Alex Ryder is my first DR OC, and probably one of my favorites if not my favorite. He's honestly a good boy, and I love him to bits. Many people in the RP I was in called him as the protag, so I tend to think of him as such.

TL;DR: I love my first protag boy with my heart and soul.

About

Alex Ryder is the SHSL Horserider. He originally attended Camp Lilac, a camp founded by Hope's Peak Academy to help students master their talents. However, the camp wasn't all that it seemed. Instead, it turned out to be a killing game, which Alex managed to escape out of. While he's scarred by the experience, he still has hope in his heart and keeps moving forward. While he's originally a 5th division member, he founds the 15th division, dedicated to helping rehabilitate the victims of killing games.

Takumi Alex met Takumi at Camp Lilac. He loved him from the start, and they always found each other despite all the memory washes. They made the Seahorse Group, which swore to protect everyone. However, that didn’t happen. Takumi was the first death of the Killing Game. And it hurt him. He felt like a failure, failing to protect the person he cared so much about. But, he strives every day to uphold the Seahorse Promise. And he still loves him. No matter what.

Yosuke Yosuke is Takumi’s brother, so Alex feels super protective of him. He’s guilt-ridden with the death of Takumi, so he wants to be there for Yosuke, to the best of his ability. He tries to take care of him, and while he isn’t perfect, they have a close relationship.

Little Red Riding Hood Red was there for Alex when no one else was. They had a brother-sister relationship (at least according to him), and when he was down, she was there to make him smile. They solved crimes together and overall had a good bickering relationship. However, she died as well in the Killing Game, which wasn’t ideal. Needless to say, he misses her a lot.

Backstory

Alex Ryder wasn't originally a Ryder. In fact, he was an orphan. He doesn't remember who his parents were, nor what his last name was, and his memories of the orphanage are few and fleeting. However, the memories he did remember weren’t very pleasant. They were ones of neglect, of being left in the dark, trying to save people, protect people, yet failing. Regardless, he knows it was bad enough that he left. First for a couple of times, just to vist. Then, finally for good. His adoptive mom and dad were very supportive of him, nurturing him, even starting his passion for riding horses. Then, when they had Emma and Lila, he loved them dearly. They were like sisters to him, nay, they were sisters to him. He was the protective brother of the family, his loving, kind, supportive family. The Ryder Family. And he loved them back. With all his heart. And on one fateful day, Alex received a letter from Hope’s Peaks Academy, an acceptance letter for Camp Lilac, a camp designed to help Ultimates improve their talents. He went, and that’s when things took a turn for the worse.
Originally, the camp was supposed to be salvage. The best people in humanity, surviving and working on a cure to encompass the despair disease. The hope for the future. During this time, he built a lot of relationships, mainly one with Takumi, but then things took a turn for the worse. The staff grew selfish and reckless. They started to perform tests on the students. Tough ones. Torturing ones. During these times, he was a leader among the students. He rose up and protested against them. But unfortunately, this meant he got the worse of the treatment. Subjected to nothing but darkness and emptiness. His mind-melded by wires and taps. His body, poked and prodded by syringes. Then, the staff came up with their worst idea. They changed one of their care-taking robots into a killer one, hellbent on hosting a killing game. The students had all their memories wiped, and they were pitted against each other, and with sick motives, encouraged to kill each other.

However, even in this hard time, Alex still managed to find love. Takumi. They paired together and swore to protect everyone around it. They called it the Seahorse Group, and they made a promise to always be there to protect the people around them. Alex always liked Takumi, and their relationship was a good one. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. Takumi was killed, and it broke Alex's heart. But, he kept going and swore to uphold the cherished Seahorse promise. He relied on his friends, Red and Lucas, to get him through this time. They figured out the murders, and while the situation wasn’t good, they were getting by, although at the expense of Alex’s confidence. But eventually, they were killed off too. The death of them pained him immensely. But, with help from Kaida, Ton, and Keihaku, they escape from Camp Lilac.

Alex then finds Takumi’s brother, Yosuke, and delivers the news about Takumi. He feels extremely guilty about his death, to the point where he starts to break down in front of him. They share a tender moment, and Alex swears to be there for him the best he can. After being the best man at Ton and Kaida’s wedding, he looked around to find his family, only to find out that none of them are alive anymore. He’d lost everyone, his family, the love of his life, his friends, all gone. It was demoralizing, especially since it seemed like everyone around him was happy. It was a truly dark place.

But with that darkness was a light of hope. With grief, he found inspiration. He never wanted anyone to go through something like this again, or at least go through it alone. So, he eventually found the Future Foundation, applied, and after a lot of anticipation, he’s accepted. At first, he was a simple 5th division member, tasked with rescuing people from killing games. But, he found himself concerned with the people he was saving. How were they holding up? Were they okay? He reached out to them and tried to help them the best he could. But, he couldn’t do it alone. So, he proposed a new division. The 15th division. One dedicated to helping rehabilitate victims of killing games, and help them enjoy life. The headmaster liked the idea so much that it became a reality, with Alex Ryder as the head of it.  He, along with many others helped numerous people to cope with what they went through and move on. It helped them, which in turn, helped him.

“Was it hard? Yes. Was it time-consuming? Yes. But, was it worth it? Absolutely.”
