Profile

Backstory
Back when Olai was still young, it was mainly settled by two different families; the Kensida, and the Anarca. The Kensida had high political standing in the town, being descended from one of it's founders, but the Anarca had gained respect among others for their wide array of skills, up to and including summoning, a delicate process involving the use of demonic presence to augment one's abilities. The two most recent heirs to these fortunes, and the two main heroes of this tale, our hero, Armerane Anarca, training diligently to become summoner supreme, and Korinja Kensida, eventual leader of the town's defensive line.

After overhearing Armerane and Lunella's plans, he calmly walked out from around the corner and cleared his throat to make his preposition. If he could go with them, he wouldn't tell a soul. It was here that he planned to ride the coattails of his rival's success and ensure he'd gain proper respect. In the process, while Armerane found a seemingly demonic mask, Korinja found a bright red sword that seemed to radiate an aura only he could stand to hold. This sword seemed to change something within him. Instead of mostly staying in the sidelines until absolutely needed, he rushed to the defense of Lunella and even Armerane at a moment's notice as their journey got more perilous. It seemed like the blade had inspired true heroism within him rather than merely attempts to save face.

For a while, he seemed content with his life. However, it became apparent that this was the effect of the sword he had found. Disliking the idea of being used, he cast it away, and slowly began returning to his crude and apathetic ways. Through a long web of plotting and hatred, he ended up inadvertently causing Armerane's descent into madness, and paid the price for it with his reputation, being known amongst his surviving family as a monster; his men, many of them dying in the attempt to subdue Armerane; and his life, having his head forcibly removed and mutilated beyond the point of discernibility.

However, in death, he does not believe himself to be at fault for any of this. And so, with rage and unfulfilled desires in his heart, he rises again later on as the Vengeance of Olai, a wraith that haunts his former hometown. He remains this way for quite a while before Terrandus and Saiyel are able to convince him to move on of his own accord by granting him lucidity and accepting his tutoring. Expecting a reward for his suffering... He instead finds judgement for his sins.

But...
There is another ending to his story. In another time, another world, he did not retain the form of a wraith when he first attempted it. Instead, feeling the process was very wrong, he attempted to reach out through dreams, trying to warn people but letting his temper get the better of him before delivering his message. In time, he met a being from another world, known as King Desiderius. Though they traveled through a strange dreamscape together, tensions grew as he remembered more of why he was there. His anger at his situation flared, and he took the form he had so despised, right before Desiderius' eyes.

Before he could lash out, however, he regained a hold of himself, and realized that his form terrified his new companion for reasons far worse than just being a violent phantom. Feeling truly lucid for the first time in a while, Korinja did all he could to reassure Desiderius he meant no harm. The two reconciled over further elaboration of eachother's problems, offering support to one another. It was the first time the spirit had felt at ease. As if the weight on his mind had been lifted talking with him. As the two met within their dreams more and more, Desiderius made him an offer: he would grant Korinja a body in the waking world for him to inhabit so that they may spend more time together.

Though he offered several ideas, the process of operating a complex vessel required Korinja to nearly lose himself to his old wounds operate them. In time, they settled on a small, crescent-shaped knife. As aware of the irony as Korinja was, becoming a possessed blade allowed him the freedom of thought a more complex one would deprive him of. Though his ability to interact with the world is tethered to a limited range within it, he doesn't mind much. For the first time in a while, Korinja was happy.
