Nervous ✦ Impulsive ✦ Willful ✦ Hard-working ✦ Easily confused

The fact that Faiz doesn’t remember anything from their previous life makes them fairly suggestible and easily influenced. They don’t remember what kind of person they were before they died, and that worries them - so they’ve become a bit more cautious than they probably need to be. They’re very attuned to their work, spending most of their time at the forge working on various weapons. While they have deep focus when it comes to working, they’re easily frightened and offput by things in everyday life. One would think that they would be incredibly self-aware and would try to avoid risk as a result of their more reserved nature - but they couldn’t be more wrong. Faiz is actually really impulsive and more often than not does things they end up regretting later because they don’t think too hard about it.

They have surprisingly steady hands and find a great deal of peace in their work - after they came back to life, they’ve desired a purpose, and working with weapons and magical artifacts gives them one. The only thing they really remember from their past life is a great deal of knowledge about magical items, and they’ve chosen to let that guide them in their new life. This knowledge has led them to work with the members of Odin’s Eye, helping them to seal them away and preventing them from being used for evil… but not preventing them from Faiz gawking at them and trying to tinker with them whenever the opportunity arises. They’re a curious sort.

I, the undersigned, hereby agree to follow the charter of walpurgis and all rules therein:

Area of Expertise

Faiz’s undead nature combined with their flame body makes them very difficult to kill and ideal for handling magical artifacts. They don’t use magic themself, but do study it. Their bread and butter is really the use of their flame body, which gives them pyrokinetic capabilities. They usually contain it with metal armor, but it’s accessible through a window in their chest.

Abilities

Flame Body: Faiz’s entire body below their neck is made of pure fire. By removing parts of their armor, they’re able to use it as a weapon - though they typically keep it contained inside of them, since it’s more difficult to control without their armor keeping it settled. They usually use their fire to forge weapons or cook, though they can also infuse weapons they forge with it. Blades they forge using their body’s fire are almost like a natural extension of their body and they are much more adept at using them than they are at normal weapons.

Ifrit: By letting their fire consume their head or by removing their armor, Faiz can enter a berserker mode of sorts - the witch who brought them back to life was attempting to summon an Ifrit fire spirit, so they have similar abilities to one. They can grow or shrink in size depending on how big their flame is, along with gaining even stronger pyrokinetic abilities. However, Faiz also loses all sense in this form, so they see it as a last resort.

Undead Physiology: It’s hard to kill or even injure Faiz. They’re immune to fire, first of all - and their head is essentially a zombie. They have an extremely dulled sense of pain, and while they’re not particularly strong, they’re a powerful opponent in that they’ll keep getting back up again unless they’re entirely destroyed. Given how they usually avoid combat, though, this ability doesn’t come into play often.

Magical Knowledge: Weirdly, Faiz knows a lot about magical artifacts. They’re not sure where they got this knowledge from, they just know that they have it. They’re easily able to identify mysterious items as well as some of their potential effects. It’s not like they can necessarily stop people from using said items, though - and their knowledge isn't always 100% correct, since it's based on their (admittedly flimsy) memory. They're not infallible when it comes to identifying artifacts.

Limitations

Hydrophobic: Faiz doesn’t take well to water. They can’t swim and their body can be put out by enough of it. They can still eat and drink like a normal person, but more than a glass or two of water at a time could have serious effects on their body. If their fire is extinguished completely, they’re forced to roll around as a severed head until it regenerates. And that doesn’t really let them do much.

Berserker Limits: While Faiz does have access to an immensely powerful berserker mode, entering it makes them essentially lose their mind. The fire overtakes their rationality and turns them into a beast whose only goal is to burn everything around them. As such, limitations have been placed on this form by some of the scholars they lived with for the past few years - they cannot enter it fully, as it's been partially sealed with a sealing spell. They can invoke it slightly (there's a picture in their gallery of them like this), but can't go any further than that lest they burn the town down.

Too Hot To Handle: Because they’re made of fire, Faiz is hot to the touch - even in their armor. Though they yearn for intimacy and the touch of other people, they can’t really get it because a normal human touching them for long enough could burn themself. Faiz’s hands are cool enough for them to not have much trouble handling objects or h*lding a h*nd, but the rest of their body is difficult to touch - and their clumsy nature really doesn’t help things.

No Light, No Light:There is one thing that is capable of killing Faiz, though, and that's holy/light magic. They're especially weak to that, and being hit with a weak holy spell is enough to dispel most of their "body". Attacks with holy magic targeted directly at their head and neck are capable of killing them in one shot, as they are largely kept together using dark magic. Any holy magic will reverse the effects of that dark magic and leave them nothing but a burning head with no consciousness to speak of.

