_______________________________________________________

A Captian in the royal army, and Dana's childhood best friend.

Knows Faye's secret. He followed her to the beach after she tried (and failed) to shake him off when he had been ordered to escort her on her ride outside the castle walls. He watched from a nearby, safe distance as the princess waded into the surf...-and was suddenly swept of her feet! The captain ran down the beach, intending to help her out of the water, only to find the Princess with a living myth, a mermaid, hovering over her in the shallows as if....as if to drown her!! The captain flew into action to save the Princess, wrestling the creature away, and gathering the princess into his arms, his only thought to get her to safety-! But before he could take more then a step, a pair of cold, wet, slimy hands grabbed his boot! He lost his footing in the wet sand and he was dragged into the cold ocean. Dread filled his heart, for he knew he would surely drown in the depths, his armor weighing him like an achor to the seafloor....until he suddenly realized, someone had a hold of his arm, keeping him from being dragged any deeper! He opened his eyes (when had he even closed them, he wondered?) and looked up through the haze of salt water to see the Princess herself, bare feet dug into the sand as she held onto him with all her strength, yelling words that he couldn't make out through the waves of water crashing over his head- and just as suddenly as it began, the pressure pulling him towards the sea was released, and he was dragged, coughing and waterlogged, out of the surf...

It took more then a few minutes for Faye to calm him enough to put away his dagger and let go of the death-grip he had on her wrist, and far longer to convince him to come back down to the water to be introduced to this so-called "not-a-threat, she-thought-you-were-trying-to-kidnap-me" mermaid who, mind you, had just tried to drown him. He only relented once the mermaid agreed to pull herself out of the water, meeting him in "the middle". The princess confessed her relationship with the mermaid, and the two told him the story of how they met. After the two finished telling their story, Faye stood, and asked him not to tell anyone about Mika, to protect her, and her people from the threat of discovery. The Captain mulled over the princess' request for a moment, before (reluctantly) agreeing to keep their secret, BUT only under the condition that she would never go to the shore alone again, that he would at least be allowed accompany her in the future, for her safety. Faye eagerly agreed to his terms (he later reflected that she was probably also glad that she wouldn't have to work so hard to shake off her guard escort in the future.).

Needless to say, the Captain always removed the heaviest pieces of his gear before following Faye down the beach again, and It took quite awhile for him to relax his vigilance around Mika. But over time and with much cajoling (and needling) from Faye, he comes to trust the mermaid a bit more, at least enough that he felt comfortable sitting down on a nearby rock to polish his gear while the two girls spent what precious time they had together.

On one fateful holiday, off-duty and with nothing else to do, The captain found himself walking the familiar path to the sea. When he arrived, He sat in the sand for a long time, his feet in the water as the sea breeze ruffled his hair. When the sun began to set, and Mika came to the surface to see if Faye had come, she was surprised when instead she found The captain, sitting alone on the shore of their beach, without Faye. They shared an awkward greeting, Mika beaching herself next to him to ask why he had come alone, if Faye was okay. After he assured her that the Princess was fine, he was surprised when she...stayed? They sat in silence for awhile,  until somehow...He and Mika started talking, first about little stuff, and eventually even some big stuff...Even some things that he had never been able to talk about with anybody at the castle before...The two stayed at the beach until well after midnight, and when he left, the Captain somehow felt lighter then he had in quite some time.
