Half-Elf

Child of a human father and elven mother, Rowan is a Half-Elf. His mother was a Wood Elf, and his father was a human residing in the nearby plains. Rowan, his parents, and his younger sibling now live at a midpoint between the deep forest community of the local Wood-elves and the humans of the plains. They live fairly secluded from the outside, preferring not to bother themselves with the affairs of others. As a half-elf, Rowan has the advantage of appearing human to humans and appearing elvish to elves. His mother also taught him common elvish tongue, which aids him in elvish relations.

Adventurer's Son

Rowan's father, and his father before him, and his father before him (and so on) are all adventurers of some kind. Rowan has been told the story of his grandfather's pilgrimage across Ioqerim what feels like hundreds of times. Even Rowan's father has a story or three about the various escapades he got on within his youth, before he fell in love and wanted to put up roots. Rowan's father is a masterful storyteller, a talent that Rowan inherited as well. Rowan's natural charisma and warm demeanor lends him well to a leadership position, even if he doesn't like to think of it that way. When he came home with his treasure and newfound friends, he put his storytelling prowess prowace to good use, entertaining and inspiring anyone who happened to listen.

Local Hero

A little over two years ago, Rowan returned from a perilous journey across Ioqerim. His party's original goal was to uncover a great treasure buried centuries ago by a King driven mad. What they ended up uncovering, however, was a centuries-wide conspiracy by the current ruling oligarchy. The usual hijinks ensue: toppling the royal institution, light thievery, dragon-battling, and the likes. Rowan's a modest sort and would tell you his only accomplishment was getting to go along for the ride, but his party will spin a different story. Rowan's charismatic nature and ability to think on his feet got them out of a lot of problems. Now that he's back home, customers and residents of the local villages just won't stop asking him to recount a tale or play them a song he composed on the journey with his lute. *sigh*, being universally loved is a hard job.

Personality

Ask -almost- anyone who's come into contact with Rowan, and they'll tell you that he is an utterly charming and empathetic young man. Rowan would probably deny the intensity of those descriptions, and then he would also be labeled humble. The truth of the matter is Rowan is all of these things, but there's a lot more to him than the boy-next-door persona he presents to the world. Rowan is a very charismatic individual, but that charisma makes him a mischievous sort. He's a natural at myriad activities he picks up, but most of them don't hold his attention long enough to develop into honed skills. Still, Rowan is very good-natured and forgiving, but his acceptance can come off to some as sycophantic. Rowan loves conversation and he's got a tendency to fill up any empty air with a song, a quip, or a joke. Oftentimes, Rowan's insistence can appear as pestering, but once people are around him for a long enough time they realize that his interest is genuine. A natural-born people person, Rowan can get along with nearly anyone he talks to as long as he can find a common interest. Rowan might just be too trusting of other people, but his loyalty is slow to be earned. Still, when he finds a true friend in someone, he will not hesitate to back them up and help them along. His adventure taught him many things, and his friends are continuing to teach him more about the vastness of life's experiences.

History

Rowan was born the eldest child of a human man from the plains and a Woodland Elf from a forest the surrounding villages refer to only as "The Bauemar". In his youth, Rowan lived very solitarily. The only people outside of his family he had contact with were the customers that would come to his family's apothecary. His parents made a decent living as independent artisans, and their work was very well-renowned, drawing in many customers despite their location. Rowan grew up in the outskirts of The Bauemar, and it was the frequent passage of humans, elves, dwarves, and other races too and from Rowan's home that began a reconstruction effort between the local humans and Wood-elves of the area. However, as he grew older he grew more restless as he longed to make connections with people his age. After lots and lots of begging, Rowan managed to convince his parents to branch out their shop for deliveries. He started running deliveries, and Juniper took over running the front of the shop. She was twelve then, but she was surprisingly adept at it! Still, Rowan longed for more, and when an opportunity for treasure and adventure presented itself, he took it.

The Bauemar

Rowan, nor most other non-woodland Elvishfolk, know much about the Bauemar. Despite living in the outskirts of it, Rowan's own knowledge of the ins and outs of the Bauemar is still less-than-perfect. Only Rowan's mother is allowed to venture into the heart of the Bauemar, where most of the wood-elves reside, and even then she is only allowed to visit. Rowan's family began to attend to their first clients from their home after one particularly brave human woman came knocking on their door, covered head-to-toe in bruises, and asking for help. It used to be that Rowan's younger sibling Juniper would accompany him on expeditions to the human villages nearby to sell their elixirs, salves, remedies, and tinctures. However, after that brave woman had come to them, Rowan's mother (with Juniper's help) created a safe pathway between their shop and her village.

Juniper [ sibling ]

Rowan's younger sibling! They're a few years behind him, but he likes to think he treats them as equals. That's all she whines about, "Stop calling me cute, Ro! Just because I'm small doesn't mean I can't kick your butt!!" but even their whining is pretty adorable. Juniper doesn't talk a lot about what she wants to do when she grows up, which Rowan finds strange because when he was their age, that was all he was thinking about! But now Juniper's saying she's going on a real, bonafide adventure. "Good for you," He said to them "you need to get out more anyway. Make sure you have fun; make some friends!" This got him a scowl and a kick in the shins.

Fin [ boyfriend ]

It's ah, kind of a funny story! Rowan first met Fin when Fin and his pirate crew attempted to board Rowan & Friend's Vessel. Some homoerotic swordplay ensued and, eventually, a stalemate between the two ships' captains resulted in Fin deciding to join Rowan's forces. Rowan's immediate compliance had nothing at all to do with the fact that he already had a big dorky crush on the man. Nothing at all. Fin appointed a new captain and set his crew off on their business, and from that point on Fin was a part of the gang! They both fell in love saving each other's lives, and by the time their journey was over, they had finally made it official. Fin's come back with Rowan for now, but he's eager to get out on the sea again. Secretly, despite his protests that he wants to settle and become a regular ol' farmer, Rowan wants to get back out there too.

Sylvi [ best friend ]

Rowan and Sylvi met at a bar, like most best friends. They both arrived at the bar heeding a flyer concerning an ancient, lost treasure. As it turned out, Rowan had the missing piece of the map and Sylvi could read the map key, written in an old dwarven dialect. So, Rowan and Sylvi, along with Erisna (the elf who had created the flyers) and Perster (a halfling who claimed to know the area) bid their previous lives behind and set out to find the treasure, each with their own motivations and reasons. Sylvi and Rowan happened to complement each other's personalities very well, but they tended to bring out mischief in each other. Even still, the pair became quite a comedic duo and their antics often served as quality distractions when executing plans.
