Summary

Yuta lived a normal childhood, besides the occasional escapade to a non-gifted city every now and then. His family's specialty was in disguising themselves in these to obtain goods, a dangerous task that eventually led to them being captured by Academy Officers. His younger brother managed to escape unseen as his parents distracted the officers, but Yuta wasn't as lucky. They shipped them off to one of the recruitment facilities meant to test their strengths. He was with his family there for about a year - put under strenuous exercises with penalities if they disobeyed. Regardless, Yuta was resilient enough to power through it, and believed they could find an escape - especially with the Resistance nipping at the Academy's heel.

At one point, a group of recruits - including his family - were called to the conference room at the behest of the Academy Commander. Initially, Yuta was worried, along with the rest of the participants chosen. The brunette woman at the conference, however, had creaked a small smile, and said they had nothing to worry about - that everything would be fine. They just wanted to enlist them in a little experiment, nothing more. Things weren't looking so bad after all, until his whole world went black.

When Yuta wakes, he wakes in an unfamiliar world only to learn that five years has passed, and that he had been the only person to date to break out of a formidable Gifted's mind control spell. His younger brother has seemingly been recruited by the Academy, now a bitter young man pushing his older brother away with strong a distrust. Further still, he hears rumours of an Academy recruit who has gone MIA - a Gifted, they say, who had been a menace on the battlefield with teleporting powers and an axe, who had slain a Resistance soldier. As confusing as this new world is, Yuta's task is clear: to make sense of it, and try to chase after whatever family he has left.
