Akito (秋仁)Reserved * clever * resourceful

Let your love be the kindness to make a homeless person believe that a soul needs something more than just four walls and a ceiling. – Munia Khan

The worst poverty isn’t about not having enough money to survive. Real poverty is when there is no one in the world who loves you. When there is no other human to make you feel like you matter. As if you aren’t worth the air you breathe. Poverty of love is the worst thing you can be deprived of. – Paige Dearth

About

Akito is reserved and tends toward being self reliant, even reclusive.  While she has learned to  cope pretty well with crowded places, she struggles with social situations where interaction is expected.

She is an MBTI INTJ.

She loves salmon… most fish really, pork cutlet katsudon, and peanut butter.  Her favorite color is indigo, and her favorite story generas hard sci-fi and cosmic horror.

Akito is a sub and enjoys size difference, dangerous places, role play, paws, food play, and strap ons.

Akito began identifying as a girl initially as a means of disarming people a bit in order to survive.  However, as she neared 12 she recognized in herself that she did not relate in any way to boys and that femininity (though at the time she wouldn't have used that word) felt like home, natural.  She has identified as feminine ever since.

She (and her brother) were naturally fairly androgynous in their appearance and voice.  She has never had any surgery and struggles occasionally with mild dysphoria over her genitals, but it rarely lasts long, something she has been very thankful for knowing now how badly other trans women suffer.

((spoilers: after moving in with Fuyuko she began HRT and continues on a low E dose - spring 2005))

Akito doesn't remember her parents, only the lady at the Nijo Market in Sapporo who every day left her a plate of some fish and rice and fruit.  She has no memory of how she came to be living on the street at the age of she guesses seven as she doesn't know when she was born.

Akito learned quickly how to survive on the street as a child in the madness of summer days and the bitterness of winter nights.  She became a skilled thief and pickpocket, and as a result rarely went hungry.  However, after she was beaten to within inches of her life by an enraged fish monger as an older teen she abandoned the market in full and 'moved' the several blocks to the campus of Hokkaido University.

She had already taught herself how to read, basic math, and a smattering of many sciences, and first aid by spending much of the winter months in the Sapporo Central Municipal Library, as much as possible.  Now, she used purloined (an later forged) student ID cards to access food as able, but more so time in classes.  She spent years attending whatever classes interested her for as long as she wanted.

After a couple years she managed to successfully forge her status as a student with dorm room and health care access, and maintained this for the next six years with some additional effort.

She was finally discovered in the spring of 2004 and only barely escaped the security, and later police, that sought her.

Following this she wanted a fresh start, and without any planning and having 'accumulated' over the previous five years nearly 400,000 yen, she took the train to Tokyo and Haneda Airport.

Once at the airport she made her way to Terminal 3 where the international travelers were and watched for new arrivals from the United States who looked similar to her.

After three failed attempts she was considering giving up for a bit so as to not risk any more attention than she might have already gained, she saw an unbelievable match that could have been her twin... like literally.  She followed him and positioned herself to pick his pocket for his passport and swap it for a random one she had already nabbed.  Right as she about to 'accidently' brush against him he stopped to look at his phone.  She stumbled trying to not now run hard into him and failed.  They both fell to the floor.

"I'm so sorry!!!" he said in perfect American English, then in Jappanese, "I'm sorry, I should have moved off to the side before doing that.  Are you okay?"

"Yes" she said in English blushing, "I'm okay, I should have been watching where I was going."  As they got up together she placed the random passport in his pocket and pocketed his.

She bowed "I'm sorry... have a good day." and hurried on her way, sensing him take a second look back her way as she turned.*

As much as she wanted disappear for a while after that to be safe, time was now against her.  She hurried over to the international ticket counter, and on the way looked at her new passport and nearly stopped in surprise: it was an American passport.  She hadn't expected that... to be honest she hadn't thought ahead about what she would do once she got on the plane... and then customs.... but this would simplify life!

She continued ahead and purchased a ticket to New York (JFK) with her web bank account card, thankful she was not yet too late for the day's flight.  She was terrified the man at the counter would ask for ID or check the name of on the card and notice it did not match the name she used from the passport... but he did not.  She thanked him and made her way to her next terror: security.

She was beginning to wonder what the hell she was doing... why did she think this was a good i... no, why didn't she think at all!?  But, she was practically committed now.  She got 'her' passport out along with her tickets and made it though security with no second look at all.  She'd had more trouble at the university's dorm than this she thought wryly.

She had half an hour until boarding, and the minutes felt like hours as see expected at any moment security to come looking for her.  But, none came.

The flight was uneventful, but her anxiety rocketed as she thought about customs more and how likely it was that the passport was reported stolen, especially as the passport she replaced the man's with was a Japanese passport, not an American one.

But, to her amazement she made it though with no trouble at all.

She discreetly discarded the passport as she threw away her snack at an airport fast food restaurant, and found her way to a bus station where she looked for some place that look quiet, out of the way, and interesting.

While there she saw a flyer for the Mount Washington Auto Road that captured her curiosity.  That looked like a neat place to visit.  When she looked at a map to find where it was she noticed a funny town nearby: Berlin, NH.  Ha, she thought, Berlin in America! :P  On nearly a whim she checked busses and found not only was there a bus headed there, she could just barely afford it with the last of her money.

And so it was that in mid May of 2004 Akito found herself arrived and homeless in Berlin, NH.

In short order she accumulated the resources and information she needed to get a job at a local grocery store, and from there rent a cheap studio appt off Pleasant St.

By the time she could get to the Auto Road it was just opening for the season.

Atop the summit she learned about the Mount Washington Observatory, and by the end of the day had fallen in love with the mountain.

She contacted the Observatory and learned they had an opening, not for an observer, but a summer intern.  She took it.  The pay was horrible and she lost her initial job because of only being available every other week, but she got a job working her off weeks in the Weather Discovery Center in North Conway.

With no warning, Fuyuko, one of the staff observers on her shift whom she’d just met earlier in the month… a towering dragon-cat something hybrid woman, offered to rent her a room in her place if she needed.  She had learned just days ago that Fuyuko had immigrated from Japan years before, and she seemed a decent person… she accepted!

Fuyuko and Akito have lived together now for over 15 years.  In that time they have evolved from roommates, to friends, to lovers, and just five years ago (20Oct16) to partners.

In the time that Akito and Fuyuko have lived together Akito gained legal status and earned full citizenship.  She has also (mostly) let her skills for discretely tactilely transferring possessions and wealth in public lie dormant.

* My thinking here is that this was indeed her identical twin brother, but that she'll likely never know that.

Her her mother was a young single mother who tried desperately to care for herself and her two boy, and managed to do okay for their first six years.  Then, she was injured at work and could no longer work.  It was an especially cold autumn, the power was cut from non payment, and in the cold she died keeping her children warm.

The children were discovered by the landlord emaciated and near death, they went into foster care with an abusive 'father' who not only abused them, but his whole family, who also then took out their anger on them.

After a savage beating of them both by their 'mom' that they ran away.  The were separated in the busyness of Sapporo.  Akito tried and tried to find her brother and was in the market when she was accidently hit from behind by a boy on a bike.  She was knocked out and bleeding badly from a cut on her head and not easily visible.  The boy, terrified that she was dead, fled.

When she awakened she was tucked behind fruit stall and wrapped in a blanket with a plate of rice and fish next to her.  She had no memory of who she was or how she got there.

She took the name the lady used for her when she saw her place food for her.  She has no family name.

FWIW, her and her brother were born 17Dec1979 and named Takeo and Takumi (warrior and artisan) respectively.
