Real name translates loosely to Poseidon, but it's really hard to pronounce, so he went with Marshal.
He's got some singing skills, and after some training with his dad (who was magical and had him eat a magic stone), he can use Siren powers to sway people.
Siren lore:
- Solitary
- Singing powers
- Roam a lot, or have a large territory once they settle
- Only come together for the new year, and to find a mate
- Really vicious and mean
- Hoard hunt and fight trophies in certain places
- Can eat fish, usually prefer more exotic foods and mammals
- Young stay with parents till they learn how to hunt and fight
- Very strong, usually bigger than mermaids
- More into strength and hunting abilities when looking for mates
Mermaid lore:
- Stay in pods together, matriarchy
- Males either leave to join bachelor pods, or they stay if they have found a mate to raise the young together
- Very docile and friendly
- Typically stay away from sailors though
- They have a good singing voice, but nothing like a sirens
- Love pearls and shiny shells
- Eat all sorts of things, like fish, shellfish, crustaceans, coral (occasionally), kelp, basically anything in the ocean
- Hate sharks and will chase them off
- They occasionally migrate so not to over eat any fish species, but will stay in places for prolonged periods of time.
- Pods interact a lot
- Do not like sirens at ALL since sirens basically go against everything a mermaid believes in
- More into wealth and playfulness in a mate than strength or hunting skills, since they rarely fight, and have an abundance of food

- Dad was a Kalsiren
- Mom was a Kalmermaid
- He was raised with his Mom's pod for a while
- But he had some siren instincts that made him want to roam
- He was the runt, and didn't really fit in with the other kids
- Plus he loved singing and would cause accidents sometimes
- He loves his Mama, but could not STAND the elders and the rest of the pod
- His dad would visit sometimes, bringing food and gifts
- "Dad please teach me to be a siren"
- "Are you sure??? Why are you asking this now???"
- "I love mama and all, but... I don't belong here anymore."
- "I'll talk to your mother about this."
- His mom was upset, but she could see he was miserable, and let him go, asking him to come back to visit her sometime
- He was with his dad for a while, exploring the ocean, learning to hunt and fight, etc
- Eventually just split from his dad and went off on his own
- Sometimes he visits his mom, but not enough

- Loves traveling, seeing the world above ground, utterly fascinated by the customs from above the sea
- He struck a deal with a pirate ship, they would teach him about the world above, in return he helped them out
- He was still pretty small at the time, everyone calling him Ariel
- Thought he was a sweetie at first, since he was very friendly, polite, and reliable
- PSYCHE
- He was really vicious and loved playing pranks, and helped attack and subdue other ships with vigor
- They decided his nickname would be Ursula from that point on
- He got really big over time (bigger than some of the crew-mates)
- Still hangs out with the crew now that he's older, but he does go off sometimes and explores, occasionally scouting out ships to wreck

- Reliable
- Enjoys pranks, but he doesn't do anything too bad
- Loves hearing stories, will listen to anything for hours and hours, as long as it relates to the 'above'
- Birds fascinate him, has caught a lot of seagulls before, just inspecting them, not eating them
- Enjoys hoarding any shiny jewelery tossed his way
- Has a sort of residence set up at the ports the ship stops at. and at the capital
- Sunken ships filled with treasure, basically
- Loves it when people read to him from the books they have
- Will sing for the crew if asked, and if given the lyrics of popular songs will sing them
- Will do tricks for food
- Grinning 24/7
- Kinda creepy and over enthusiastic about everything

Home by pirate island:
- Ship brought to the island from one of the other nation's navy
- Was sunk a long time ago
- A lot of fish, coral, and kelp are on it
- He stores a lot of treasure and artifacts inside of it
- Lots of junk from the island he stores there
- Basically tattered clothing, broken windows, etc
- Whatever is from the above that kals don't want anymore
- Lots of fish skeletons around it
- He has some statues he commissioned from the artist on land around the ship

Mate/Girlfriend - Telantes
- Helped her set up a big library when she met the pirates
- Guided her to this little island that was pretty remote
- Took some people over to help her set up
- It's in this big cave
- Has a lot of rivers in the cave, which he swims thru
- Brings her shells and trophies a lot so she can decorate
- Lures people to the island so she can tell them their fate
- If he doesn't drown them for being evil first tho lmao
- Brings books so a magician can reverse time on them and restore them to previous glory
- Sings to her, tells her his stories
- Loves when she reads to him
- Whenever he has to go on long trips, he tells her a lot of personal things before he leaves
- When he is gone, he sends people to give her stuff
- Very fierce protector, put a lot of warning signs of danger around the island
- (Basically a bunch of skeletons of fierce monsters and carcasses strung up on rocks)
- Finds her artifacts in the ocean, or gold so she can afford to add on to the library
- A few scholars permanently live there, he's cool with them
- Got her a book so she could make prosthetic arms/chest wheelie, and a tub for him to sit in she could wheel around
- Had the magician enchant the river in a portion of the wall, so he could swim next to her
- Lots of moss, plants, and work areas in the library, with pools in it he can drag himself into
- A legend was made about them, about a Horned Fish who would lure you to an island, to be told your fate by a Four Winged Canary who came from the sky. That is, if you weren't drowned first
- A town eventually is set up near cave entrance, with mostly scholars n stuff like that (or runaways)
- Big statue in front, with many different rivers snaking throughout the town
- Statue is of the Horned Fish and the Four Winged Canary
- Lots of engravings of fish and birds throughout the town and in signs
- Mayor is one of their kids, big glorified fishbowl in the main office
- Documents have to be waterproof before they are considered legal

