💉 Kallista

A mysterious assassin with a monster arm and an unexplained grudge against the Arcanta family. Recently she's shown up in Aym Harbor, hell-bent on taking Grace's life, though the governor seems to find it more of a mild annoyance than anything else...

Personality

impatient • stubborn • melodramatic

From a young age, Kallista has been fiercely compassionate and loyal to her family, and equally fiercely frustrated that nobody is doing anything to help them. After years of feeling useless and ineffectual, she no longer has any patience for politicking or long-term plans; she wants to change things in the fastest and loudest way she can, even if it means doing things - and becoming someone - that she's not proud of.

Her impulsivity often leads her to bite off much more than she can chew. But between her stubborness and social awkwardness, she's... not great at admitting her mistakes, even to herself. When confronted by the consequences of her actions she tends to deny them in her usual over-the-top style, and dig herself even deeper. You can't fail as long as you don't stop trying, right? It's a bit of a miracle she's not dead or in jail yet.

Design Notes

  • 190cm-ish, rectangular build
  • movements are stiff and lumbering until she has to move fast - and then she moves REALLY fast
  • perpetually angry-looking; the fact that the right side of her face can't emote much doesn't help
  • has another eye on the back of her head, where the monster mouth ends
  • monster skin has a wrinkly, mottled, unpleasant texture; appears in scattered patches over her torso, not just on the right side
  • spike placement is random; they grow out of the monster skin until they start interfering with her clothes, after which she yanks them out
  • wears whatever clothes and bits of armor she can patch together. would probably be goth if she had a clothing budget lol

Story

21 years ago, the House of Arcanta bought Carabia Marsh and most of the land surrounding it. The event was barely remarked on in the newspapers; House Arcanta had been acquiring land for decades as part of a little vanity project. Nobody lived out there except a couple tiny villages, anyway. Surely they were all relocated without much fuss.

20 years ago, Kallista was born in the cursed lands just outside House Arcanta's new territory, her mutant mawed right arm bigger than the rest of her body put together.

Her childhood was rough; cursed children rarely survive even under the best of conditions, and her parents barely had enough for themselves as it was. She did what she could to help them, but since she only had the one functional arm and couldn't be seen in public, it wasn't much. Her frustration at herself and the situation drove her to leave home and travel, hiding the worst of her mutations under a heavy cloak. The arm, she discovered, was deadly if nothing else, and she spent several years developing her own unique fighting style around its capabilities. Then she turned her attention to the House that had caused all her problems in the first place.

The choice to target Grace in particular wasn't based on anything special. Sonorie moves around too much to pin down, and it would be far too dangerous to storm Valefar Academy in search of Lyribeth, that's all. In fact, Kallista's given very little thought to what she hopes to accomplish by murdering Grace, or even how she's going to do it. Or maybe it'll be kidnapping instead of murder? She'll figure it out when she gets there. But it's sure to change something, right?

Trivia

  • she doesn't feel much in her mutated parts beyond dull pressure. you could stab her through the arm and she'd barely react.
  • all of her mouths can eat. she tries not to think too hard about the logistics of that.
  • irl footage of me cooking this character up

Relationships

Lyri • sworn enemy?

Strictly speaking Kallista has never met the youngest Arcanta sister, but Lyribeth's very existence enrages her. Her entire family, driven out of their homeland and brought to ruin, just so the Arcantas could pamper a third child in their cushy fortress mansion? The girl's practically a perfect summary of her grief and misery. But whether her assumptions will survive meeting the real person is yet to be seen...
