Vitae

Vitae is my second Starbound character, and has a lot more backstory than Benzene.

He was born to a Miniknog family and lived an obliviously luxurious life until he started school, which put him among regular Apex and made him gradually realise he was treated differently from the other kids. Those who bullied him for his genetically tweaked, extremely pink fur would often suddenly stop one day and avoid him, or mysteriously leave the school. In his late teens he started figuring out that the Miniknog and the omnipresent watchful eye of Big Ape were not the benevolent leaders that his upbringing and the constant propaganda had him believe. After his best friend's family were "vanished" by the government for dubious ties to the rebellion, Vitae came to the descision that he agreed with the sentiments of the rebellion, and that Big Ape and the fascistic technocracy of the Miniknog, his own family, should be torn down.

Instead of outright fleeing his family and holing up on some far flung rebellion camp however, Vitae asked his family's permission to join the Protectorate. The plan was to use both his influence as the son of a Miniknog family and the freedom and power of the Protectorate to secretly aid the rebellion in any way he could, to become their "ape on the inside".... But then Earth exploded. And now the galaxy is in chaos. The Apex revolution is still Vitae's main goal but now it has become secondary to fixing all THAT.

Vitae is a sturdy, somewhat tall Apex with curly pink fur, white eyebrows, and pale blueish skin. He is generally quiet, holds his emotions close, and has the unconsciously commanding posture and way of speaking of an entitled upbringing. He is of average intelligence for an Apex, which is to say annoyingly smart compared to every other race, and well-educated in his general knowledge and vocabulary. In battle he tends to hold his ground behind a shield while wielding an axe, or use a sturdy assault rifle when range is required. Although his tastes are often quite obviously that of an elite technocrat richboy, he also tends to value the things that his family did not: nature, historical relics, outsider knowledge, and people who speak their minds.
