Thoughts on my OC, thoughts on yours

Posted 1 month, 15 days ago (Edited 1 month, 2 days ago) by Auralina33

This post was originally exclusively for Player, but I'm now adding in the characters in this folder because I just uploaded them and I'm proud of them!

Simple and easy! Not making this a proper comment for comment, headcanon for headcanon, etc thread because I'm just coming back from a period of bad burnout and want to make sure I don't overwhelm myself and can keep up with it at least for a bit.

But yeah! Give me some words on my guy and I'll give you some words on yours.

I'd prefer if you also read Player's about tab rather than only the main one!

Rook Pawn Fool flatworld

will be real im not too big on 4th wall aware characters but you executed this VERY well. i like how the player establishes not only  aconnection between the real world and your stories, but also a connection between the different canons. its very well thought out and rounded. i also like their outfit a lot and how you incorporate video game terminology into it. i wonder if they ever get tired of existing in video games or if they even want to know what the 'real' world is like. has it happened that someone from the real world has grown to resent them? also, why are they scared that someone might resent them? and are there any other 4th wall aware beings in this universe?

id love to hear your thoughts on rook

Thank you! Truth be told, I'm not actually all into them either, which is part of why Player is an isolated thing rather than actually canon to my worldbuilding. They were kind of created to mess around and have fun with my friends, and I got attached because he served her purpose quite well. I'm also glad you like the design!

Player is generally fine the way they exist, outside of sometimes starting to get bored. He worries that real people may stop liking her primarily because they're at a weird spot where they embody two of my characters who people have WILDLY differing opinions on, and technically had a hand on the actions of one of my antagonists. His shimeji are just as fourth wall aware as her, and some characters will immediately adjust to being fourth wall aware when brought in!

No need to respond to this, I just wanted to answer everything, thanks for your thoughts!

AND ROOK IS REALLY INTERESTING HONESTLY... Definitely not what I expected, but I think he's really neat for the type of worldbuilding he seems to work with! The fact that he changes so drastically depending on which door it is, and the way his personality stays generally consistent in vibes so that you still have reason to call that the same person, is really neat. I love how the ghosts are used in the left door as a significant factor on why he can't fulfill his fantasies, and I just think that the way all those characters keep popping up is intriguing. Curious about why he calls that little girl The Elephant.

For his right door appearance, it seems like you're touching on some mental health topics, and it's at least interesting how you utilize them at least partly to explain why he is the way he is, without a support system or anyone to help him get any better, and without any willingness to let anyone new do so. His relationship with Falco intrigues me with the way you portray it as being mutually unhelpful and harmful, and I think the way he sees other people is interesting, as well as the fact he's capable of being kinder but doesn't do it often.

Mann, the player is super interesting!! I haven’t seen many 4th wall breaking characters around, so I find the concept to be really fun and full of potential. The way you did his profile is also really cool, the chat format is a great way of providing subtle characterization I think. I especially liked how you had her acknowledge the existence of the ‘about’ tab lol, such a good way to redirect people toward it. Their design is also really fun, I feel like I don’t see yellow themed characters super often and their simplicity is effective but appealing to look at

Thank you so much!! It makes me happy that people enjoy how I handled the concept, and that the profile seems cool. And I really tried my best with the design! Each version of this character has a tie to the color yellow/gold in some way, so I did my best to incorporate it here

Also, so, I actually am surprised at how much I like Watches! She's really well-written, and I particularly love how you portray her as an autistic person, it doesn't feel tacked on, it doesn't feel stereotypical, it seems like a very genuine perspective and writing of neurodivergency and that always makes me so happy to see, especially with how her autistic traits and social struggles are presented as part of who she is, and sometimes getting in the way, but not necessarily a flaw of hers.

I really like how in-depth you went into on this profile, too! Once I got engaged, it was an incredibly fun read. From being told right off the bat that she's not a great person and uses her magic in pretty horrible ways, but then be shown all the redeeming traits she has, she seems like a very well-balanced character, yet none of it feels like it's flat or out of character. Her relationship with her wives seems so sweet, and I think it's interesting the way her climb into the positions she currently has and the pros and cons these positions have are presented. She also just seems to have a really neat and entertaining to read about personality, not exactly over the top, but with enough going on that I could see her in a lot of situations without it being boring.

