Information

“You won’t lose me,” Rowan answered and smiled. “I’m too stubborn to die.”

A man who lost his entire family to a disease, Rowan was taken in by the mysterious Daniel to become a servant to his family. Growing up alongside Daniel and becoming his personal servant, it took Rowan years to realize he had been taken into a family consisting of nothing but vampires. However, despite this, Rowan continued serving his master and best friend, and eventually the two became lovers. Finally, Rowan joins the family as a vampire himself.

*Rowan is a character originally created for Taros, but he appears in other world settings as well, most notably in Enhyria as a servant to a vampire family and later as a vampire. Rowan doesn’t differ much in personality and behavior in these two settings: in both he is very kind and trustworthy, and has an extremely good sense of other people’s emotions and feelings. However, he is also very nervous and anxious, and his sense of self worth can be very low at times.

As Rowan has two main stories he is featured in and some of the elements are not the same, he has been given two separate character bios. Rowan is considered a dead character in Taros while in Enhyria his death has not been disclosed as of yet. Enhyria Rowan is currently the one I’m focusing more on, but both of his versions are still fundamentally the same with only small story-related differences.

Appearance

As child Rowan is seen as short and with an average but stronger-leaning build, short red hair and freckles. He is usually portrayed in his training clothes and he often carries a wooden shield or a practice sword with him as part of his training.

From then on Rowan is usually portrayed as a young adult or an adult with large shoulders and strong but still somewhat lean built. His body shape strongly resembles a triangle. He has a messy dark red hair, slightly tanned skin as a result of him spending a lot time outside and freckles covering his face, shoulders, a good part of his back and also his arms. He has a strong featured and somewhat large nose, average sized but somewhat bushy red eyebrows and green eyes. Due to his job as a knight, Rowan has a well toned and muscular body, emphasis especially on his chest and arms as a result of handling a sword.

Rowan has a preference for simple and practical clothes, and as he comes from north, his winter clothes usually involve fur, most often on cloak hoods or shoulders. He also dons a simple armor that allows him to move freely.

Personality

A good-natured and kind but also very nervous, Rowan is a vampire that once used to be a human. As such, he has been raised with human values and ideals, and they do not always go hand-in-hand with the values of nearly-immortal vampires. However, although Rowan values goodness and justice, he knows better than to go one-on-one against the values of other people, and he prefers to either discuss about these things or simply just adjust himself.

Rowan is socially extremely skilled and reads people easily by their expressions, gestures and even by the tone of voice they use. Together with Daniel, who in turn has a way with words, he and Rowan make an extremely powerful and dangerous combination when working together. He is a good listener and even better at reassuring and cheering people up, as well as making them feel appreciated. He feels like it’s his personal mission to provide emotional support to others, as it somehow makes him feel more brave and confident as well. Although certain nervousness and anxiety characterize Rowan, he has a very good grasp of his own emotions and is also in touch with them - which helps him a lot when dealing with the less emotionally balanced Daniel.

Daniel, who eventually becomes his partner, has an important part in Rowan’s life as the two grew up together and their relationship went from master and servant to best friends, and eventually to lovers. As such, those two have learned to live trusting and balancing each other, and they often prefer working together. Although they also have their own disagreements and fights, neither of them can stay mad for long, and they usually make up fast. Their good, honest and respectful communication is the key to their relationship.

History

Much like his Taros counterpart, Rowan lost first his parents to an illness and he was then taken in by his uncle’s family, who started training him to become a servant and a swordsman as it was traditional to their family. As result, Rowan had servant and swordsman training from very early on, and he learned fast as his relatives were able to teach him personally. However, eventually Rowan would lose this family as well to the very same illness that took his parents, and suddenly he found himself without a home. Because Rowan didn’t want to go to an orphanage due to the bad conditions, he was ready to freeze himself to death by sitting on his family’s grave. However, that night a mysterious boy appeared in the graveyard and made Rowan understand he doesn’t actually want to die. The boy offered Rowan a chance to become his servant if he followed the boy right now, and considering Rowan had nothing to lose anymore, he eventually decided to take the risk and joined the mysterious boy.

Rowan was taken to another city entirely, and from there he became a servant for the mysterious Dianes family that lived in the woods. Rowan got very used to the life of a servant - after all, this was what he had been trained to do. He would soon get used to the eccentric life style of the family where majority of the family members preferred sleeping days and waking up during evenings, then proceeding to stay up the whole night. Rowan didn’t question this and he didn’t ask anything that would have been out of his place: he was just grateful to have a place where to live.

He became friends with the mysterious boy - Daniel, whose personal servant he also was. He also met a girl from another country called Anna, who often spent summers in the Dianes mansion. Daniel and Anna were homeschooled, but Rowan continued in a public school in the nearest town, and there he was also able to continue his swordsman and servant studies under an old knight and his own servants.

Only when Daniel became old enough to drink blood Rowan realized he had been serving a family of vampires all this time. However, he had learned to love the family and Daniel especially so much it didn’t take him long to accept the fact, and he would soon devote himself to Daniel’s blood drinking whenever the vampire was too weak to hunt on his own.

As their relationship got more serious, Daniel and Rowan made the decision to turn Rowan into a vampire as well despite the many possible and very real risks.

Trivia

  • Rowan is a character I have been developing since early 2014, but whose character is so tied to stories I write I can’t possibly get it all written in his bio in one sitting. This is why his bio is probably going to remain incomplete for quite a while and I’ll add more things with time.

  • Before Rowan’s parents died, he a got a little tooth pendant from his father as a birthday present. Regardless if it’s Taros or Enhyria Rowan, he almost always keeps it on his neck, safely tucked under the shirt to keep it closer to his heart.

  • Rowan was born in a leap year. People tend to tease him about it.

  • Can’t stand insults especially if they are about the people he cares about, and he can get surprisingly hot-headed about them.

  • Death is a sensitive subject especially to Taros Rowan, and although he understands death is part of his job as a knight, it’s not something he prefers thinking too much about.

  • Often feels anxious if he has to stay indoors for too long. He finds nature really calming (especially if he knows the area is safe) and he loves snow and winter.

  • Especially Taros Rowan used to suffer from violent panic attacks as a child. As an adult both Enhyria and Taros Rowan have gotten them in control for the most part, but Rowan remains as somewhat nervous individual despite that and he worries a lot.
