Lucille is a girl born to human parents, a phenomenon quite rare in the expanse of the Haven Plane. Her family is one of great repute. As local coven heads, they are the most reliable people in town, resolving anything from familial disputes to medical emergencies. Despite living under the spotlight of such grand responsibilities, Lucille likely will not fill in her parents’ shoes anytime soon. As the eldest sister of two more siblings, one would think she would be the one to take over the coven business when her folks retire… Unfortunately, Lucille has a unique affliction. No matter how hard she tries, she cannot cast any magic more complicated than a few sparks.

Lucille thus grew up the little darling of the village, adored but rarely respected. The villagers loved her, but even as she grew in age, she never managed to be seen as anything other than a little girl. Known to, and beloved by every auntie in town, but one thing was painfully clear: they all pitied her, the witch’s child without magic. She did chores, took care of her little brother and sister, but that was just about the extent of her responsibilities. And yet, she wanted so, so much more in life than being the errand girl, just the big sister. With no way out of such a bland existence, Lucille grew up frustrated, bitter, and a massive trouble-maker.

Against all expectations, a glimmer of hope arose in Lucille’s life. Her parents have long been aware of the turmoil of their daughter, but had thought her too young to search for the cure. By now a teenager, strong in both body and spirit, shortly after her fourteenth year, a traveling party was assembled, and Lucille was sent off on a journey to Jīndao. Though the prospect of traveling through the Uncharted Lands is by far the most exciting thing she’s done in her entire life, and as much as she is desperate for a cure, somewhere, she’s terrified it won’t go as planned…

Once, Lucille may have been a well-mannered young girl, but looking at her now, that seems highly unlikely. She is a classic ne’er-do-well and troublemaker, with a known penchant for misbehavior. Not much left to lose at this point, Lucille has no need for any reputation beyond that of the little rebel she is now. She is a hot-headed girl, fuming with frustration and boredom with her life, and takes all the freedom to let it show. Some might think it almost sad how a young lady like her is already so bitter, but if they truly cared, they would’ve stopped babying her, she’d think.

Her desire to grow up has given her a fierce attitude. Though she is indeed quite the rascal, Lucille is an incredibly brave girl, to the point of recklessness. She’s spunky, fun-loving, and sticks up for anyone who needs help. The extent to which her help is beneficial in the long term, though, remains to be seen. Despite the resentment she carries towards the adults in her life, she is dedicated and protective of the children and fellow teenagers in the village. If you’re a young person who needs someone to count on, Lucille is the big sister figure you’re looking for… Whether you’re actually younger than her or not.

[ Design Notes & Trivia ]

Lucille is a young teenage human girl of roughly 160cm tall. She has dark olive skin, and dark brown hair, tied up in a messy braid with dark blue ribbons. Her teeth are crooked, made clear by a broad grin usually stretching across her face. Her face is further characterized by dark green eyes and a round nose. She is dressed in traditional Nobaroun clothing, consisting of a blue frock, and an embroidered apron. The embroidery on her apron contains red, green, and gold colors, in flowering patterns. Along with a flax nightgown and one spare, less colorful dress, these are the only clothing she carries with her during her adventure. Her clothes get gradually more ripped and dirty as the adventure continues.

  • The dark blue ribbons on her clothes signify she is the eldest daughter of the family. Her apron has red, green, and golden embroidered detailing as well - the red indicates she is unmarried, the green indicates she is not yet of age, and the gold is to signify her family’s status in the village.
  • Her favorite food is salt-grilled fish with grilled tomatoes. She hates dairy.
  • She’s a jack-of-all-trades from all her years of picking up various chores and helping around town. Of all the things she’s helped with, she’s the best at basket-weaving.
  • She caught a carbunkle at the age of 12, and has never told a soul what she wished for upon its capture. It’s not very hard to guess, though, is it?

[ Relationships ]

Mentor/Friend

Marilou Claudi

As the serial charmer of many aunties, it's unsurprising Lucille gets along swimmingly with Marilou. She likes Marilou - the woman is smart, kind, and fun to be around, but undoubtedly incredibly reliable and by no means should be messed around with. Still, at the worry of being patronized, Lucille keeps her at some distance.

FRIEND?

Raiva Zardoul

Raiva is, next to Marilou, the one who looks after Lucille the most. Ze acts as somewhat of an inbetween of a cool aunt-uncle or a sibling to her, but explicitly establishes not a shred of peerdom between them. Lucille really looks up to Raiva, literally and figuratively, as someone who is professional, powerful, yet an absolute blast to hang out with. Still, hir indomitable attitude leaves an impression on her, and frankly, makes her a little scared...

Friend

Vitiro

Most people overlook him, and frankly, Lucille did too at first. After some time, though, Lucille finds she actually understands Vitiro quite well. The two can relate to one another, in how everyone always seems to underestimate them, no matter the effort they put in. Vitiro is the closest thing she has to a peer during this entire trek, and she'd like to stay on his good side. To her, Vitiro is much more impressive than he lets on, but only really in the realm of his abilities. Personality-wise, the guy is kind of a bore, to be honest.

Traveling companion

Ilmar

God, she's scared of this guy. He's intimidating, barely talks to her, and almost sets her on fire by accident on a regular basis. She can't get a read on Ilmar, and as someone very used to being able to gauge people's attitudes, she's really uncomfortable about it. If possible, she'd like to stay away from him.