I may just be an overgrown fish,
And my tail goes swish swish,
But this bird I see has captured my heart,

- Really, really protective of his kids
- He was basically a helicopter parent for the first few months after they were born
- He ended up bringing a ton of food to Telantes
- MerKal instincts merged with Siren so he ends up having her mostly stay in the nest while he brings shiny objects, food, and anything he deems useful
- Kinda in a big grouchy haze
- He likes holding his kids
- Especially when they were younger
- He’d press them close to his chest and just lay down
- When he saw two of them had legs AND arms he was like “oh my god we finally did it… We made a complete kalon”
- Proud of what his kids are doing as adults
- He checks up on them a lot
- But when they were a lot older (20’s) he layed off and mostly stuck to the library and Telantes
- He stayed in the library for about 8 months and didn’t go out very far
- But then he’d take short trips to do his job
- But he would only be gone for 2 weeks at most
- And he’d bring back a lot of souvenirs
- He was a lot more vicious during this time cuz he wanted to get back home soon
- Like,, he had destroyed a lot of the bottom part of a ship by the time the pirates got to it so it was mostly underwater
- He got scolded but he didn’t care
- He makes sure Telantes is comfortable and gets enough sleep
- He lets his kids do goofy stuff but he’s lowkey watching to make sure they don’t get hurt
- Proud Juno is mayor and that the rest of his kids are doing well
- But also kinda shook cuz she basically took over a small town and nobody questioned it
- And he worries for her a lot, since she has a shorter, weaker tail, and thus is the weakest link of the family
- So he taught her a lot of dirty tricks and how to master siren powers
- Always looking for glass so Celia can get herself glasses easier
- Looks for books on magic
- Buys a lot of them from the pirates
- Makes sure the wizard and his apprentice is letting her learn
- Enjoys singing his kids to sleep naturally
- He sings them a lot of songs for fun
- Which are mostly about pirates and are seafarer songs
- But when he wants them to sleep he sings lullabies which were sung to him as a kid
- Plays with them by hiding from them with his tail
- AKA peekaboo
- Also uses the little magic tricks he’s picked up to make them laugh
- Set up a lot of stuff for them
- Like, fake kitchens, dollhouses, mini restaurants
- Became a handyman dad
- Dad jokes are everywhere with him
- Tells them bedtime stories about his adventures
- Marshal’s parents love the stories he tells about his kids
- Spoiled Telise a lot and swum with her often
- He'd take her to nearby reef's to collect things
- And taught her siren + mermaid culture if she ever wanted to find others
- Made sure she knew how to take down boats
- Proud Paloma is a pirate
- Helped make sure The Red Tide let her be, and set her up so she could be helped if she was in need
- Taught her a lot of tricks and tips on how to fight
- Made sure she got an instructor on how to battle rival ships and take them down
- Made sure she could wield a knife and a gun
- Worries about her, but he know's she's strong enough to survive
- Followed her discreetly a lot when she was younger
Pirate friend 1 - Bonnie
Stuff from her side:
- Would bring back souvenirs for Marshall after traveling or going to an exciting place so he could get a better idea of what it was like while she told the story
- Would always try to convince him to do a certain prank she thinks is cool
- Would always try to get him to let her touch his horns
- Would bring him prank supplies from out of town of he ever asked
His side:
- Would find and make bracelets in return for stories
- Would probably pester her for stories about the towns and why she likes them
- Would listen and try to remember what artistic things she liked about it so he could make them in return for stories
- Help with any and all pranks he deems worthy (nothing too nasty or mean tho)
- Wants to know everything about the outside world, and will pester her about her life
- Ask for duets when she is alone (and not around the crew) when and if he found out
- Tell her about his stories of exploring
Pirate friend 2 - Juyako
- Loves pranking him and getting into all sorts of trouble with him
- Protects him when he's in the water, or overboard
- Loves to make bets with him on anything and everything
- Enjoys listening to his stories, even if they get told too many times
- Occasionally will flick water on his face just for laughs
- "I'll give you another scar for free"
- Rescued him from navy ship, took him to pirate islands
- Still keeps up with him
Pirate friend 3 - Misifi
- Will give her stuff in return for math knowledge
- Hearing how she got all her gold makes him laugh
- Will cater to the fierce captain persona sometimes just for laughs
- Laughs at her intimidation tactics, loves to see her mess with new members
- Gives her book recommendations
