Biography

Captain Valencia is the leader of the pirate ship the Jeweled Blade, known as the Pirate-Mage among other mariners due to her natural magic ability. She considers her crew her family, and spends her days sailing the seas in search of one adventure and the next. Although she considers the sea her only true home, her heart is anchored on a small island hidden within the sea, where she met the love of her life, Princess Benitoite.

Personality

She's confident, bold, and brash; everything one would expect of a pirate captain. She's fiercely loyal to her friends and takes care of her own, and while she is a pirate-and is certainly in no way a model citizen- she's more than willing to accomplish her goals in a non-lethal way, if it's possible. She really just wants the best seafaring adventure she can find.

Valencia is a natural-born leader; she's strong-willed and driven, and takes care of her own. Thus, she's a great pirate captain, and her experience with seamanship makes her a great sailor all-around. She's also extremely magically endowed, which is a rarity among the highly-superstitious sailors; she uses this to her (and her ship's) advantage.

Appearance

"She wore her smirk with unarguable authority, and though she was only in her mid-twenties, she seemed far more aged, if only due to experience and mannerisms. Despite the authority she commanded, she maintained a wild sort of look, with disheveled red hair, a scar across her long Greek nose, and brown eyes that sang of mischief and conquest. She wore what was clearly a captain's uniform, though just as clearly not of any true navy; the jacket was a bold red with gold trim, and she wore trousers and boots meant for men. Jewelry was everywhere; especially rings, which adorned every finger, in some cases two or three strong, gemstones glistening off most of them. At her side hung a cutlass that nearly touched the ground, the blade shimmering and the sheath decorative."

Valencia is muscular and tall, standing at 6'1". She has sun-tanned white skin, natural red hair, and brown eyes.

History

Valencia spent her childhood on board the pirate ship Bad Omen, as an adopted daughter/protege of the captain. She was raised through-and-through as a pirate, and she adored every day at sea. At age 12, she kidnapped a young cabin boy, Nathaniel Webbs, from a Mainland naval vessel that the crew had invaded. She took him under her wing as an apprentice, and the two became close friends. They spent pretty much their entire childhood together; and, together, the pair captured their own ship. Valencia deemed herself Captain of the Ocean Blade, with Webbs her first mate.

Valencia captained the Blade with vigor, and without smothering her ever-growing magical abilities, which were generally considered taboo to sailors. Using her experience as a seaman and her magic, Valencia carved a place for herself and her crew, becoming known as "The Pirate-Mage" among other sailors.

She found Isle Almase by mistake, and it was the best mistake that she ever made. There, she met the island's princess, Benitoite; the two were fond of each other, and soon became enamored with each other. Valencia and Bennie fell deeply in love, and Valencia and her crew began to make frequent visits to the small island.

She became intrigued with an inscribed scroll she'd gotten from a failed necromancer many years before, and began to focus on deciphering the secrets that she believed were hidden in its depths.

Trivia

  • Valencia has literally spent her whole life at sea; she was born to a guest aboard the pirate vessel Bad Omen, and has lived on ships her whole life.
  • Despite the shadowbeast that is magically bound to her, Valencia is not a necromancer; the beast was bonded to her when she killed the mage who summoned it. That said, she has no problem letting others believe that she practices necromancy.
  • Her ship was renamed twice. When she first took her ship, Valencia named her the Ocean Blade, but she changed it to the Jeweled Blade as a reminder of her love for her fiancée, as jewels and gemstones hold great significance in her island's culture.
