Profile
Young, low-class elemental, lucky enough to be attending the most prestigious academy their kind has. Or "lucky," as it were, that his parents supported his dreams and were able to save up to send him there... Elegyians support the material world below with their magic but only chosen few can become true Patrons that travel back and forth and enact tangible change. Graduates of this academy earn their wings (and subsequently, the majority of their magic potential) through study and nearly always graduate into Patronhood.
Ad Astra has not gotten his wings. He's a stellar student and he's incredibly good at magic for his age and ability and yet nothing has happened, despite many perfect opportunities and several of his classmates having manifested theirs early. He's aware everyone assumes its because he's a ~commoner~ and not worthy but he knows there's no difference between them aside from privilege and this has been his dream forever and its so, so frustrating. During his culminating exam of his second to last year, more and more distressed after every minute passes, Astra's worst fears break through and he earns horns instead. One of the Academy's own, designated a Horned, society's disrespected and shunned, in the middle of an arena with what feels like the whole world watching...
His life is ruined. He’s already worked twice as hard as his classmates to prove a nobody from the slums could keep up with them and that he’s worth the academy’s time. It takes his best friend Vox Tenebris to convince him he’s stronger than this, reminding him he hasn’t given up in the face of this shit before. The academy has no grounds to kick him out and so he stays - he’s not even sure he has a point to make anymore but he’s come this far and put in this much work. He’s got literally everything to lose and Vox is right; he’s never been a quitter and he isn't about to start now.
Ad Astra is headstrong and driven. He's a reliable friend but can tend to put himself first unintentionally. A little rambunctious, very confident, good at making friends but not afraid to speak his mind and it can put some people off.

Species - Elegyians
Fae-like elementals, elegyians are a reclusive race with peculiar magic abilities. Each elegyian is born with an acute elemental affinity, allowing them a small range of innate magic power. Most remain that way their entire lives, but with focus and effort, they can hone their powers to a peak and "evolve," sprouting either wings or horns and gaining a spectacular array of abilities.
Elegyians have boldly patterned skin based on their elements and all sport pointed ears and tufted tails. Those with horns grow spines on their tails, and those with wings have rings around them instead.