I also love her design! The general black and gray color palette with the small pops of bright colors actually work surprisingly well, and do a great job at drawing the eye through her design effectively without being overwhelming. Just a really neat character!

aah thank you so much!! your comment is so thorough and sweet and I'm so glad you like watches, I've put a lot of time and thought into her <33 I'm esp glad her being autistic comes across well, I've done my best to make her a realistic depiction

"Agent" AbsolutelyHuman

OKAY first of all i love the little popup windows on their profile. Having characters that represent a player/user in a game is always very cool because you can put so many twists on it and they're never the same.  The yellow digital theme looks super cool and the layout and font reminds me a lot of python programming, especially the about tab. I love that they jump between games, that is a really nice explanation for having an out-of-universe character. And personally when i read the bio i really want to know what the mentioned games/savefiles/routes are about, and i think this is a super creative way of putting it. I'm especially curious about Security Is In Place: HEARTBREAKER and Valentine Lovett. Can they only travel between certain games or literally anything? And the little chat section in the main profile is absolutely adorable and gives you a really good idea of the characters personalities and relationships despite not being a lot of text. This might just be personal preference but i also really like the design, especially the coat, all the warm colours go together really nicely and the player is not too detailed which i think fits their role as "protagonist" as those are characters meant to be projected onto by players. And the little play-button on the lapel is super creative, as well as the "save" text on the shoes. Also love how they're androgynous but still have long hair.

Sorry this is a little messy i was typing it while reading

You can either do IC or anyone in this folder

Chief Weapons Engineer, Kajj (Elder Kajj (Vincam)) squidlykitten

Ooo, The Player really does have an interesting profile code, as AbsolutelyHuman mentioned above.

I think they are pretty nifty! I like the idea of the player character sort of taking on their own power and role rather than just allowing themselves to be the puppet of the outside world. It's an interesting take on the nature of video games -- I'm always interested in stories that do something like that, such as OFF or Undertale. It forces you to consider your actions within the game as if you are truly effecting a world rather than poking at a story to see how it reacts. It's interesting that she is afraid of the security -- are they perhaps worried that they will be erased from the game or to have his control revoked? I do also like that they are yellow, even though that's traditionally the "Player 3" character color. To me, that helps to show that they have taken control of their own narrative and reached outside of their original roles as they travel from game to game.

Kajj is my favorite OC at the moment, though there's a ton of other characters in that story worth looking at. He's honestly not even the main character, Teema is. And I haven't even started on filling out her profile, oops. He started as an OC in a fandom RP I was doing with an ex-friend and now there's just... so much ahahahaha. I have a world building disease.

Auralina33

AbsolutelyHuman Thank you so much!! Yeah, I just wanted to make this guy an overall fun concept to just play with and I also had fun with the design. The mentioned games/save files are all my stories, both ones I've made all by myself and ones shared with my friends! Security Is In Place is one of them, and Heartbreaker is basically the "evil route" so to say, Deltarune Weird Route style. Valentine is the main antagonist of this "game" and she freaks Player out.

AND SO, OKAY... I really like Agent? He seems like a very interesting take on the "secret monster hunter agent" and it's interesting to see. I also like the information on his mutations and backstory, and how it's both fun and interesting but also well-balanced and limited, and for his backstory, how intriguing it is with all the questions it brings.

I think his demeanor is interesting, he seems stand-offish but I don't get the vibe that he'd be a mean character? He seems like he'd be relatively nice, just professional and maybe unwilling to show his insecurities. Also, his specialties are super fun, I don't think I've seen many monster hunter characters whose Big Ability is just to be really good at predicting their marks' behavior, but it does sound like it'd genuinely be really useful.

Also, I really like his design! It's just detailed enough, and it really does give me that action movie or show vibe, he looks like he'd be perfect to cosplay or see in live action.

Auralina33

squidlykitten Thank you, I'm glad!! I looove messing around with videogame settings and the nature of videogames, even if I don't always like to make them exactly self-aware. I also elaborated a little bit on your question above, but for further context, the Security Is In Place character that Player is scared of, Valentine, is both the antagonist to the character they're most connected to, and also just generally off-putting and a stalker, which manages to skeeve them out.

So, aliens are not usually my thing, but I do like Kajj's design quite a lot! The color palette fits itself really well, and his outfit manages to give off the right vibe without being too simplified.

It's interesting how he doesn't trust the political figures around him, and very realistic, plus the way Mother's death has affected him and his wish to find the Daughter to ensure there's still a future for his people gives off an almost melancholic feeling. Also I think he's in general portrayed in a quite grounded way, with him becoming less brash and more reserved due to age and tragedy, but that brashness still existing in strong emotional reactions due to him trying to bottle everything up, I think I haven't seen a lot of characters who are depicted in such a nuanced way, it's usually either one or the other or going from one side to the other.

