  • species Bovine
  • background Order Mage
  • age 54

Far out past the astral plane, I cast you back from whence you came; Cosmic ash and blackened brain, I call you by your ancient names

Once the pampered and carelessly unkind son of nobles, nowadays Havelock is a mage that is decidedly always trying to pay for his past - detectiving out corrupted mages, and whatever other tasks he can make himself useful to. Despite the training of the order, his magic and sometimes the use of it can be... unconventional.

Personality

Clever | Deductive | Intuitive | Guilt-Ridden | Workaholic | Charming | Tempermental | Perpetually Tired

A naturally clever head sits atop Amadeus Havelock's shoulders, with a natural sense of when something doesn't feel quite right, and an instinct to sniff out deception. A air of guilt and duty hangs over him, to those that know him well enough to see it; his past hangs over him perhaps a touch too heavily then it should. To the tune of this, the man often works himself to the bone until he's ready to collapse, worrying all of those close to him.

A natural sense of noble manners, and the instinct of how best to smooth someone over leaves Havelock a charmer, when the timing is right for it. This makes it all the easier to get information to further his goals, or sniff something odd out. Despite his best efforts to dash it, a natural temper lurks under the surface - sometimes exploding out under extreme stress.

Often times Havelock is emotionally exhausted, particularly if he's recently had to work with more ... senseless colleagues.

History

Born to an old noble family, Amadeus Havelock grew into a prideful spoiled creature, and something of a pretentious ass, despite his natural charm and intelligence both. He was not naturally kind, prickly and pompous, much like his parents before him. He was not 'cured' of his personality ailments for much of his young life; nothing challenged the young dukes' heir much at all until well into his early twenties.

Whilst wandering the edges of the familial estate, Havelock found himself descended on by a band of brigants, who beat him to unconcious and hauled him off. He awakened to find himself imprisoned, taken hostage by a group supposedly displeased with the existence of nobles altogether, and excessively so with Amadeus' own parents, along with numerous other disagreements. Gradually it became apparent the whole band was employed by a rival noble family, having instructed the leaders of this group to cause as much havoc has possible. Kept almost for last, Amadeus witnessed numerous brutal tortures, and senseless killing of others imprisoned.

Little by little, the learned prideful nature began to chip away under pressure.

Eventually, Havelock found himself dragged out of his 'cell', the group prepared to do with him what they had done to a number of others before him. Havelock had never displayed any form of magic previously - it was a rarity in his bloodline. However, the impending nature of his apparent destruction awoke something - a feral, untrained magic ripping out of him. Spectral tendrils tore themselves into this dimension, beating, grasping and tearing. All the while, Havelock found his physical body largely immobilized - and the tentacles barely under any sort of control.

Needless to say, this explosion of raw untrained defensively offensive magic was a ... Messy affair. He was changed now, in more ways than he could count. He knew what a terrible creature in personality he had been before his capture; He supposed now he was just at risk of becoming one in body, should corruption strike.

Amadeus dragged himself to the nearest city, and after some recovery time - presented himself to the Order Mages, explaining of all that had happened. He would not return to his parents, or his estate. Instead, he would be trained as the Order saw fit - intent on making up for his former self, intent on being useful.

Now formally trained, Havelock searches the land for things that need doing - corrupted monsters hunted, or horrific crimes that need an intuitive eye. His learned nobles manners and a natural charm prove helpful.

When either significant stress, threat to his life, or concentration is applied Havelock's magic reacts sharply - spectral tendrils lashing into existence, far stronger then his own physical limitations. The tendrils can interact with the real work similar to traditional limbs - though with sharp speed and vicious strength. The natural inclination of these seems to lean to defensive violence...

In addition to the eldritch summoning of tendrils to grab and tear, Amadeus can also call up toothy vicious mouths - these hang in the air much like the summoned tendrils, and are much less versatile, but can bite, hold or tear at something - or someone - with otherworldly teeth.

Costs

  • - Magic use reduces the caster's mobility or reflexes: When the spectral appendages are summoned and in use, use of Havelock's body is very limited - barely able to move anything besides the tendrils, leaving him open to physical assualt.
