Alex Ryder (Family Life)

After a while, Alex was able to get over the trauma he faced with the killing game. While things weren’t the same and he changed a bit, being more cautious and reserved, he was still doing what he loved, helping people. It was through this where he found Rei Watanabi, a guy who had been through a killing game for criminals and had lost the love of his life, just like him. They helped each other, building each other up and giving each other support while they can. Things were good. Till that unfortunate day, that so unfortunate day.

 Alex came home to see Rei, sitting on the ground. The TV was on, and it displayed something. A girl, her hair a wine red, getting pulled by the neck. Rei was twitching, his hands curling up into fists. “Rei?” Alex asked, a little nervous. Next thing he knew, Rei was pinning him to the wall and punched him. The shock hit him like a pile of bricks. He didn’t expect to be attacked like this, certainly not by his friend. But here Rei was, his eyes a hot pink of despair. And Rei wasn’t done. No, if it weren’t for his helmet, Alex would’ve been knocked out. Luckily, Alex saw the Rei he knew run away, tears trailing behind him. 

Some months later, Alex went on a mission to rescue victims of a killing game disguised as a masquerade ball. He goes inside the building to see if there were any others trapped inside, when he sees Rei, bleeding out from a fatal gun wound. The friend, who had helped Alex in the aftermath of the darkest times in his life, was dying, and he could do nothing to save him. Rei died in the arms of a grief-ridden Alex. 

He had taken it upon himself to find Rei’s family. It’s what Rei would’ve wanted, so that’s what Alex did. But, this wasn’t easy. Once he found them, he had to deliver the news. And it wasn’t taken well. Most of the family hated him, believing he was the one to blame for Rei’s death. It didn’t help that it brought back his guilt, not only for Rei but for everyone he had lost during his time in Camp Lilac. Life was tough, especially with his past coming back to haunt him. 

But, Alex had hope on his side. Especially with Kei there, the little triumphs between them reminding him of what he was working for. With his kindness and persistence, the rest of the family eventually warmed up to him, leading him to have a while unconventional, happy family again. He became a better person because of it, and a much happier one. Now, he’s a hopeful fusion of his pre and post killing game self. This family changed him, ultimately for the better.