Familiar

N/A. Animals don’t really like Faiz because they can sense that they’re undead.

History

Early Life

Faiz doesn’t really know where they came from, or what their first life was like - all they really know is how they came to exist as they are right now. They were dead for a long time, their remains scattered across the old ruins of a village in Iran, which probably would have been Persia when they were still alive. A traveling witch who had just started learning the illegal dark arts set up shop there, hoping to craft an undead servant from the old bones scattered around the place. She was hoping to create an Ifrit who would serve her for eternity, and together they would rule the world! ...or something.

But things really didn’t work out as planned. In order to bring back a human being as a spirit, the witch had to assemble a full skeleton with the bones laying around the area. The problem was that the only bones on the skeleton she made that actually matched were the skull and neck - they belonged to Faiz. When she went to raise her Ifrit, the final result was a half-formed, senseless spirit that burnt down the rest of the ruins, scaring the witch away.

After things had calmed down somewhat, they’d tried to manifest a somewhat human form and figure out what the hell was going on. They didn’t remember anything about who they were or what was going on, but they did remember a lot about magical artifacts - perhaps they had been a scholar in their former life? Regardless, they remembered the location of a mages’ institute in the same country. With nowhere else to go, they trekked across the country to try and get there, leaning scorch marks in their wake.

When they made it to the location in their memories, they were surprised to find that it was still there - they’d remembered it being an extremely old building even when they remembered it, and it was still old, but there were still magic scholars studying there. It wasn’t often that someone came to them for help, especially a half-undead fire monster - but the Ifrit seemed friendly enough and confused, so the scholars decided to try and help them. They had Faiz take up temporary residence in a suit of armor they had laying about the place until they could build them a new, more fireproof one. Faiz spent most of their time here reading, a bit too nervous to communicate with the scholars that had saved them.

Moving to Walpurgis

Once Faiz had gotten a new body, they weren’t really sure where to go next. They still didn’t remember anything and weren’t sure where to go. One of the scholars had family in Walpurgis, though, and asked Faiz if they wanted to come along and see different places - perhaps it would jog their memory. Faiz had no idea what Walpurgis was, but they agreed because it’s not like they had much of anything to do.

The particular scholar they went with had connections with Odin’s Eye, and came to visit in order to share some research with its current members. Faiz really came to enjoy the town while they were there and forged (no pun intended) a special connection with Etta Thuban, the owner of the local blacksmithery, when she helped teach them to forge weapons. In the end, Faiz asked to stay there, saying that they could serve as a contact for the institute just in case. The scholar agreed and departed after helping Faiz get some living quarters. The length of their "business" trip was a few months, so Faiz was in town for a bit before they formally got a house there - so some residents might recognize them from when they were a tourist of sorts.

Present Day

Faiz has been in town by themself for about a year now - the scholar they came with has left to go back to the institute after staying for a few months to take care of some business. These days, Faiz works at the Binary Starforge with Thuban as their boss. Though their weaponry is way more standard than what she usually makes, they appreciate that they have a place to work now and something to do with themself. They’ve also become the tech guy of sorts for Odin’s Eye, analyzing magical items they retrieve and helping to craft equipment for them. They may be able to use magical swords, but they can only get you so far. Though with all their antics, they’re surprised that they haven’t started growing grey hairs…

They have a little house near Cypress Drive where they live - it’s close to the graveyard, so they feel somewhat drawn to it. They’re kind of surprised how easy securing a house around here is, but they’re not complaining about it. They’ve lived here for a few months now and are pretty new. You can tell if you’re on Faiz’s property because you’ll see a bunch of round, burnt footprints in the grass from them walking around.

Race Lore

Calling Faiz a dullahan is really only for convenience’s sake, as they’re not a true fae dullahan - just a headless (or in this case bodiless) form of undead. They’re a failed attempt to craft an artificial Ifrit, which is a demonic fire spirit. They’re typically made by assembling a matching skeleton and imbuing it with fire energy by covering it with spell slips and other witchcrafting items and setting the whole thing ablaze. Because only the skull and neck on the skeleton made for the attempt that formed Faiz ended up matching, only their head formed - the rest is all fire. They’re at a weird crossroads between zombie, dullahan, and Ifrit, not really sure where they stand - and the fact that they don’t remember anything doesn’t help any.

In life, it’s likely that they were a witch, or at least a scholar in the arcane arts. They can’t use any magic now that they’re dead, but they at least remember some stuff.
