Zane uses humor and a thick layer of irony to hide their insecurities. They are a hard worker and extremely creative.
In high school, Zane is well liked by most of their peers, but doesn't feel like they have any relationships that aren't superficial. They don't let people see past their funny/aloof mask.
Meeting Shay and Redd was a big step for them. Surprised by Shay's general sincerity towards them and Redd's blatant distaste for most of their bullshit. They also gave Zane an outlet for their musical work outside of school.
Mint was one of the first people Zane felt completely honest with and allowed them to put themself out more.

03 — Background
Subheading
Zane is the second eldest of seven children. They had more responsibility than usual at a young age, as their parents were working a lot at the time. Their older sister, "Livy", taught them how to play guitar when they were six and became fixated on it whenever they had alone time, however they never considered it a career until high school.
Once his older sister moves out, Zane inherits her basement room. Zane appreciates having a space that's separate from his siblings
Zane is tracked down by Shay and Redd to start a band after hearing all of their credentials (did chorus, band, jazz band, theater, ect). While reluctant at first, they agree. They jokingly flirt with Shay who takes them serious which leads them to going on the date. While Zane definitely grew closer to Shay, they never seemed to feel the same depth as him (also annoying Redd about stealing his crush lost its charm pretty quickly). Zane breaks it off after realizing their feelings for Mint. She was originally their lab partner who heard about the band's first gig and came, proclaiming herself their number one fan! From there, the two became close friends and eventually romantic.
Zane winds up going to a school for musical theory near Mint. They find out Mint is pregnant a month before graduation. They decide to get engaged and get married within the next year. While never really planning on being a parent, Zane is in shock for most of the pregnancy, but loves baby Kili more than anything in the world.

- Knows how to play Guitar, Bass, Ukelele, Clarinet, Oboe, French horn, and piano. Likes collecting instruments.
- Did like five part time jobs in high school; hated all of them.
- Parents have a shitty Pomeranian mix that hates Zane.
- Doesn't explain their gender very often.
- Mostly works from home so spends a lot of time with Keylime and became very depressed when baby started going to school.
- Their parents use to be huge hippies. Though after the third kid they toned it down a bit, they still have some weird habits.
05 — Relationships

Lover - They met in chemistry class, senior year, when they were assigned to be lab partners. Between goofing around in class, she learned about his band doing a gig and promised to go, to Zane's embarrassment. They started hanging out more after school - swapping stories about love interests, and the band. Zane eventually breaks up with Shay to ask Mint out and they become the PC power couple. They wind up going to college close together. Months before college graduation, Mint learns she is pregnant with Zane's baby. They get married the next summer.

Friend/Ex - Zane flirted with Shay while he was trying to recruit Zane to the band. Shay took it to heart, and asked Zane on a date. Shocked and a little embarrassed someone took him so seriously, Zane goes. They wind up dating for several months, but not really clicking romantically, especially when Zane figures out his feelings for Mint. They stay bandmates and good friends.

Friend - Zane was in a play Inego was working crew for. They share music and go to some parties together. Zane thinks he's fun to be around, if a little immature (like he's one to talk).

Friend - Zane was in a play Vi was working crew for. Vi is a bit concerning, but nice. Zane let him touch his boob once.

Frienemies/Friendfriends - Redd and Shay recruited Zane to be in their band. Zane enjoys getting under Redd's skin; he is very teaseable. Things were a little more tense when Zane was dating Shay, but that's blown over.

??? - Met at the first #f2d450 Color show. Zane mostly knows Leo from Mint talking about him. He never really got what Mint liked about Leo or that she kept trying anything with him when he obviously just wanted her food.

Misc - Zane comes from a large family. He's close to his older sister, Olive (Livy), but is slightly distant from the myriad of younger siblings. Zane basically leaves them to his own devices unless he's looking after the baby. He spends a lot of time working or with the band and doesn't spend much time at home. His parents are usually busy with work/taking care of kids. (Oldest to youngest: Olive, Zane, Star, Clover, Liefa, Saffron, and Marigold). They also have a "shitty pom mix" that Zane avoids.

Fear- Zane is extremely intimidated by Mint's family, especially her dad. Her family life is completely different from theirs, and they always feel they're messing up, even if Mint assures them that her family loves Zane!!

Big bitches - Aunt from their mother's side. Completely opposite Zane's mom, very straight lace and uptight. Her husband and their 2.5 kids are a nightmare to have around on the holidays because of their big superiority complex.
