Doc and Francis met when the sheep dog was looking for someone to room with as his job alone would make him live paycheck by paycheck. Although they look like their personalities would clash they truly do get along well, even if Doc doesnt see Francis too much to to his work schedule. They always go out for a drink once he gets back home and they really have opened up to eachother over the past couple of months.
