Those who meet Noboru often find themselves unnerved by the young man’s demeanor - or lack thereof. His voice is monotone with little inflection or emotion. His facial expressions and mannerisms aren’t any improvement. At times, he can be misread as cold or uninterested, but truthfully Noboru has forgotten how to express himself. Shutting down his emotions was a coping mechanism to survive through the Abyss and he’s never quite learned how to turn them back on.

Despite his non-emotive disposition, Noboru feels just as many emotions as everyone else - even if he cannot seem to fully feel or understand them. His main struggles come in the form of social interactions. His time in the Abyss was spent cut off from any people (beyond Taro). Reconnecting with and learning to trust others is a difficult task for Noboru. However, once he warms up to someone, there is very little he wouldn’t do to protect them.

Labeled a prodigy at a young age, Noboru has always had an affinity for reading and researching. He was enamored with books at an early age. He would hang onto every word his father used to read to him and once he was old enough to read them himself, would go into reading trances. Once he started a book, he would scarcely even look away before he finished it. The same is true nowadays. Noboru can usually be found with his face between the pages of a book. To most observers, Noboru would seem completely enraptured in his text - oblivious to his surroundings. However, his time in the Abyss has made him hypervigilant. He at times startles people by adding a comment in the middle of others’ conversations.
