Profile

Personality:

Many know him when he's under the guise of The Phantom, and because of that, experience the vengeful and theatrical side of him -- seeing Ysingmyr as a threat that he must stop at all costs, he's blinded by the reality that not everyone who follows the religion is out for his head. Because of this, The Phantom's relationship with the Island Intuitive as a whole is shaky -- while he's slowly, carefully begun to open his heart to a select few, he still can fall into old habits around those he doesn't know well.

When not under the guise of the Phantom, he does try to pull back some of the more....aggressive aspects of him, but it doesn't stop him from cryptic and distant. He finds it difficult to express what he actually wants to say to another -- but give him a good game of riddles, or pass a few notes back and forth, and you might get something out of him. His general difficulty with communication makes him also, interestingly, supportive of those who also struggle with speaking, as evidenced by the time he bought a gift with the express purpose to spun confidence in the receiver.

All and all, he enjoys keeping himself mysterious for his own express amusement, and becomes flustered when he has to be more direct with his words. Despite this, he wants more than anything to have someone he can put his trust into, someone that allows him to finally not be all on his own -- even if he doesn't realize it quite yet.

Background:

Castor is one of the two remaining heirs to the Aestus family name -- targeted alongside his family at a young age for his bloodline. While Pollux and Sorrel manage to flee, Castor is mistakenly left behind, and is later picked up by bandits hailing from Orbenia. As he grew up alongside them, Castor found himself targeted more and more for reasons that at first, he didn't understand, nor did the bandits. As the years went on, and the threats by mysterious assassins increased, Castor knew that he had to figure out this truth -- and that was something that none of the bandits were ever going to give him.

When his travels to find this truth leads him to Erdomin, and he learns the truth as to why these threats were so prevalent, his desire to protect himself had turns into a vendetta against Ysingmyr as a whole. He takes one of Erdomin's prized weapons -- the Twin Star Scythe -- and takes on the guise as the Phantom.

However, when learns that not only is his sister is alive, but is under the care of someone who knew his parents, a faint hope begins to form. His heart, meant to be closed off forever from the years and years of betrayal and distrust, decides that perhaps, he can open it up again, with time. That even though he originally saw all of Ysingmyr as a threat, maybe some -- maybe the one wielding the very flame that's supposed to protect the country -- have also suffered from the same person behind it all.

In post-game, Castor spends the first year or so of his life dismantling the remnants of Orbenia's Wyvern trade, and making amends with the bandits that raised him. He then begins to struggle to find a purpose -after all, what is he to do in a world where people aren't out to get him? - but is able to find one thanks to Meriwether, the one person he's kept in contact through letters. Together, the two focus on Meriwether's research, while providing support for each other along the way.

Other Info:

  • Castor has a Wyvern by the name of Saiph, who he trusts dearly. He saved Saiph at a young age during one of the many raids the bandits did on Orbenia's Wyvern trade.
  • Castor is an awful cook. Terrible. He can, however, hunt very well, and has done so with Carvus in the past.
  • While he's great at acting, he needs something to cover his face in order keep up 'his act', such as a mask or the ability to pull a hat over his eyes.
  • (In general, Castor struggles with making eye contact, and will use his notebook to write when overwhelmed.)
