When they just arrive to the farm there’s a lot of work to do, since it’s been abandoned for quite a while, he helps by chopping down trees and breaking big rocks, also going to the mines to get coal and ores for whatever is needed, but when it’s time to start planting the crops he is incredibly scared, he loves plants, but in his corporate life he never had the time to take care of them so he settled for having plastic plants around his apartment; but now he is scared of ruining the crops somehow, so he decides that he’ll stick to mining and getting wood. Soon he finds that it helps him to take his intense emotions out and avoid self-harm, (even though he tends to overwork himself and faint a lot, but he thinks it’s better than cutting).
He finds out he hates fishing with all his heart, since he finds it stupidly frustrating, sometimes he’ll go with Theo when he asks him to -probably on purpose to laugh at his boyfriend a bit-, but otherwise he avoids it like the plague.
When they get the greenhouse, he confronts his fear of being a bad farmer and starts to grow cacti, because of their reputation of being easy to care for, eventually he gets the confidence to start growing other crops and when these are found successful, he feels ready to start planting out of the green house and helping Theo with the crops.
He likes to make jam and pickles out of everything, which grosses Theo out -he hates pickles-. Theo seems to be really good with animals, raising and caring for a few himself, Caleb helps out here and there, but just like with the plants, he is afraid of caring for another living being, but one day he finds a strange black egg in the coop and decides to hatch it, this is how Caleb discovers and falls in love with void chickens, starting to care for quite a few, being his pride and his joy.

FULL BACKSTORY
JOJA DAYS:
He starts escalating quickly becoming and important asset to the Joja Marketing team but he still got the same attitude snarky and defensive attitude he adopted in order to survive years of abuse. No one in the office liked him but they gotta deal with it because he’s smart and good at his job.
At this point (23-24 y.o) he meets Theo, he’s an accountant at Joja, they meet because HR organizes a secret Santa and they had to gift each other. They are both very lonely and quickly start to like each other, Theo softens Caleb and Caleb helps Theo get more confidence. Theo breaks Caleb’s walls and Caleb makes Theo get in touch with his feelings. They build a relationship where they’re each other’s only safe space, both being alone and from dysfunctional families, finally have a place to talk openly about their feelings, share their thoughts and passions and feel heard and cared for.
When they start to date Caleb starts to slow down, all this time he’s been running and living out of spite to prove something to the world and to himself and he’s somewhat proud of his achievements but he also looks around and looks at himself and how many issues he has. So, he starts going to therapy, he takes things a little slower, gets diagnosed and gets meds, he stops living out of spite and starts enjoying things, he enjoys his moments with Theo, he tries to control more his attitude, be nicer, but the office already has an image of him and he has this reputation of being bitchy that he can’t seem to wash off no matter what he does.
CHILDHOOD, TEEN YEARS AND EARLY ADULTHOOD.
Caleb was born in Mexico, and he lived there until he was 11/12. He was raised catholic and went constantly to church and even was in chorus.
His parents divorced, his father kept sending money but started to be even more distant, he was never emotionally available to begin with, but at least Caleb used to see him, now he barely even called him. A little later he remarried and had another daughter. (Caleb was 15) At first Caleb really hated her, he saw her as the reason why he was being abandoned, but when he meets his little sister for the first time everything changes, he just feels the urge to protect her, she’s so tiny and so pure and he can’t believe he could even hate her in the first place.
mom has undiagnosed bpd and was really abusive verbally and physically towards Caleb, at this point he starts to drift away from church because he has figured out he’s bisexual and is starting to question his gender, and being surrounded by transphobes and homophobes just makes him anxious. In high school he isn’t really liked by anyone due to his defensive, aggressive and snarky attitude (which is a coping mechanism for all the abuse he’s enduring, he is like scared animal defending himself). A few kids pick on him sometimes, sometimes it ends up on a fight because he snaps. He has decent grades at this point.
When he’s 16 he tries coming out to his mom, and she freaks out, making his time at home a bigger nightmare. His grades start to drop gradually

