About
Rise Pleiades-- His name is pronounced Ree-sey, but it's fine, everyone gets it wrong. He idolized the great General Sephiroth from the first time he laid eyes upon him. Rise joined SOLDIER the first chance he got--at sixteen, lying about his age, naturally.
He rose through the ranks... slowly. Frustrated by his own lack of progress, Rise vowed not to cut his hair until he could stand alongside Sephiroth as equals. Naturally, this would never happen.
After the Nibelheim incident, Rise was distraught, left feeling that his own purpose for living had been taken from him. Despite having risen to become a SOLDIER first class, he felt that, without Sephiroth to reach for, there was nothing left in the world for him. He went missing in action during a mission, and was quickly presumed dead, despite a body never being found.
After faking his death, Rise made his way on foot towards Nibelheim, to hunt for any shred of evidence of the General. The coverup was fantastic; there was nothing to indicate that Sephiroth had even stepped foot inside the village, let alone decimated it. Disheartened, Rise turned back, continuing to travel across the continent, wandering wherever his legs took him.
By the time he returned to Midgar, years had passed; the plate over Sector 7 had fallen, and Sephiroth had reemerged. Rise's travels had changed him, and he stayed away from Sephiroth, Shinra, and Avalanche alike, sticking to the shadows and backstreets, striving to never draw too much attention to himself.
But the best laid plans of mice and men rarely go as intended, and Rise was one day approached by a pair of Turks who offered him a job, one he couldn't pass up...

Only cuts his bangs. He won't cut the rest of his hair until he has a chance to stand at Sephiroth's side, as his equal... Yes, even after Meteorfall. Rise would (probably) turn on any allies he had to join Sephiroth, if given the option.
Barely scraped by to get into SOLDIER, was known all around as a weakling until he resolved to become Sephiroth's equal. He spent many a late night training after that.
Used to be something akin to friends with Cloud; they were roughly the same age, of course. Rise avoids him at all costs now that he's the "hero of the planet" and all.
Cuda is the only kid he'll put up with. He's not afraid to put a scary look on his face and chase off some punks if need be.
Related: He thinks he has a bond with Cuda, and in fact he does, but not for the reason he thinks. Rise likes to think that, as a remnant, Cuda carries some part of Sephiroth and his memories and soul within him, and that the friendship of equals he's always been chasing has finally been obtained. Unfortunately, Cuda has none of Sephiroth's soul or memories. Tough luck.
