Li FengYao belongs to the powerful clan Li. The clan is very well-known for forming the best guards. With this reputation, the family gained influence among the nobility. Although their rank in court is quite low and do not participate in politics, the royal family has always been wary of them but also request their services. There is a tradition in the clan that once a child turns 14, they would have to go undercover and serve a specific master. Of course, the master would not know that they are from the Li clan, just that they are skilled in martial arts. At 18, they could leave their position and return to the family if they wanted to. If they decided to stay with their master, then their identity would be revealed so that their master would be better to them. One of their best selling points is that the members of the Li Clan all had an extremely acute sense of smell. Sometimes, they were called the search dogs because of it.
Li FengYao was no exception to this rule. At 14, she was assigned to be one of the personal maids for the young master of the Qin family, a prominent and influential merchant family in the capital that had gotten rank promotion because of their success. Being young and never experienced the outside world, LFY fell in love with the young master of the Qin family, Qin FuMing. Qin FuMing was bright even at a young age, he learned quickly and was as shrewd as his father when it came to business. This quality of him attracted LFY. QFM was young, good looking, promising, and above all, he had a good standing. The only fault of his would be his narcissism. Because he was always praised, he started to think that he was better than everyone else from his generation. He also did not have much empathy for other people. He considered underlings as his slaves, potential business partners as trash that wanted to benefit from him, and women as merely playthings that could give birth to his offspring. Since QFM was good at reading people, he noticed that LFY had feelings for him. With sweet words and some gifts, LFY was under the impression that the young master was interested in her and gave her all for him. It was not until her 18th birthday that she knew that QFM was soon to be married and that he had many side mistresses, one of those mistresses was already pregnant with a child of his! Feeling betrayed and disappointed in herself for not realizing sooner, LFY wanted out. However, she went to ask QFM what he really thought about her. He merely answered that she was a good pastime while he was in the house, where he was controlled by his parents and could not play around. With a broken heart, LFY swore in her heart that she would never do a mistake like that again.
However, she did not leave soon enough. When she returned to her family, she discovered that she was pregnant. The Li clan was not as conservative as other families and did not berate her for losing her innocence before marriage. LFY was not sure about her pregnancy. On one hand, the father of the child was from a man that she detested, on the other, she didn't want to part with the small live that was in her belly. After being persuaded by her family, she decided to keep the child, who she would later name Li Chen.
Now that she had a child, she could not keep on being dependent on her family. Against the wishes of her parents, she decided to take a high risk high reward job that took the least amount of time, so that she would be able to spend more time with her son: Assassination. She kept on this lifestyle until Li Chen was 7 years when QFM went to personally search for her. After all that she had been through, she had matured. Although she no longer blamed QFM for everything, she still resented him for taking away her youth. When she saw QFM again, she realized that the man standing in front of her no longer had that aura of superiority and looked much more sturdy. QFM wanted to take both of them back again. After LFY left, his life was not smooth sailing. One of his concubines got so jealous that she poisoned him to be childless the rest of his life. The child that another of his concubines gave birth to had complications and died shortly after being born. Although he had power and influence, what was the point if there was no future generation that could continue and live off his work? He was almost defeated, but one stroke of luck lead him to search for LFY and the son she had after she left. The reason why he did not doubt that LC was his son was because LC looked exactly like him when he was younger, given, his hair looked more like his mother's. QFM wanted to bring back both and make LC his official heir but LFY rejected him. It was not until QFM had told her that LC would be the next heir and that he would not experience a harsh life that she reluctantly accepted. She did not want for her son to go on her bloody path. She also knew that LC was quite bright and that he would get a lot from QFM.
With so many things that happened in the past and then in the present. They will have to spend more and more time together. The mystery would remain whether feelings will blossom from then on or if both will be unhappy to the very end. After all, nothing is set in stone: he changed, she changed, their circumstances have also aligned.
Present AU! Still a WIP
Li FengYao comes from a wealthy and somewhat influential family. Although pretty lowkey in recent days, their members are known for being successful in their lives. LFY was married young, when she was still in her undergraduate years, to Qin FuMing. They had dated since their high school days and decided that the future would not change much. However, this resulted in it being quite the mess. When LFY was pregnant, QFM's infidelity was discovered. Regretting her decision of marrying so young, LFY thought that they were not the same as before. Although she had him in her heart, she doubted that he felt the same way as her. She was also no push over, so she filed for divorce. QFM had nothing to lose from this arrangement and he would be free again: no sneaking around behind his wife's back. However, QFM did not know that at that point, LFY was already pregnant with their child.
LFY had been a housewife for a year after finishing her undergraduate and when she was living with QFM, however, with her marks, it was really a pity that she did not continue to further her education. This is why she decided to go back to school and get into Law school. Although it would be hard since she was also pregnant, she was a very strong individual. She wanted to succeed.
The years passed and LFY had graduated from Law School and her ability as a court lawyer was recognized by her professors. She was given a letter of recommendation to join a law firm created just recently by the friends of her professor. Slowly, she became more and more recognized for her efforts and hard-working personality. Li Cheng, LFY's son, also frequented the firm from time to time when there was no one to take care of him. LC became the little ray of sunshine in such a gray environment, lifting everyone's spirit. It would not be an exaggeration to say that all the workers there would do anything for him. Not only was he cute, but he was also very obedient and lovable. No adult could resist not spoiling him, which was a great mystery how LC's personality was not of a spoiled kid.
During one of the charity events that was held by another law firm that they had good relations with, LFY was invited. It was not her first time going to these kind of events, so she had not trouble blending in the environment. During an intermission, she had gone out to take some fresh air and get away from the crowd. Just when she sat down on a bench, she heard crying and the sound of loud and fast footsteps. She looked over at the sound and saw that a beautiful woman in her mid twenties was running while covering her tear-stained face. The woman did not appear to have noticed her because she did not even stop. While looking at the retreating back of the woman, LFY heard the sound of footsteps from the direction that the woman had ran from. LFY turned her head to meet with the mysterious person, only to find that it was QFM. Both stared at each other from some time, believing that such a coincidence after seven years of not seeing each other. LFY thought that when she saw him again, she would feel disappointment and anger like she felt when they had divorced, but to her surprise, she felt nothing now. QFM was no longer part of her life, and she liked that. She stood from her bench, made a small gesture of greetings and went her way back to the ballroom. A few minutes later, she could see that QFM had entered the same room as her and had looked at her direction before going back to his seat near a group of influential businessmen. During the intermission, there was an event that would require couples to dance and that would lift the spirit of the party. It was also highly encouraged to find a different person to choose at your partner so that they could stablish a relationship. Before LFY could stand up, QFM came over her and asked her for a dance. She had lost her youth already, but there was such a mature and noble aura around her that could easily attract the eyes of others. LFY looked at him and merely smiled before turning around and asking another person for a dance, leaving QFM hanging. She knew that although she felt nothing else from him right now, she still could not forgive him this easily.
However, her luck would change when she would encounter him again and again in the future. He would even demand to have LC back since he was his son too! With such a tangled relationship, there may or may not be progress in this stagnant relationship.
