Charles is a respectable man, who does not often over step unless he sees it as necessary. He can be quite traditional with his outward presentation, but his thoughts and actions are often motivated by skepticism. Charles has a lot of concerns about the way the world runs and doubts about his place in it. But he tries to find his nest within it and not cause too many waves, especially where his personal life is concerned. When it comes to work, he does not cut corners and will do what he deems necessary, most of the time, unless it goes against his principles.

It doesn't take a lot to shock or overwhelm Charles, but he will refuse to show his distress, beyond becoming quite rigid (moreso than usual). However, the more someone knows him, the easier he is to read, which flusters him. He can be quite charming, and he's very good at setting differences aside and dealing with people, but he's also capable of coming off as a pompous prick if he's not careful. He's fairly critical, but he's more open than he seems, and is actually capable of being silly or having fun... once in a while; he does live with Graham after all.

A lot of the airs he puts on are for spectacle, to be perceived as he perceived his father, as a professional,  stoic masculine figure.

History

Charles Lynn Gregory was born January 18th 1936 in Surrey. Around the age of 10-13, he met his childhood best friend, Leslie Paris, who became a new role model and his first crush. Charles struggled with dealing with this new feeling and never confessed to Leslie, but they remained close throughout their school days, but once they both grew up, life took them separate ways, and ghey fell out of touch. 

Charles's parents were good, hardworking people. He idolized his father, who worked as a police officer. However, his family was never very emotional or affectionate; they didn't talk about their emotions, nor were they very physical. His upbringing was fairly strict, but Charles was a good kid and didn't have to deal with punishment often, so he did not think there was anything wrong with the way he was raised.

When Charles graduated and moved into the work force, he had dreams of becoming a detective like his father. But it wasn't long before Charles's father, Lynn, died on the job. His mother never liked the idea of Charles following in his father's footsteps and that fear of hers grew even worse after Lynn had passed. She tried to persuade Charles to take his life in a different direction, but he refuses. A few years later, his mother passed away from illness, but some say it was from the grief. Charles was without both of his parents by his mid-twenties. After his mother died, Charles began to realize ahe was right. He grew a distaste for the police, so he gave up on being a police officer and started his own private investigator business.

He inherited his family home after the passing of his parents, and he lives there to this day. Currently, he's still working at his own PI business, but unexpectedly has now found himself with a flatmate and business partner, a foolish coroner, Graham Alan, who helps him with his cases. Even though they are complete opposites, they make it work somehow and get along and are fairly successful in solving cases. Often time he's asked to help assist police investigations, and while Charles holds a bit of a grudge against the police because of his complicated relationship with his father, he agrees to help them, because he wishes to get the better of them.

Relationships

Graham Alan

Business partners & flatmates. Love interest. Graham causes a lot of trouble for Charles, but for some reason Charles welcomes it and finds this trouble worth his while. Graham is an idiot but he's insightful and a kind companion. They really bring out the best and worst in each other. But together, they can be a bit playful and Charles needs some time to let loose and relax a little

Leslie Paris

Childhood friend that he lovingly puts up with still. Met him through church as choir boys. He used to look up to him like a mentor, but he later figured out they were complete opposites and that pushed them a part a little. But still on the rare occasion when they get together, they get along. They know each other too well.

Trivia

• Charles was a philosophy student because he knew he wanted a higher education, but he didn't know what to study. He found it interesting at the time and thought it would be valuable. After graduating, he now knows its not. 
  • he's now very critical of people who are philosophy students / and towards other 'useless' subjects
• He can get out nearly any stain,  hes a very clean person 
• Is familiar with men's fashion and has his very particular style but recognizes brand names and quality 
• Fitted and buttoned up clothes are a must
