Biography

About 4 years ago, the DARPA labratories experimented by combining the magical a golem with a robot. A golem can know and do things instinctively, but can't learn, and a computer can learn but has no instinct. By combining both, DARPA hoped to create a mindless soldier that could fight on par with a human soldier. The creation was Aries, who was a prototype. While initially thought to just be an intelligent golem, Aries eventually showed signs of sapience, and even awoke as a magic user. The surprising success led to DARPA creating 11 more, observing them, and eventually loaning them to the FBI as new agents.

Capricorn was one of these robots. She was assigned as a trainee to an FBI agent as she learned the ropes, then was switched into becoming the rookie Lydia's senior partner. Capricorn feels weird about this path, because its not one she chose. Despite her calculative ability, she's not sure what the right path is for herself. Compounding this is the fact that, on one hand, she wants to asset her free will, but on the other hand, she really genuinely does enjoy being an FBI agent.

Relationships

Lydia

Capricorn has grown to admire Lydia in many ways. Her surefootedness in life, her unwavering sense of morality... and yet even though she knows Lydia likes her, she wants Lydia to truly appreciate her wide range of emotions and isn't sure how best to express them. Eventually though, she does, and Lydia even marries her.
Gaku

Gaku's personality conflicts with Capricorn in some ways. He's wild and undisciplined and he does things that don't make sense to her, and yet as time passes he manages to succeed despite never seeming to think. Her ability to calculate possibilities doesn't cover "instinct" or "just feeling your way around" and it becomes something she learns with great difficulty, and that's when she learns to respect him.

Trivia

In-Game Fighting Style

  • She's not a Capricorn.
  • She is asexual, but panromantic.
  • The only "involuntary" show of emotion she ever does is when she overheats a little (whenever she's overthinking, or especially flustered), causing a burst of steam from beneath her chin.
  • If you were to disable the robotic half of her brain via an electromagnetic pulse, she would temporarily lose all intelligence. She would behave exactly like a golem, capable of movement and obeying instructions, but could not make informed decisions or complex plans. She'd also be incapable of casting her spells.
  • Inversely, if you disable the golem half of her brain via antimagic or just by disconnecting it, she loses her capability of higher thought and instinct. While she'd still be capable of processing information really fast, she's essentially lobotomized. Plus, her movement is controlled by the golem half of her brain, so she could not walk or act other than pre-coded movements. Again, she'd be incapable of magic.
  • There's an emergency remote switch to disconnect the golem half of her brain from the robot half.
  • For about a year after she was built, she didnt have proper "emoting" software so her facial expressions were all uncanny valley, even through glamors. She can shut down this software at will tho to unnerve people.
  • Despite how she does not like being treated as a robot, she makes a lot of robot jokes.
  • Capricorn does not feel pain, but feels sensation in every part of her body. She's aware of the electricity running through her wires, and can feel it when someone touches her hair.
  • Capricorn displays autistic traits, and is the only one of her kind to do so, which has suggested to her creators that autism is a part of one's soul, not one's brain.

Capricorn is a bursty spellcaster, with a strong focus on magic. She's more survivable than other casters, despite her incredibly low HP, thanks to surprisingly good Defense, and amongst the strongest Magic Resist stats in the game. Her single target damage is lacking, but she has numerous area of effect attacks to wear down crowds, as well as a few debuffs to shred enemy armor.

Capricorn promotes to Demolitionist and Terminator, to choose between even more AOE and more reliable debuffs, or some much needed single-target shutdown plus additional survivability.