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------At 17 he’s just getting fed up with everything, he had been engaging on self-harming behavior at this point, he feels he is at his breaking point and attempts to take his own life, an attempt he survived. His parents don’t react well to this, they act disappointed, like they’re ashamed of him, his mom uses his attempt against him, tells him horrible things like that since that day he’s dead for her, or that sometimes she wishes he had died. Sees his attempt as something to be ashamed of and not as her son being mentally ill.
His dad doesn’t even mention it until he’s living in the farm at 28 and he wants his sister to stay over the summer, and his dad doesn’t want to let her go because he thinks Caleb is too irresponsible because of his past attempt.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Everyone in his life thinks he’s a failure, a loser and a disgrace and that he’ll never achieve anything Since his attempt fails, he decides he’s going to keep living out of spite and prove everyone wrong. He gets his grades up and manages to graduate high school with his generation when everyone thought he was going to repeat year. He decides to study Marketing, and when he starts university, he gets a job and at first, he lives with his mom but soon he starts living alone.
He has become less aggressive but he’s got a mean and cold front. He also tends to respond to others with sass and has a bit of “better than you” attitude to hide all of his self-hatred. But he’s very smart and good at his classes, he’s the classmate you’d love to be in a team with because you know you’re going to get an A+ but also hate because of how bossy he is
He goes through university basically without friends and being very alone but he works hard and manages to start HRT and get his top surgery before graduating. He makes his internship at Joja and after graduating he stays working there but continues his studies, he gets a specialty in creative services and then a master’s degree in graphic design. .
Design
• Caleb has dermatillomania so he has acne markings on his face and sometimes in random parts of his legs or arms.
• His favorite colors are black and purple, which he wears the most. He has a goth/alternative style, loves to wear clothes and accesories that have bats or skulls on it.
• More often than not you'll see him in casual clothes because he is always mining, but when he isnt he really likes dressing up and wearing makeup, he is a lil bit extra.
• Wears platform boots almost all the time.
• He has scars on his arms so he always wears long fingerless gloves!.
• He has cyber bites piercings, collarbone piercings, and three on each ear.
• For some reason in some pics his freckles aren't very noticeable, but he has freckles on his face and shoulders.
• Has droopy eyes and a resting bitch face.
• Despite not being diagnosed with any physical condition, he suffers from joint pain which worsens when its cold, he can often be seen wearing a wrist and knee brace.
Trivia

• • Caleb was raised catholic, even though he doesn't identify with the religion, he still wears the rosary beads given to him on his baptism.
• He was in church chorus for a long time, where he learned to play guitar and piano. He doesnt' really share his musical talents with people unless they get really close, it's a very private thing for him.
• His sun sign is aries, moon sign cancer and rising scorpio.
• He was born in Mexicali, México, and lived there until he was 12. Therefore, he is fluent in spanish.
• He has BPD, ADHD, C-PTSD, dysthimia and dermatillomania. He is under medication, reason why he avoids drinking.
• The fact that he sings and plays is basically well known despite being a "secret", Stardew Valley is a small town after all and information spreads fast, despite this no one will really bring it up.
• He doesn't do well in cold weather. When winter comes he avoids doing anything at all, he will try to stay close to anything that warms him up, this often being his boyfriends, cats, and farm animals.

Theo
(Theo belongs to my partner!!) Theo has been Caleb's boyfriend since the times when both worked at Joja. He was the only one who could get past all the walls Caleb put up and get to the soft side of him, and at the same time, Caleb was the only one who got Theo to make contact with his feelings, the one he had shoved inside his chest for all his life. Eventually they got tired of corporate life, which had started to feel monotonous and empty, Caleb fantasized and talked about starting from scratch somewhere new, so when Theo inherited the farm he proposed Caleb to move in together.
Shane
He is dating (and eventually gets married to) both Caleb and Theo. At first him and Caleb didn't really get along at first, they hated each other. Caleb always had a snarky and a little aggressive personality which caused him trouble with his peers, before going to the Valley he decided he was gonna change and try to be a nicer and more approachable person, but meeting with Shane’s “get fucking away” attitude really made him angry and triggered him, so, he responded to him in the same manner, this went on for a few months, snarky remarks back and forth, Caleb annoying Shane, until Caleb apologized and tried to be better. They eventually figured out they had a lot more in common than they thought and started to get closer
Sebastian
LSeb and Caleb vibed right away since they both have that emo/goth loner boy that likes to smoke. They had a weird romantic tension for a while, but they got into a fight and stopped talking for some time. They made up but any feelings they were building up were gone, and just remained best friends. They like to smoke together, chat about their feelings and share playlists.
Emily
Emily is really friendly and easy going, which is the polar opposite of Caleb, but he started to spend time around her for this exact same reason, since he was trying to be more approachable, he thought he could learn something of her. He really liked her easy-going vibe, finding that she was really easy to talk to, a good listener, and always had something interesting to say. Emily’s spirituality rubbed onto Caleb, which helped him to form a new belief system (along with meeting the wizard and knowing about the existence of junimos and other magical entities). Due to his interest in alternative fashion and makeup he becomes interested in making clothes, Emily teaches him and lets him borrow her sewing machine, in return Caleb will gift her all the cloth in the world.
