Somewhat of a community leader, though not especially well liked. Hiroshi has a strong connection to the nightmares that plague the town, and knows how to keep them at bay. His goals are far from eradication, however: he is interested in preservation and coexistence.
Many in the town judge him insane for this, though most wil reluctantly take his advice when it comes to the creatures due to having no other reliable source; Hiroshi is the only one in the already small town that is both willing and qualified to give advice on how deal with the outworldly creatures.
His strange hobbies aside, Hiroshi's personality is also far from pleasant: he maintains a painfully professional tone with most and has little to no tolerance for humor, nor any apparent interest in socialization. It seems he cares for little other than the wellbeing of the nightmares under his care, though he does seem to harbor some sort of strong attachment to the town. Friends of his are scarce, though not inexistent.

Hiroshi is Ren's older brother, and despite what his cold personality would have you believe, loves his sister more than anything. They don't talk much these days, however – Ren has zero interest in Hiroshi's line of work. Hiroshi, on the other hand, cannot bring himself to abandon it. The conflict has caused an ever growing chasm between the two, one Hiroshi deeply regrets. They haven't spoken in over a year.

Most people are surprised to find out the cold stoic Hiroshi is friends with local murder clown Lucien, but hey, here we are. Hiroshi appears immune to Lucien's constant nagging (though it is noteworthy to say that the nagging is significantly toned down when aimed at him), and the two have similar worldviews and a common interest in the protection of nightmares. So, they're friends. Which definitely doesn't help Hiroshi's already poor reputation, but what can you do.
Lucien met Hiroshi when he was very young, and has been the only one to stick by him when everyone else decided to leave out of fear. Though he finds it hard to express in words, Hiroshi is deeply grateful for Lucien and the company he offers... despite how annoying he can be.

To say the two share a professional relationship would be... generous. Really, Hiroshi just pays him monthly visits to make sure he's not doing anything he'd consider harmful to the Nightmares.
Hiroshi finds the man a little frustrating to deal with on a social capacity, but (as much as Carlos would never believe it) respects the man's efforts and research. He'd even offer Carlos his help, were he more socially inclined!
He is not, though.

Hiroshi often worries about the girl. Though he keeps quiet about it for her own sake (why ruin a child's game, after all...), he is more than skeptical about her claims about her true nature as a Nightmare. Hiroshi sees her and treats her as any other inhabitant of the town, a normal child that deals with things in her own way.
For every time Hiroshi looks out for her, asks her how she is doing out of concern, she returns the favor and asks about him instead. He finds it endearing, though her evasion of his questions is not something that goes unnoticed.