Also, I just think it's really fun how you took the time to elaborate on his likes and dislikes, a lot of codes don't allow for that but it's a really fun insight to his character to see why he likes or doesn't like something. Same for elaborating on his tokens! Just a really neat look into his life and his inner world, I think.

He also seems like he'd be quite well-balanced in combat, which isn't a small feat when trying to write characters who are supposed to be strong sometimes. Like, he seems like he'd be a tough foe, but not an OP one. I especially like the war song detail, that's genuinely such a cool use of a feature on an alien race and the typical war cry or war horn.

My attention span hasn't been great these past few days (Also why it took me a while to get to you both), but I may come back to read his profile more in-depth sometime. I can tell you put a lot of work into him!

Kado Toshiaki Rakeish

HOLY MOLY I LOVE SOLEIL AND LUNE'S DESIGNS THEYRE SUCH GOOD CONCEPTS TOO!! I love how they're sun/moon themed and that their last name is Celeste that means "heavenly"... I can see that the theme is things in the sky.. and their colors go so well together!! Soleil's main colors being yellow but also having a sunset-y/colorful vibe makes him so satisfying to look at <3 The glowing freckles make so much sense and the sparkles in their hair look SO COOL. AS FOR LUNE!! THE PATTERN ON HIS PANTS IS SOOO!!! SOOO!!! /pos The color scheme is perfect, and I really love how dominant the color blue is!! It really fits his demeanor... (goes for Soleil too) IT'S SO SATISFYING TO LOOK AT THE PICTURE WITH BOTH OF EM!! I wanna squeeze them in my hands /pos

IC or anybody in my account that isn't in the unsorted category is fine!!

Auralina33

Rakeish finally getting around to this!

Thank you SO much, I tried my best with Soleil and Lune's designs and all of the aesthetics regarding them, so it makes me happy that people like them!

Okay, so I actually love Kado? He seems like an actually quite fun and enjoyable to see character, both being realistically a bit annoying and troublesome as teenagers tend to be, but with it not being demonized nor him being looked down on for it. He presents himself as full of confidence and mischief and he's allowed to do so, which I think is super nice.

I also think his relationships with his family and friends are very interesting! You can tell that, despite it all, he really does love the people who care for him a lot, and that's so sweet. I especially love how him being adopted is portrayed, and it makes me very intrigued about his background and what caused all of those very specific dislikes he has and why his parents are spoken about so negatively, because I bet there's a good reason.

Also his design is just really nice! The black and white contrast is so well done, and the use of four color rainbows is both unique and helps draw in the eye! Overall, just a really good character.

PuppiDogz

Okay, I’ve gotta talk about the visitant , such a cool character

For one, I think her overall design just works really well, characters that have a super smiley , happy and “bright” design in contrast to their actual backstory and intensions always works really well, a very simple but super effective contrast , especially as she’s not been done over the top in either direction, it’s very nicely balanced!!

Second of all, her backstory! It’s a pretty hard feat to write a character to seem somewhat justified or understand why they’d be pushed in the direction they go in , but I think it’s been done really well! Again it doesn’t go over the top into despair and sorrow , but does have enough of a realistic situation and scenarios that give a good idea of why and how the character ended up in the situation they are in now, it also doesn’t go into the super weak or super op band of character, which can be easy to drop into sometimes, so absolute kudos for that!

Overall I just adore her character, definitely have a soft spot for those types of ocs xD

Anyone here would be awesome to have some commentary on!

WAAA THAT MEANS SO MUCH TO ME THANK TOU SO MCYGATDHS?! 🩷💖💖💖💖

I don't often come across 4th wall breaking characters (in fact off the top of my head, I can't recall any other characters besides those from Undertale/Deltarune that fall into this category), so coming across The Player here has been a real treat. ^^ I like how they don't really take anything all that serious because of the nature of who they are, like they COULD be a threat especially given the kind of powers they have, but that would require them to care enough to do so. I also like that they worry about their perception between those within and outside their reality, it tells me that in spite of their typically nonchalant attitude, they still value the people whom they care about and whoever cares about them.

Their design's pretty fun, I love the menu prompts and computer elements that are woven into them (The Save/Load boots and their 'Power Button' pupils are both especially good details), while the use of yellow is very appealing to the eyes and not typically a colour I associate with computer or video-gamey stuff so it helps them stand out from the crowd. Lastly, their profile is pretty nice too, with the old late 90's/2000's era chatbox and the chats themselves providing more characterization on them.

Overall, pretty solid character. If they happen to see this, I hope it makes their day a little better 'w')b
