A peculiar gem that despises sunlight, unlike other gems. Kunzite operates best in cloudy climates, and operates all year.
Kunzite spends much of their time outside patrolling and surveying. Sunny days are Kunzite's most despised times to operate, however. It makes them duller and uglier. Too much exposure to sunlight could ruin them permanently. If they absolutely must operate on a sunny day, Kunzite requires lots of sunscreen... And an umbrella.
The high maintenance nature makes them a hindrance in the battlefield and an annoyance to peers. So like Cinnabar and Antarctite, Kunzite operates in less favourable conditions for other gems.
This nature makes them less attractive to Lunarians, and Kunzite is considered an otherwise very safe gem. They don't need to fight much, and can focus on tasks thoroughly instead.
This is preferrable to Kunzite... As they'd rather be away from the rest. For reasons unknown...
- The safe conditions of Kunzite make this incarnation the safest incarnation of Hazel. As all the rest are in constant danger, this version is free to philosophise as they please.
- The original gem planned for this character was Alexandrite. But the gem already has an incarnation in Land of the Lustrous, so that idea was scrapped.
- Kunzite withering under sunlight is a direct reference to Hazel's figurative weakness.
- Unlike other versions of Hazel, who weaponize allure, this version makes use of repelling to keep themself safe.
Kunzite is very distant, and speaks quite a lot.
Their verbose nature makes them an excellent poet, when coupling that with their philosophising of the world. Their strange character adds to Kunzite's repelling nature.
