About

Merit is a celestial warlock, still exploring the powers that have been growing with her since she was a child. Warm, whistful and benevolent, she's charismatic and would always seek to make friends wherever she may find herself. She's at home with her new friend group, despite feeling wildly out of place in the world outside of her small farm with her family. Her powers manifest in powerful blasts of electricity and soft healing light, and if she didn't have the ability to tend to and help those around her she would've surely left by now. Feeling terribly responsible for every injury her friends endure, Merit promises herself that she'll see their adventure through...

When it's all over she wants to go home. Start her own farm. Live peacefully But the more time goes by the farther away it feels. She stores away spare silver and gold anyways and likes to think about what kind of animals she'd get. A lot of goats, for sure.

Merit can't deny her adventuring has changed how she sees things and how she acts. It takes a toll. While usually energetic and eager to explore she is weary and cautious. Her loyalty to her friends is undying, as charismatic and thoughtful as ever. Protective, but all too aware of her lack of control. She can't help what trouble her friends get into, but she'll go along with them either way.

Likes

Animals

Growing up on a farm Merit finds comfort in her furry friends and enjoys their company.

Routine

While eager for adventure when she was home, the grass is always greener on the other side, and now all Merit wants is some predictability.

Hugs

Finds a lot of comfort in touch, very grounding for her and being close to those she cares about is very important to her.

Storms

A part of her own magic, lightning and thunder are rather soothing to her, and she loves a good rainy day.

Dislikes

Blood

She didn't really know she even COULD heal people until recently. Can even bring them back to life. Doesn't mean it doesn't scare the hell outta her when she sees blood.

Unknown

The unknown is hard to prepare for, and Merit isn't ready for that.

Secrets

Has a hard time understanding WHY people keep important secrets as well.

Conflict

She'll usually avoid it at all costs, but it's been getting easier. Merit isn't sure if that's a good thing, though.

Moodboard

Abilities

Witch Bolt

Doing 3d12 lightning damage, this is certainly nothing to mess with. Although this power is rarely seen from Merit, often saving her energy for more healing spells.

Protection from Evil and Good

At a touch, Merit can cast a spell to protect a willing creature from aberrations, celestials, elementals, fey, fiends, and undead. They can't be charmed or possessed and creatures of that type have disadvantage when hitting them.

Cure Wounds

Healing for 3d8+4, Merit uses this on her friends frequently, despite already being trained with the healer feat. No such thing as being too healthy during battle.

Eldritch Blast

An iconic staple of any warlock, it arcs from her fingertips in bright flash of lightning to do 1d10+4 per blast.

Summary

unknown.png?width=381&height=586

Merit grew up on a small farm in dead snows with her mother, Hope, and her father, -name-, a jeweler. She was an adventurous and eager child who loved to climb trees, bird watch, playfight with sticks and swords and help the other townsfolk when she could. While she loved animals she'd often rush through her chores in order to explore the forest and play with her friends. Growing up she always sought adventure, and often found small ones like helping keep wolves away from the neighbors sheep and finding a child who wandered just a tad too far from home.

Magic

She found a cave when she was small, she heard sounds coming from inside and was intrigued. She thought of fighting dragons and discovering treasure. Driven by curiosity she entered, and discovered a divine being in combat with a deadly looking beast, it would've been the last thing she ever saw, as it saw her and pounced, sinking its claws in deep. She woke up in the hands of the being, gifting her a second chance at life after she slayed the beast. These memories were locked away until a dream bought them back while she was traveling.

Current

Looking to take on work she stopped by a bulletin seeking help and jumped at the chance. Four other folks were interested in the job as well, and so she met Eira, Hera, Jinryn and Ten. Having lost contact with some miners they enlisted the group check in on them, only to find the mine was overrun by kobolds, receiving orders from a mysterious figure. It's been a spiral since then. Merit closely bonded with those she traveled with, and got to fully embrace her powers. From cults, ancient rituals, to kidnapped cats and rat gangs, Merit has a lot on her plate. She pushes it aside in favor of focusing on her friends, who tend to get wrapped up in the thick of it.

Jinryn

friend

When he's not too busy getting into life or death situations, tempting fate, being around him is a great comfort to Merit, finding a consistent, if odd, sense of normalcy in his company. Raising a chicken, taking time to read, learn card games, debating dreams. Jinryn being secretive and cynical, Merit is happy to know he trusts her with this much, and in return she won't question him when dances around a topic or tosses out a harmless lie.

unknown.png

Eira

friend

Eira is so mysterious and quite, Merit doesn't know too much about him, but still trusts and admires him. She deems him a good guy and finds the magic abilities he rarely uses very fascinating. Can't deny his skill at rock, paper, scissors, either. As time wear on, she hopes he'll feel more at home with the group so they can get to know him better. Deadly with a crossbow, Eira tends to stay at the back of the pack with Merit during battle.

Ten

friend

Merit always wanted a big sibling, and while Merit is actually older than Ten, he still fits the bill. The towering half orc is an admirable fighter, on the front lines willing to take a hit for a friend and show off their abilities. She appreciates how genuine and friendly Ten is to her, and he really does give the best hugs. She'll always be ready to back him up and patch up his wounds, even if she'd prefer he air on the side of caution.

Hera

friend

Hera is an efficient ranger. Rough around the edges and incredibly capable, if distant. Merit finds herself at odds with harsher personalities and takes gruff responses very personally, but understands Hera isn't an ill-intentioned person, even more so when she discovered Hera had a daughter who Hera believed dead for years, apparently being the last of her family. Heras connection with animals strengths Merits trust in her.

unknown.png

Dirt

daughter

Dirt is her chicken theater child daughter. She loves her dearly, having set out to buy a horse, only to get a chicken instead. Outsourcing the naming to Jinryn, he dubbed her 'Dirt', which made him an official co-parent. She's dramatic, attention-seeking, a bit rude with her words, honestly, and Jinryn doesn't even believe Merit can speak with Dirt, but it's ok. It's whatever. It's fiiiiine. Merit loves having the little chicken in their group.

Chomps

familiar

Chomps is her partner is justice and a wonderful familiar. A matter-of-fact and enthusiastic kinda guy, Merit couldn't imagine doing all this without him. He's been with her since that time she accidently died when she was a child, so they're pretty bonded. He's loyal, soft, fluffy, and like a weighted blanket- all the best things rolled into one little chompy badger fella. She makes sure he gets fed the best table scraps and gets all the headpats.
