The Tragic Romantic

Biography:

As the god of death, things were perfect for Logan Nightingale. Their counterpart, Emilia, Life herself, would create, and they would destroy when enough time had passed. The two's work would ebb and flow for all of eternity, and their mutual respect for each other as well as curiousity for how the world would continue on would end up an eternal romance. Logan and Emilia loved each other, and Death knew that they would do anything to make their Life happy. Emilia was everything to them, and with a ring, the two sealed their bond.

Unbeknownst to Logan, their universe was not the only one. Out there, there was another Death, one who also would do anything for his dearest Life. When that universe was set to expire, the other Death took his Life and jumped to another universe- Logan and Emilia's universe. Naturally, there could not be two Lifes or two Deaths, so the foreigners took to disposing of their other selves.

Logan didn't find out about this threat until they found their Emilia laying on the ground. Her body was lifeless, and though it was battered and bruised from battle, she truly was a beautiful corpse. As Logan held her, their distraction led to the other Death having the perfect opening to attack the mourning god. If Logan was even a second later to react, they would have died that day. They summoned invisible limbs to block the other's sword, laying their Emilia down before battling to survive. The battle was a blur, and both were hurt by the altercation. The other Death gained a scar on his face from Logan's sword, but Logan had it worse. The other Death, thinking that Logan had died from his last attack, decided to steal Logan's name and go on with his Life and take control of this universe.

Nightingale had barely survived the encounter. In an attempt to heal themself, they had to split their very soul in two. Luckily, though, that also meant that their powers over death were undetectable to their counterpart, as they now existed in two bodies. After the two halves of Nightingale buried their love, they quietly parted ways. One remained Nightingale, taking Emilia's earrings as a final memento. They joined the other Death, Logan Stevens's, new reaper coalition under the guise of a long-living fae. Keep your enemies closer, after all.

After that time, they aren't sure where their other half went. Nightingale would go almost 2000 years before they ever found out what happened to them. For now, though, all that mattered was that they were alive. With their continued existence, there was a slim possibility that Nightingale would be able to regain their position, and only then would Emilia's death be avenged.

God of Death

Before their soul was split, Nightingale had mastery over weapons and potions alike, able to create and adapt whatever they needed to in order to do what they needed. They could summon invisible limbs to assist them in battle. Additionally, they could grow a pair of angelic black wings and quickly heal from every injury.

Even after their soul is split and they have to go in hiding, Nightingale still holds power as the god of death. They can grow a black angelic wing on their right shoulder if they wish to. They also heal quickly from any injury, so they are pointedly very difficult to kill. Additionally, Nightingale is able to summon invisible limbs in order to aid them in reaping souls as well as more mundane tasks. Finally, as a bringer of death, Nightingale is able to quickly adapt to any weapon of destruction that they are given. This is useful, as they are not always guaranteed to have their scythe around.

Draw With:

Emilia (Deceased): Before Emilia's demise, she and Nightingale were the closest of lovers. Nightingale would always play the lyre for her, and she would gather butterflies around the two of them. It was a magical romance, and they would do anything for each other. After Emilia's death and Nightingale's soul being split, Nightingale and Raven put Emilia's body to rest. Nightingale takes her monarch butterfly earrings as a final memento of their lover. After her death, all of Nightingale's melodies are sadder than before, a testament to the love they lost. Nightingale swears that they will get revenge for this unjust end.

Raven (Double): Logan Nightingale and Raven are two halves of one being. After their soul and body were split, both of them only retain one of the black wings that they once had. Raven and Nightingale lay Emilia's body to rest together before parting ways for the next 2000 years. There is nothing but sorrow between these two at this stage.

Logan Stevens (Usurper):  Bitter enemies to the end, Nightingale and Stevens both hate the continued existence of the other. Nightingale hates that their wife is gone and their existence is fragmented. Stevens can't stand that he doesn't have full control over death. That being said, Stevens is happy that he's able to find people to assist in his new reaper coalition. The coalition is meant to offset this lack of control, and the kind fae that Stevens finds is extremely willing to help. Stevens is Nightingale's boss in the reaper coalition, but they are closer to being partners in crime. Stevens enjoys listening to Nightingale play the lyre, even if he doesn't realize that he's the reason their melody is so sad all the time. Nightingale can't stand that Stevens doesn't understand their song, but they know that if they tell him why, their plan of avenging Emilia's demise will fall short.

Art Ideas:

-With butterflies, specifically purple ones or monarchs (Monarch butterflies are associated with their deceased wife Emilia, so they'd be somber around them)

-Trying out a new weapon for reaping souls (They never use swords, though)

-Laying flowers at Emilia's grave

-Sitting alone in the woods and contemplating their continued existence

-Summoning invisible limbs for any reason

-Looking down at the monarch butterfly earrings they got from Emilia

-Saying goodbye to Raven

-Any kind of duality art with Raven

-Anything about them seeking vengeance against Logan Stevens

-Tarot art. They're Death (Geez I wonder why)

-Light gore. It's okay, they'll get better.
