About

Hickory is the benevolent prince of the squirrel kingdom. He's always willing to lend a helping hand to someone in need and will do it without a second thought. While he isn't loud or rambunctious, he almost always has a soft expression on his face, or a subtle smile.

He loves reading and spends much of his free time in the palace library, burying himself in a thick novel. He's extremely literate and enjoys teaching others about the wonders of reading, although he's aware it can be annoying sometimes so he tends to hold off. He's extremely good friends with Bo-Ra, the chinchilla princess, despite her abrasive personality. He is almost like her caretaker, even going so far as to follow her into the human world. He possesses the twin star amulets, each hold enough power to last him 8 hours total in the human world, assuring him that Bo-Ra will never be left behind. He's also quite close to Nanako, the rabbit princess, and enjoys studying with her.

Personality

Just a bit quiet, extremely generous, bookish and kind. Hickory is a soft soul and can't stand to be in a bad mood for too long. He tries his best to value everything in life (although he's deathly afraid of bugs) and is perfectly satisfied curled up in a blanket with a novel. He's not a very fighty person and prefers to go with the flow to avoid upset.

He always tries to keep a soft look on his face so that he will remain approachable by all. He strives to keep a good reputation for himself and for the royal family therefore he's extremely agreeable and easy to get along with. He's not overly emotional, but does have a sensitive side. He's weak for cute boys, especially his boyfriend, Basil.

Story Summary

Hickory had always been a bit of a 'perfect prince.' From a young age he developed an immense fascination with reading, writing, etc. Always kind and generous with even the smallest things, his parents were oh so proud. He had quite a bit of trouble with maths, but his charming personality and sweet demeanour made up for his shortcomings. The royal squirrel family had always been close to the royal rabbit family, and it was because of that he met his best friend Nanako, with whom he would often study with. He met the princess Bo-Ra at the royal chinchilla family's annual ball, and was taken aback by her abrasive personality. She seemed to be what he was lacking. From then on, they became good friends, Hickory teaching the young princess some much needed manners while the chinchilla showed the squirrel activities other than books.

Hickory became almost like her guardian of sorts, doing his very best to keep her out of trouble and her temper under control.

But, when the time came that Bo-Ra wanted to go to the human world, Hickory immediately worried. He wondered day and night about his saucy little friend, until he came up with an idea. He'd use a magical crystal, much like the one Bo-ra had, to gain a human form for five hours a day. When he approached the chinchilla king and queen, they were more than happy to oblige, and granted him the star amulets, each one giving him 4 hours of human illusion. Unlike Bo-Ra's amulet, which allowed her to take actual human form, the twin stars were a bit different. The form projected was an illusion, and could be easily broken by just a brief lapse of concentration. That didn't stop the chinchilla king and queen, though. After all, they trusted the studious Hickory to watch over their daughter as he did all those years.

Hickory tailed behind her, but squirrels can only be so sneaky. He was discovered by Bo-Ra, but to his surprise, she wasn't mad. Instead she asked for his help- to ruin Haruka's career. He wasn't thrilled about this, so naturally, when he saw everyone start to get along, he was quite pleased. Nowadays he spends his time in the human world hanging out with the rest of the crew, and most oftenly his boyfriend, Basil. He enjoys the human world's novelties such as their vast libraries filled with foreign literature, and of course, the delicious sweets.

Appearance

Hickory is a short, small framed squirrel boy with medium length mint green, soft hair with bangs. Although he is a prince, he does not wear his crown, preferring a more comfortable beret instead. He has two, mint green with white insides, perky squirrel ears, although one is usually hidden under his hat. His eyes are a similar colour to his hair, perhaps a bit more 'ocean blue.' Usually his face is soft and relaxed. His skin is a creamy milky colour and he usually has the slightest bit of blush on his cheeks.

Like most of his species, he has a large tail, going up to behind his head. It's a similar mint green colour to his ears, and on the back is a white star. He has rather small feet, which he is just a touch sensitive of.

He prefers to dress elegantly, favouring capes/cloaks/trousers over jeans/t-shirts, fitting for royalty of course. Although his clothes look uncomfortable to most, he actually finds them quite easy to walk in. He displays his star amulets on his clothing- one on his neck, the other on his hat. He's rarely seen without both on hand.

Relationships

Bo-Ra [ Best Friend ] The princess of the chinchillas. Her abrasive personality is the opposite of his own, but they get along extremely well. He acts almost as her caretaker, keeping her out of trouble and helping her see reason.

Nanako [ Best Friend ] Quiet and brainy, it's no surprise that Hickory and Nanako get along so well. They enjoy studying together and even playing children's games together, just like they did when they were young. Nanako doesn't often venture into the human world, limiting their time together, but when they do see each other, it's like they never were apart.

Basil [ Lover ] The notorious trickster, the cat prince. Although cats and squirrels don't always get along, Hickory was smitten by Basil, love at first sight if you will. Although Hickory doesn't approve of everything Basil does, they still love each other very much. Basil loves casting illusions and causing deception, but he's toned it down quite a bit since meeting Hickory... he's on his best behaviour!

Kamiko [ Friend(?) ] Nanako's obnoxious younger sister with a severe princess complex, she believes she should've taken the throne instead of Nanako and spends her time bugging Hickory to give her his crown (since he never uses it, anyways!) Hickory feels bad for the girl and often tries to entertain her when he can.

Haruka [ Friend ] The princess of the dog kingdom. As children they'd often play together, even though their kingdoms weren't the closest together. Haruka was immediately fascinated by Hickory and they still talk regularly and hang out in the human world.
