Personality

Io is a cocky, overly-confident thief with a penchant for trouble. She’s loud, narcissistic, and holds herself very highly above everyone else. She says quips and one-liners frequently, it only sometimes comes across as charming/cool though. Most of the times it’s just an extra annoyance for those she’s robbing (which may be intentional on her part. Who knows). Io is an extremely greedy and territorial person, often hoarding things and refusing to give something up once she has it in her grasp.

Despite what everyone else in the universe thinks, Io firmly believes that she isn’t greedy, not really. She grew up alone, surrounded by danger and garbage and a monster leering down at her from the sky. She went through it and she got out alive. Io passed the test, and thus she deserves everything she wants—or that’s how she thinks of it, at least. She also believes that she doesn’t owe those less fortunate then her anything because, “I did it. I got out. You can too, you don’t need my help.”

Her greedy and self-centered nature leaves her without many (Or any) friends. She doesn’t really care though. In her mind, the less treasure she has to share with others, the better.

Trivia
  • Harpys normally have long feathers under their arms to act as wings, allowing them to fly. Io was born without these feathers and thus is earthbound.
  • Stores lots of tools, snacks, and bandaids in her utility belt.
  • Far sighted, her goggles are prescription and help her see things up close. She always has them on hand.
  • She wasn’t born with the gold designs on her face. She had them embedded later on in life. She treats them as a symbol of status, though she’s the only one who sees them as such.
  • Tends to pick fights with people she can’t win against
  • Her colors were inspired by a bustard bird!
Hobbies
Thievery
Io has been stealing since she was young. She started out with market booths and food vendors, then moved up to people’s houses, then to museums and banks and the like. She’s trying to figure out where to go from here.
Inventing/machining
She built her spaceship, along with the majority of her weapons and tech. They’re roughly built, but they’re strong and they work well. She often tinkers with bits and pieces of metal when she’s bored.
Comic book collecting
Io may or may not have decided to become a thief due to some comics she read as a child. She also may or may not have collected every single addition of this comic series, and she may or may not store all of them in a mini library in the back of her ship.
History

Io grew up on a tiny little planet called Thater in the furthest reaches of the Kentaurus galaxy. Thater was infested with a giant monster just beneath its surface, allowing few people to enter and even fewer to escape. It was generally considered uninhabitable, and thus served as the garbage dump for all the other planets in Kentaurus. She ended up there after her home planet was destroyed, herself and several hundred others abandoned on Thater. Her parents were nowhere to be found, so she raised herself. Scrounging around for food scraps, tools, toys: anything to help her survive and keep her entertained. Many others were stranded there as well, but it was mostly a “survival of the fittest” situation. Io spent very little time around others, and any time spent was often in dispute or physical fights for something of value.

This was her life for twelve or so years, until she found an old comic book. Vibrant pictures told the story of a gang of thieves, taking what they wanted and living in luxury because of it. Io saw their lives, and she wanted it for herself. She made a plan of escape, built a rickety yet functional space craft, and flew from the planet, barely evading the surface monster’s reach. Once free, Io made her way to the nearest planet, where she began practicing her thievery skills.
It took a while, and costed her several police chases, bloody noses, and lost quarries, but eventually she managed to get the hang of it. Soon enough she was able to steal fruit, tools, and knickknacks from right under shop vendor’s noses.

Io moved from planet to planet, stealing more items and upgrading her ship for better travel. She got new clothes and delicious meals, cash, coins, diamonds, jewelry; even managed to snag a few more comics along the way. She now lives in the lap of luxury, and she refuses to give it up for anything.
