Neo-Noir

The de facto "main" superhero in the city of Fort North.  As in, she's the only superhero in Fort North.  She was born with her powers and came into them gradually as she grew up.  She can manipulate the shadows of herself and others, causing them to become physical, and can even meld into the shadows as a getaway tactic.  Her real name is Zara Hammoud, and she's torn between her various personas--the flashy superhero Neo-Noir, her anonymous online DJing hobby, and her daily life, just trying to make it as a trans girl karate instructor in a big city.  It's a lot to juggle!!

Neo-Noir is actually the second shadowy-powered hero to bear the name "Noir," hence the "Neo" bit.  The original Noir was something of Zara's mentor, from even before Zara realized she was queer.  She just saw a pretty lady with shadowy powers that seemed "scary," just like her, and tried to encounter her and perhaps befriend her.  This was probably too much of an awkward stalker-type approach, but...it worked out in the end, and Noir helped Zara discover herself.

Taking on the mantle of an older hero is a daunting task.  Neo-Noir (or just "Noir," especially to younger folks that don't know the older hero) has to sell the public on her existence as a legacy superhero, during a time after a superpowered disaster rocked the city, leading the common man to distrust hero and villain alike.  Maybe it's time Neo-Noir herself trained a protege?  Having backup in a fight is a great idea, but being a mentor is another stressful job on top of all the rest...!
