About
Born originally in Alola to Kyle and Meredith, Kai is older brother to Lizabeth and a descendant of the People of the Water. Starting at a young age, he began to travel with his sister, parents, and grandfather as a performance group, The Marina Group. Due to this, Kai has traveled through many different regions. His partner pokemon was given to him before traveling, being a popplio from the Alolan region, gifted by his grandfather. Kai is close to his family, enjoying aiding in performances, and the more he grew, the more he participated. Around the age of 17, Kai began to receive dreams of the Temple of the Sea and the mythical pokemon, Manaphy, who was closely tied to his ancestors' culture, the dreams coming frequently than compared to the rest of his family. Kai made the decision to break off from his traveling family to begin a journey of his own, hoping to maybe find the answers to his frequent dreams, and possibly even manaphy and the temple itself.
At some point during his travels, Kai gave up on his search for manaphy and the temple, giving the reasoning to his family that he just wanted to settle down somewhere and enjoy life. His father offered that Kai could return to Alola, where extended family still made home, of which Kai accepted. He moved in with his father's cousin, Lana's father, at the age 19. He quickly began to enjoy the life on Alola, as well as becoming trial captain for Brooklet Hill for a few years. However, he realized he wanted to just do his own thing, passing on the reign of captain to his younger cousin, Lana, moving into his own home closer to the Alolan beach, where he now is a lifeguard. Even on his own time, he will often be found in Alola's waters, enjoying the beach life. He is friendly to all, happy to meet anyone new and make a friend. Yet underneath it all, a guilt still plagues him, as the truth of why he really gave up his search for manaphy is still kept from his family; a disappointing reality that he would rather keep hidden and forget.

Primarina (Ponyo) ♀ : a friend since childhood, Ponyo was Kai's first pokemon, and is his most trusted partner. Ponyo is often outside her pokemon the most, swimming right alongside Kai and helping out with lifeguard duties.

After saving Dulse after he fell into the water at the beach Kai lifeguards for, Dulse would often to return to the same beach, claiming it was for "research of Alolan life." Kai often offered his help towards Dulse to do so in a safer manner, as well as personally show Dulse life around Alola, both for pokemon and people. He also helped to teach Dulse how to swim, while Dulse also would share information and stories of his own world. The two only became closer, until their feelings were finally confessed, their first kiss being underwater.
