to be a constant blabber-mouth, and will only speak up when the atmosphere is right for him to do so. He does have a rather morbid sense of humor, often cracking jokes about suicide, losing his forest home, or how he drinks blood like a stereotypical vampire. However, as with the majority of arachnitaurs, he only drinks non-human animal blood. Shen absolutely cannot digest anything solid. It's the equivalent of a human with a food allergy eating something that triggers anaphylaxis, abdominal pains, etc. He needs to drink several liters of blood every few days to maintain his energy—if he doesn't, he becomes lethargic and could eventually die. Shen gets just enough blood from the raw poultry and (occasionally) beef that Hanako buys, but it's just not the same as feeding from his usual prey of deer and mountain lions.

You'd think with eight eyes Shen would be a bit more coordinated, but he's terribly clumsy. One of his worst habits is constructing webs in Hanako's cramped apartment, and forgetting about them, until he or someone else gets stuck. He also tends to bump his head and his rear into things, because of his enormous size and weird proportions. He's also a huge pervert, but keeps this under wraps.

While Kazuo, Hachiro, and Linos constantly fight with each other, and Hanako gets dragged into their disputes more often than she'd like, Shen gets along relatively smoothly with all of them. However, he's closest to Hachiro, as arachnitaurs and werewolves are both forest-dwelling monsters and typically form a mutually-beneficial agreement when their species occupy the same territory: arachnitaurs drain the prey's blood, werewolves eat the leftover flesh.

As an arachnitaur, and a particularly intuitive and coolheaded one at that, Shen is deeply in-tune with his surroundings. His sense of touch is even more sensitive than a human infant's, and while he doesn't primarily rely on audible sound to gain an idea of his surroundings, he's able to sense even weak vibrations from several meters away—moreso if something is touching a silk strand he's laid out. Ironically, Shen has never heard music before coming to live with Hanako. Discovering new bands and songs soon becomes one of his favorite hobbies along with blogging and card games.  

Shen's body is similar to a centaur's, except his lower half is that of a giant spider's instead of a horse. His spider-half has eight stilt-like legs, and his upper, humanoid body has four arms. Technically, he'd be a dodecapod instead of an arachnid. He has eight unusual eyes, with black sclera and pomegranate-red irises. His silky, jet-black hair goes down to below his shoulders, and is probably one of his most attractive features. He has some facial hair, which he takes diligent care to groom. His human-half is a bit bulky, bordering somewhere between muscular and a 'dad bod'. His ears are pointed, similar to that of a stereotypical elf's; and his long canines jut out from his mouth. Shen's spider-half is smooth, cool, and almost rubbery to the touch, like a dolphin's skin.
