About

Clever • Brave • Serious • Self-sacrificing • Jaded • Resentful

In a Nutshell: A brave yet jaded woman who fights with a rebel group for the rights of the Gifted: people born with innate magic.

You thought it was always you who needed the saving, but now you see that isn’t the case.

He stands in front of you, voice dripping with venom. He has become toxic - just like everything you’re fighting against, and just like the enemy. Your hatred of them grows stronger - all this, for monetary gain that will disappear with the ages. But your anger doesn’t change the facts. In front of you is yet another person who broke from the pressure, but this time, one you can’t ignore. He tells you you’re a fool and you don’t even try to blink your eyes in surprise. Maybe he’s right.

But no matter what, you know you have to find it - the cure to all cures, enough to heal what they've done to you both..

"I guess if I had to tell my story, it would start with a lucky girl in an unlucky town."

Summary

Kura was adopted by a family in a gifted shantytown named Ivywood, after being found at the door of the nearest orphanage. This was common in towns like these - oftentimes, some parents would abandon their children out of fear of being exposed to the public, where the town residents - normally Gifted in hiding - would take up the reins. She didn’t have many friends until she met Kei, who became her closest companion. He was the first to befriend the orphan girl, and the two often spent their days playing together as children. However, they had strayed to the forest outskirts on a dare, where Academy Officers had been patrolling that day. Kura was almost caught, had Kei not pushed her out of the way to prevent them from conscripting her. While his plan succeeded, he was taken away instead.

After that point, Kura became much more secretive and guarded, though the event that had happened in her youth - combined with the burning of her hometown by the Academy a few years later - left her with a strong desire to render justice. She would go on to join a band of freedom fighters, and become one of the most notable warriors in the Resistance. Her temporary power to boost the good fortune of her comrades has helped immensely in battle, though it can never be used for long-term gain. In addition to this, Kura herself seems to be blessed with luck in her day-to-day life - but it seems to have only added to her closing herself off further, as she watches the people around her disappear while she's left as the fortunate one. Despite her accomplishments, however, she still has a long way to go, and everything changes when she runs into an old friend turned renegade...

Kei

Love interest. Former friend turned enemy, Kei fights on the opposite side of Kura in siding with the Academy, though not by choice. Kura's childhood friend has changed much since their last meeting about half a decade ago - for one, he's grown to be cold and callous, and for two, she can't recall a single time she saw him smile. The reemergence of her old friend after such a long period of time finally causes Kura to open up and begin to care again. As she's trying to find a way to save Kei from himself, she also begins to long for a sense of normality, a life that she's never known. As time progresses, the two realize they have only each other to confide in, a temporary escape from their harsh reality.

Amir

Kura's close friend in the Resistance. To many outsiders, their friendship seems like an unlikely one due to their opposite personalities - Amir being an energetic extrovert, with Kura being a secretive introvert. Despite this, they make a good balance: Amir's social, yet gentle nature makes Kura feel more willing to talk, and on the other side, Kura's cool demeanor seems to calm him. Their equally marred pasts due to the Academy's antics have also given them both shared experiences and shared goals that they hope to rectify in allying with the Resistance. They often train together to hone their skills, as well as discover new music together - whether it be online or sneaking out to Hart City to blend in at a concert.

Tamika

Kura's half sister, and an infamous assassin of the organization Dragon's Fang. Kura tries to let herself warm up to her, and for a period of time it works - both sharing an interest in strategy games, and Kura symphasizing with Tamika's loneliness. Her fairly vocal beliefs towards potential Gifted freedom, however, makes her second-guess herself. Eventually, Kura draws the line to protect Kei, as the Dragon's Fang has unfavourable attitudes towards those conscripted by the Academy in general. At some point of time, the two come to some kind of familial resolution.

Mercury

Kura's squadmate in the Resistance. She makes an effort to take Kura to various outings in the city to have her 'lighten up' - and interestingly, it always results in a faint smile from the normally stoic warrior. Mercury is curious about her very secretive nature about her past in particular, but doesn't push her too much to find out. Kura, on the other hand, appreciates the time Mercury takes to acquaint her with normal, city life, though she's absolutely abysmal at showing it. The times she spends with Mercury - similar to times with Amir - are times she becomes a little more talkative, and can forget about the clashes going on between Gifted and Non-Gifted peoples - at least for now. Mercury always jokes that one day they'll share a bottle of champagne after a victory to really let Kura 'get loose'.

Cole

Kura's squadmate in the Resistance. Kura and Cole's ideologies can clash at times, but Kura is one of the few who always listens to his plans even in the heat of battle, where a loss seems likely. This has saved their team on more than one occasion. Outside of work, Kura and Cole often play games of chess for friendly bonding. Kura also understands when to not push Cole - as he can be very secretive about his feelings, not expressing them often. Similarly, Cole respects Kura. Though they have differing opinions on the case of a certain Academy Officer, he takes her wishes into account only because of their friendship.
