A queen, her husband and her ruled a large port city. She dabbled in the art of potions and biology, but nobody took her work or her as a ruler seriously. This angered her greatly over the years, but she pushed it down and finds solace in raising her newborn son. One day a chapter of cult arrived in the city, and got along well with her husband, successfully manipulating him into providing them and their order with the city’s resources (despite her doubts, which were ignored as usual)
Renata then goes along w/ the cult, mostly for her own gain. She’s tired of being overlooked and disregarded by everyone, and wants to prove her abilities desperately. The cult are looking to forward their goal: revive a dead god by infusing humans with samples of diaphon + the gods blood, mutating them and creating a vessel. They know of her interest in dark sciences, but find it amateurish and tell her as such. Now reaching a breaking point, she knows what she has to do. She sends her son to live with her father, who lives on the cities far harbor to keep him out of danger, which she feels growing every day the cult occupies the city.
She breaks into the cults blood vaults, and takes rare, extremely potent samples to do her own work with it in secret. She’s confident she could make it work and prove them all wrong, and wants the power to herself so she can destroy the cult, her doubters (including her husband), and rule as she wishes without anyone to think little of her again.
She’s found out eventually, and she takes the formula she’s created hastily while pursued by guards, transforming into a monster and rampaging through the city, obliterating the cult members, their ships, and lastly her husband.
Afterwards she marches in a blindness to the village her son is in, where Emelia is there to fight her off. She flees after a close battle, returning to the city and turning back to a humanoid form, something no mutant the cult experimented on could do. She revels in this success, and gets to work rebuilding the city in her own vision, intending to come back for her son after the dust settles.
She comes to regret making the kingdom fear her, but can see no other way of keeping their respect after so many years of being nothing to them. She finds it a little sad that even tho she did technically liberate them from the cult and a corrupt king, they still live in distaste for her, but doesn’t help the situation by doubling down and committing to her new role of intimidation, even coming to quite like it. Despite this, she does run the city well, defending it from further cult ventures and from diaphon attacks,
