A generally pleasant individual, Kirino’s sweet-natured and earnest personality makes her a little sister figure to her friends. She keeps a well-behaved attitude most of the time, sometimes serving as the minder to her friends’ eccentrics but isn’t above sharing her optimism and dorkiness, though moderate when doing so. The youngling is very supportive and loving to her friends, showing great admiration for their hard-work and inspiring personalities. Hilariously, there are times where she can get a little too fired up on her interests, not to mention how poor her money management is, and has bouts of naivete though not so much as Masamune. Kirino mainly views herself as the most normal and plainest of the group. She is also modest about her abilities, believing she doesn’t have any outstanding traits like Onagawa's energy or Misato’s skills. Despite this, she remains optimistic and hardworking, rarely getting discouraged by her insecurities. In fact, her earnest and optimistic traits are what buoys the group’s spirit. She is also one of the suggestive members of the groups, encouraging them to take on challenges and try new things. While very friendly, the girl easily gets flustered, and tends to be nervous or have trouble when dealing with overwhelming things. However, as much as she downplays her insecurities, it affects her greatly, and is also what pushes her to becoming more than just a “normal” person. She is very focused on making herself shine to the point of costing herself — taking it for granted even– in order to please the masses, to which her friends do not respond very well to. She always seeks any kind of validation in order to not only make them like her, but it's also to make her (at least subconsciously) feel better about herself. That way, she won’t have to feel out of place and she’ll be more interesting and likable. Another disturbing flaw is how easily she gets emotionally manipulated– as shown when her substitute coach egged on her to change herself to appeal to her friends. This may be due to the fact that she’s a people pleaser of some sorts. With time, Kirino realizes how flawed her actions were upon seeing what her other friends felt about her, and has since stopped trying too hard to appeal to everyone. While still relatively working on her goal to “shine” to others, she has let go of seeking validation, slowly accepting who she is as an individual regardless of how normal she thought she was. Thanks to her friends, the girl gains more self-confidence in her abilities and learns to make use of her aspects to shine in her own, unique way. No matter how some people may dislike her plain self, being herself isn’t a bad thing and that she has her own way of shining. After her character arc and embracing herself, Kirino significantly becomes more assured and less fearful of what people think of her, while also being the moderate, earnest and hardworking girl she’s always been. .

BACKSTOrY

Kirino's father Shun works as a Japanese teacher overseas while her mother Wakana is a seismologist who is often at the labs, leaving Kirino to learn to take care of herself and manage the household. Throughout her school life, Kirino was always treated like a third wheel by some of past friends due to how "simple" and "bland" she was, which made her desire to break from being ordinary and make a difference, leading her to pursue gymnastics because of how emulating their performances were and wanted to shine like them.

PRESENT

Currently Kirino is attending her first year at Soshukan High School, where she first meets Shotaro and the gymnastics team after stumbling upon their amazing backflips. She is also currently living in the Ao High School Dormitory with the rest of them, who she sees as brother figures.

• Kirino’s fondness for money stemmed from when she always gave her parents her allowance to help them with their finances. Her want for money doesn’t extend to the point of greed however.
• Some mistake her as a secondary manager because of her frequent visits to the gym area.
• Kirino is terrible at playing instruments.
• Sleeping is one of her favorite things as a form of relaxation. Kirino’s healthy sleep schedule is envied by some of her friends hilariously enough.
• Because of how frequently she visits the dorm and delivers some goodies, she is nicknamed "Little Red Kiri".
